This game, a sequel to the hit game Final Fantasy VII, takes places three years after the events from the first game. It also seems to take place "after" Advent Children, but as I haven't seen that, I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference in time between then and now. You play as Vincent Valentine, of course, in this Action/Shooter game based along the Final Fantasy VII world. It's been three years since the event now known as Meteorfall happened and the people are slowly banding together to help bring the world back to order. Yada-yada, I can't bore you guys with this stuff right now, as there are two other things that explain this: the Instruction Manual and the opening videos. Onto the good stuff. As I mentioned, this is an Action/Shooter game, unlike the traditional RPG games that Final Fantasy games have been known to be. You take control of Vincent and use his gun like you would in any other First/Third Person Shooter. You are free to explore "most" of the surroundings while fulfilling certain objectives within the chapter scenarios. Items are found on the ground in briefcases, backpacks, bullet stacks or a card, which you'll understand as you play. After you go through the numerous events in a scenario, the scene will conclude and your Stage Results will be displayed, where things such as "Mako Collected", "Magic Used", "Time Expired" and other statistics will be displayed and ranked with D, C, B, A or S rank, D being the lowest and S being the highest, generally... After those are tallied, it'll show you your objective results and, depending on how well you did with those, you will be granted a certain amount of gil. The screen after that is your Experience earned. The levelling system in place for Vincent in this game is quite different from what you'd expect with a Final Fantasy. Levelling is entirely optional. You could probably go through the entire game as Level 1. They give you a choice to use the experience points to level, or to exchange the experience points for gil. It would be adding a zero onto your experience point figure, meaning 1035 experience points would net you 10350 gil. After that comes the shop screen, a divider between scenarios so you can restock and modify your stuff with the gil you just acquired. You can buy bullets for your weapons, additional weapons (no clue why you'd need to do it other than to get the other sides to some of the guns), materia and addons as well as the basic items like Potions, Ethers, and the like. You can sell back the same things that you buy, although some things may not actually sell for a single gil, depending on if you acquired it from the story (You'll know later on, probably) or if you have it equipped. And then you have the modification choice, which is basically where Vincent's real power comes in. With this, you can upgrade the weapons and addons that Vincent uses to more powerful versions. They don't give you complete control on upgrading the weapons, but they give you a pretty sweet choice every now and then. You'd go from the regular weapon -> Weapon II -> P Weapon / S Weapon / M Weapon and then on, I'd guess. I haven't actually gotten that far with it, as it gets rather expensive the further it goes. Each upgrade would come with some improvements, such as an increase in power, speed, weight, distance shooting, and one other stat that I don't remember at the moment, as well as upgrades every now and then to the weapon's magazine capacity. The voice acting uses the same characters from Advent Children, I believe. Of course, the lip synching of the characters is still stuck through how the Japanese would see it, but that's not something to lose sleep over. Don't forget, this game revolves around Vincent Valentine, so I wouldn't expect seeing many of the other Final Fantasy VII characters too often. Oh yes, as a bonus, in one of the later scenarios, you will control Cait Sith in a sneak mission, avoiding the guards and passing by them to get further. That's my favorite part so far (Cait Power!!). Ah well, I've probably squabbled on enough about the game, I just hope I said enough of the things that were required to get some people interested in it, as it is very fun. *It'd be even more fun if the large-screen TV didn't turn itself off and back on every now and then, especially during boss battles and story scenes T_T* |

I have yet to play the game but I've heard that the game got some really bad reviews because of the fact that Square Enix choose not to make the game the traditional RPG. But I won't say anything yet about the game due to the fact that I have not played it yet. But there is one question I have to pose: How does Drige of Cerberus fare to FFVII storyline wise? |

Well, you know that Final Fantasy VII was ended with the PSX game, and they brought forth a bit of a new story with Advent Children. This takes place 2 years after Advent Children, revolving around Vincent Valentine, Reeve Tuesti and their battle against an organization known as Deepground. More is revealed upon playing, and I don't wish to spoil more about it right now. |

Yea, the reviews are pretty bad. I still can't believe that! The game should deserve a 7.5, at least. I mean, the game's not bad at all. I got really hooked the first day I got it. And it's still a lot of fun because of the unlockables and the shooting are fun.

I've actually had the chance to play it recently and although it is a great game, it's not really Square Enix style since most of their games are more Adventure/RPG style not first/third person shooter. It's main strong point to me anyway, is the in depth storyline behind Vincent Valentine. |

This game could have been so much better. It's okish overall but not brilliant, Nightmare is right, the strong point is the backstory behind Vincent Valentine and also the continuing expansion of the Final Fantasy VII storyline, I think they should drop the game from here and not let it carry on. Square-Enix is killing the games reputation off in my opinion... |

It really doesn't matter to me whether they continue the main game's story or not, as long as the basic game is fun for what it is. That is why I enjoy playing Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. It offers a take on one of the shadiest playable characters of Final Fantasy VII, opening up the past and the present in a different gamestyle (FPS/TPS). Although I am not much for this type of game, it is still fun to level up the weapons and take down the enemies using both magic, gunplay and basic combat. That and the sub-missions are fun to try and complete within the main mission objective. |

I was somewhat disappointed in the actual ending of the game. Personally the game would have been more fun if you could have the choice to choose which character to use. But in the last few missions it did kick ass to play as CHAOS and kick the shit out of OMEGA/Weiss/Hojo. |

I really thought this would've been better off a book. The gameplay wasn't all that good to me, got really repetitive at times. Plus some times I really did fall asleep at parts of the cutscenes since some parts didn't live up to the FF franchise. |

Personally the game was too short. I mean I beat the game on Hard my first time in just 4 days. |
