The Ghost of the Wasteland
|
(Teaser Post. Rest of the fic is a little while away yet) As the wind chipped away at the glass around him, the ninja pushed on even harder. This was his only shot. Turning his wrist as far as it would go, his Ride screamed at him, the beautiful, smoothless white underneath his wheels shattering under the pressure. Setting his eyes on the Ride in front of him, the ninja followed as close behind as he dared. The one in front… wasn’t human. That was clear to see. It Drifted under, and over chunks of falling marble, leaving no room for errors at all. And yet came away without a scratch. They had left the clouds far behind them, the stars just barely visible above them. The other Ride pulled its wheels off the white marble, flipping around in midair, slamming through a chunk, before landing perfectly, no damage done what-so-ever. Drifting under another chunk, the other Ride accelerated, more of the perfect substance under their wheels turning to nothing but dust. Then something went wrong. The other Ride exploded in a flash of emerald green. The ninja panicked, swerving hard, as his Ride crumbled away. He kept going though, flying through the air, up the side of the Spire. And above… that pulsing crimson… the Lattice. The AboveGround. So close… He reached out a hand… Kazu’s eyes snapped open, staring up at the shadow covered ceiling of his room. By the feel of it, it was well past midnight, probably early morning. He sat up slowly, yawning loudly as he rubbed the back of his neck. Swinging his legs around, Kazu stood up, slowly and shaking padding past the window he had over Empyrean. Looking out, Kazu didn’t flinch as a peal of lightning shook the Realm, illuminating everything. It was a beautiful Village, really. High above the ground, no threat to those who did not wish it to be a threat. Its Spire reached higher than most, but then, Empyrean/was an island floating in the sky. They had a little extra on those villages that sat on ground level. Kazu looked up, eyes trailing the Spire high into the sky… He was sure he could see the Lattice just now. That massive, crimson cage that separated the ninjas from the AboveGround. Why it was there… he didn’t know. Kazu groaned, shutting his eyes for a second. Slowly opening them again, he took a breath and tried not to flinch. Something felt…. Strange. Like he was standing on the edge of something. Kazu looked to his left, then to his right, eyes settling on a strange familiar ninja. Then, he looked down and noticed the pulsing crimson… Kazu snarled, his gaze flicking back to Empyrean. Rubbing his forehead, he turned to walk over to his desk. The Witching Hour… He’d been there enough to know the vision. All of them. But it had only been since he had found that object that they had been plaguing him away from PizzaWitch… Gazing over to his clothes stand, Kazu examined his Gear. They were just simple, white clothes. Nothing exactly fancy… Well, not fancy to the eye. But what they did. His jacket was simple. Mostly white, with black padding to indicate the armour underneath. It allowed him to survive much more on a Ride that really was possible… Hushed as the Wood Kazu blinked a few times. He had been sure he had just heard someone whisper something… Shaking his head, he looked up at his hat. Well, it was more like a mask now. It had a collar, which he would put on. It connected to the top of his jacket, before it spread out into a mask. It was white, again, with black lenses for eyes. It covered his ears as well, and connected into his ride to give him a holographic heads up display on remaining distance, possible threats, and remaining stats of his Ride. Stalwart as the Mount There it was again. Kazu frowned. Either he was going crazy (which there was a very good chance of, but that was beside the point) or someone was here… or at least inside his head. He had no idea which one sounded more crazy. That someone had snuck into his house, or snuck into his head Shaking his head again, Kazu looked down at his gloves with a smile. They were black, with a single symbol where the back of his hand would be. A red flame. His gloves were impressive in their ability as well. They gave him a deft hand with crafting pizzas, and out on Rides, they provided the perfect grip, meaning his Drifts were always spot on… Fierce as the Flame Now that was just getting annoying. Kazu growled, moving to sit at his desk. Lifting up his Ride keys, he gently shook them, listening to the gently ringing of his keychain. It was nothing to really look at, just a small, white and silver pin. But it gave him confidence, and was calming to look at… Swift as the Wind Aaaaand now he was just going to ignore it. Might as well just roll with it. … oh wow he really was going crazy. Shaking his head, Kazu sighed, dropping his keys. Reaching over to a small drawer, he slowly opened it, making sure not to spring the trap inside it. After all, he didn’t want to destroy the item inside… Gently reaching inside, he retrieved the small and precious artefact, found in the middle of the Wasteland… Dark as the RNG Slowly uncurling his hand, Kazu looked down at the black pin, inlaid with a single, white skull. It wasn’t very big, in fact, he had been surprised to find it at all… but something had drawn him to that exact spot in the Wasteland. Eleven only knows why. Placing it down on the desk, he flipped it over, reading the markings on the back… “I Participate in this Game…” Bright as the Flash |
