"You'll only get one shot at this."
"I know."
"You mess up, you're dead."
"Not just me."

On the eleventh day of battle

Narrowly avoiding a blast of pure energy, he leaped around to the side, quickly taking cover behind a rock. Adjusting his gloves, the man glanced out from behind the rock, eyes setteling on the towering demon, it's eyes ablaze with shadowy flames.

The Flash's great power doth fall.

"You'll need a lot to defeat this thing."
"Again, I know."
"All it'll take is one wrong step, and BOOM! You're dead!"
"I don't need you to tell me that! I'm not going to die, I've got too much to lose!"
"... then you need to keep her in your head while you fight."

Power - into Eight Weapons lost.

Bringing his Reaper's Sword up, he dug his heels in, the massive blast simply parting as it connected with the other worldly steel. The ground around him turned to dust, energies from another world eating away at the very fabric of reality. His cobalt blue jacket flowed around him, stained with the blood of his past. The demon rose up; laughing, as it gazed into the warriors soul.

"AND YOU CALL YOURSELF A 'HERO?' YOUR SOUL IS DARKER THAN MINE!"

"I never did call myself a hero. That is simply a title, given to me by those who believe me to be a protector."

"YOU WILL BURN HERE, FOR YOUR SINS, BOY."

"No. Not today." He looked up, milky white eyes gazing out onto this Field, marked with signs of battle - Eleven days of combat. "I may be destined for oblivion, but I shall not let her die along with me."

"SUCH NOBILITY. EVEN IN THE FACE OF DEATH."

Tick Tock.

”So... tell me.”
“Huh?”
“What’s it like to be a Demon?”

Returns to nothing,

Infinite chants, to shield his mind against corruption.

Memories to r҉èm̢ind̀ him of what he stands to lose
Charms to guard against corruption

this world of shadowless ones.

"Why do you fight, if you know you're just going to end up dead?"
"Why not?"
"It's all useless in the end."
"Life is useless in the end. Doesn't stop us from living."
"But what's the point?"
"I do what I do because I can. There is no greater reason than that."

Never to return, the brilliant one

A bloody claw raked through flesh and b͠o͝ne҉
A cry of pain, his senses exploding around him
01010100011010000110010100100000010001010110111001100100
Steeling his soul for the deed that must be done.

His end comes.

”So... what have you got planned?”
“Not much, why?”
“Want to walk down the beach with me? It’s lovely late at night.”
“... sure, why not.”

Until on the eleventh hour,

The demon let loose a roar, knocking the shinobi to the ground before descending on him; a storm of fangs and claws, tearing chunks out of the ground, out of reality itself with it’s power. The shinobi snarled, flipping backwards, blinking out of existence for a mere second.
01010010011001010110000101101100011010010111010001111001

Crashing back through the void, he hit the ground hard, the dirt beneath his hands fading back to the Code it came from. There was a whistling sound, as he dived off to the side, the ground where he was standing now vaporized. “Typical...” Standing up and patting his clothes down, his gaze returned to the demon, eleven tails waving in the air behind it.

the eleventh minute,
”Do you really need to do this?”
“Yeah. It’s really important.”
“Promise you’ll come back then...”
“Of course. I owe everyone too much to leave them.”
“I meant... promise you’ll come back to me.”

Flashes of emotion. Shards of memories. These were all that he felt in the nothingness.
”Yeah, I’ve got something you could use.” The young man nodded, brown hair sitting around his eyes. He leaned over his desk, opening a box. “It’s called a spell card. The Manly Barr-“
A horrible, screeching sound echoed around, striking right into his brain. He twisted and spun in the darkness, limbs like jelly, as he felt his brain melt away.
”Why do you wanna learn to move like me?” The white hair girl tilted her head, two triangular ears on the top of her head twitching. “I suppose I can tea-“
The image crashing into oblivion, dragging away part of the man’s soul, as he saw his life ripped from his mind. Now, two people from his past were gone, forgotten forever.
”First, you put a large pool of chakra into your arm,” A tall man held his right arm out, point to a few spots on his, his robe revealing his status as a Kage. “Then, you just need t-“
His head felt like it split in two, his very essence being drained from his soul.
”I can teach you a few techniques with that katana of yours. It might make the difference between dying horribly, and just losing a limb...” An old man nodded slowly, his eyes showing that he lived far longer than his body revealed. “Don’t give me that look, in this kind of fi-“
The pain was gone now. Instead there was just... a numbness. Slowly spreading over his entire being. His body convulsed slightly as it’s energy slipped away, slipped into the void that engulfed him.
“Hmm, so you’re fighting that huh?” The blue-hatted man lazily flicked through a book, humming to himself. “Yeah, I got a few things fo-“
He barely noticed this one slipping through his grasp; the darkness had seeped into every part of his mind, of his soul. He couldn’t even remember who he was.

”Why do you have to go? You could die!” A young, brown haired girl was looking up at him with tear filled eyes, her voice filled with emotion. “I don’t want you to leave me... please, stay he-“
This one jerked him back to reality, as his mind began to separate from his body. But, it didn’t awaken him because of that.
It was her eyes. He remembered them.
He could see them looking up at him, happiness shining behind them. He could see them half shut, as she drifted off to sleep in his arms. He could see them wide open, surprise easy to see, as he leaned down to kiss her.
There was a laugh. A single, piercing laugh.
”That was a lovely walk... thank you.” She turned to smile, hands behind her back. “Do you... want to go grab something to eat? I’m starving.”
Hands on his head, he screamed into oblivion, her words and his heart beating the only sounds. The only sounds besides that laugh.
”Don’t die... please...”
A new image. She was looking right at him, hands held out, tears flowing freely down her face.
”You promise you’d come back to me.... You promised... Kazunari.”
He arched his back in pain, lightning shooting through his mind, hands on his head.
”You’re not going to let your Kage down, are you?”
A powerful face started at him, silvery-gray eyes locked onto him.
”Hey, you promised to help me test some new spells when you won!”
A grin, brown hair and a small beard adorning his face.

The Eleven Tailed Fox couldn’t help but laugh as it watched the body of it’s newest assailant break down into Code, cast forever into oblivion. While it’s true, it may be what the ninja call a ‘Phase’, but it was by no means normal.
In the fields, if you died you would simply be returned to your world and Corrupted. Against the fox... death was death. There was no escape. No easy way out. Trapped for infinity in the void between Fields.
The Fox turned away, padding slowly back towards the Black Altar, to rest until the next warrior thought he or she was powerful enough.
The ground started to bubble, but the Fox didn’t notice. Slowly, the dark ground started to twist and morph, rising up in a single spike.
Which started to turn into a hand, reaching skyward. Golden liquid dripped from it, revealing pale flesh underneath, as it continued to rise.
Then, with gasping breaths, a head pushed free from the golden oil, and another hand, slowly dragging a body free. The person collapsed, gasping for air, skin as white as if it had never seen daylight, not hair on his skin, no clothes, nothing...

Except an iron bangle around his arm, and a crimson flower stuck to his chest.

By now, the Fox had turned back. And it wasn’t happy. It snarled and roared, glaring at the small, insignificant creature infront of it. ”YOU CANNOT SIMPLY DIE, CAN YOU?”
Pushing himself up, the man started laughing. “Of... course not. I’ve got... too much to lose.” One of his hands moved to the band around his arm, and a smile crept across his ghostly pale skin. Pushing his body up, the golden liquid, congealing and moving towards him. It slid across his skin, interweaving with other patches of liquid, slowly changing...
First into clothes. Wooden sandals, gray trousers, and a cobalt blue coat, a single crescent moon on the back. Then, finally, a blood red headband around his eyes. The rest of the liquid crawled up to the top of his head, and trailed down behind him, slowly turning into black hair that sat at his waist. With a flash of green, a katana formed in his right hand as he used his left hand to slide the headband up.
”THAT GUARDIAN IS THE ONLY REASON YOU’RE ALIVE. AND NOW IT’S GONE. YOU’VE USED IT.” The Fox let out a hideous twisted laugh. ”NOW YOU ARE GOING TO DIE.”

The demon dived forward, raising a massive paw and lunged forward. The shinobi just stood, and raised his left hand. A black talon struck flesh...
And stopped dead. The Fox snarled, and the shinobi just looked up, smiling slightly.
“Never under estimate Fujiwara Kazunari.”

Kazu flicked sideways, sending the Fox off balance, before leaping upwards, slamming his fist right into it’s snout; sending it stumbling backwards. It snarled but was quickly silenced by a fireball to the face. Kazu landed and instantly broke forward into a sprint, slamming full force into one of the Fox’s legs, sending it crashing to the ground. He pulled back again, grinning.
The Fox push itself up, and roared; letting loose a wave of acidic chakra. Kazu flicked his Reaper’s Sword around, slashing upwards and let loose a torrent of his own chakra. The two negated each other, leaving an opening for the black haired shinobi to charge forward, leaping upwards and dragging his blade along the Fox’s back. He forced his chakra to his feet; creating a platform of air, before diving to the side, one of the Fox’s massive tailed slamming down on where he had been moments ago.
Kazu smirked as the Fox turned on him. As the demon barrelled towards him, Kazu snapped his fingers, disappearing in a flash. The Fox’s body was then jolted from side to side, it’s flesh rippling with the force of the impacts, as Kazu dived at it, full speed, again and again. Doing as McSmashy had taught him, Kazu plunged large portions of his chakra into his hands. It was very, very crude, but none the less effective, copy of McSmashy’s ability to transfer mass between his body parts. The move is incredibly draining, and has a high failure rate, but when it works it can deal some major damage. The Fox was finding this out first hand.
And combine that with Kazu’s unrivalled speed, it made kicking the Eleven Tailed Fox around child’s play. Crashing back to the ground, Kazu’s eyes were shut, and a ghostly figure stood behind him. A flowing robe, and slightly triangular hat were all that adorned the figure. As Kazu moved to draw his sword, the ghost did the same movements, following Kazunari exactly. They both crouched low, slowly drawing the otherworldly blade from it’s sheath. Then the ghost was gone; dispersing back to the Code from whence it came.
The Fox stood back up, raising it’s tails. A split second later, 11 balls of fire shot forward, all of them arcing towards Kazu. Gripping his blade wit h both hands, the shinobi stood his ground, eyes set on the demon in front of him. Another ghostly figure slowly eased into existence behind him. White hair, stretching down his back, light blue and white robes, and scars across his face. Even through the haze, you could make out the features of an old face.
As the fireballs rocketed forward, the two figures moved faster than seemed possible, even faster than Kazu had been moving before.
They slide sideways, cleaving one of the pulsing balls of flame, causing it to disperse into nothing. Then, forward, ducking under another fireball. Sword rising upwards caught two of them, before a spinning slash caught three of them. The rest were at too awkward angles to strike, but Kazu wasn’t fazed in the slightest. They struck, sending up a giant plum of black dust.
“Missed!” With a storm of azure flame, Kazu flashed into existence, high above the Fox. His right and was wreathed in the same azure flame, and he was grinning. “Behold, This Fist of Mine!”
And like a bolt of lightning, before the unending storm, he struck. The Fox was engulfed in the fire, no time to react. The very Field itself seems to pulse and vibrate around the pure, relentless Awesome of the attack. Kazu flipped away, his right arm now clear of flame. The Fox, on the other hand, was a towering inferno.
Drawing a small card from his inside his jacket, Kazu spun it around his right hand, waiting for the right moment. The flames parted, and the Fox charged forward, snarling and roaring, in a complete rage.
“Jackpot. Let’s you see break through the Manly Barrier Spellcard!” Kazu laughed, holding up the small card, yet another ghostly figure behind him. A silver suit, brown hair and a small beard, along with a huge grin. Kazu held the card in front of his face, grinning, as he prepared to let his chakra loose.
Burn it
“What...?”
Burn it!
Burn it!
Burn it!

Kazu looked to the card in his hand. Time has slowed to a crawl, as voices echoed all around him, and inside him. Inside his head. Inside his soul.

BURN IT!

For some reason, he trusted these voices. There was power behind them. Understanding. They knew something, and he wanted to know what. Steeling himself... Kazunari activated this Fist of Mine, and watched the Spellcard as it was engulfed in azure flames...

As his shell cracked and shattered, Kazunari did all he could to simply force this power from his body. He had no chance of controlling it; it was too much, too much for anyone to handle. The Field itself was peeling away. Kazu looked to his right arm, his hand ablaze in blinding light, and his arm... there was no skin, no flesh at all. It was just made of green lines, all the way up to his shoulder. He could see the code within his own body, even as a R00t that was impossible. One could not see their own code.
Looking towards the Fox, Kazu couldn’t help but smirk. The fearsome demon was cowering now, crouched low to the ground and slowly backing away. A flash of pain in his arm and the fire spread, not right up to his shoulder. IT was getting completely out of hand. At this rate, he was going to kill himself. The only thing he could do was at least try and regulate the chakra flow, but it was more than just chakra within his hand now... something far more powerful. As it mixed with his chakra, Kazu could feel the nameless, ageless demon inside his mind stir. It had tasted this power.
And it wanted it.
The fire began to spread across Kazu’s chest and face, destroying more of his Core Shell and revealing more of the green wires, and code. He’d never been more powerful... and never more vulnerable. A single, well aimed strike would erase him, completely. Thankfully, the Fox was far too concerned with trying to stay alive and avoid whatever was coming.
A sudden rush of power, the Fox and the demon both recoiled, as Kazu was engulfed in the azure light. But it didn’t hurt... no, in fact it was soothing. Relaxing. It was more than simple power. It was knowledge. It was a legacy.

It was Kazunari’s evolution. To something more than human. Something far better. As his Shell broke away, Kazu felt the flame within his soul. Empowering him. Changing him. The azure light shifted around his body, spreading outwards, driving back the darkness of the Field, as two massive wings of flame rose from the shinobi’s back. The demon inside him yelled in fury as it was cast into the farthest reaches of Kazu’s mind, and the Fox snarled, it’s own Shell breaking away, revealing the blood red chakra underneath... and the Flash floating within. Curling his right hand into a fist, the flames receded, but the wings remained, burning brightly. Then the flames spread out from his right hand, first straight, like a blade. Then out wards from his wrist, and converging on the point of the ‘sword’. There was a flash, and the light receded. The flames, however, did not. Now they coated a new weapon.
It was connected to Kazu, just above his right wrist. It shone with a sliver light, as the flames spun and coursed along it’s surface...
“Breaker Style.”
Kazu held the weapon above his head, grinning.
“Finale Impact.”
It started to spin, making an ear destroying whine as the flames whipped around.
”A DRILL!? YOU’RE USING A DRILL AGAINST ME!?”
“Heh, why not!?” Kazu let out a laugh, bringing the drill down level. “Now, just in case you didn’t hear me....” Kazu’s left eye flashed red, his feet lifted from the ground, his eyes set on the Fox.
“BREAKER STYLE: FINALE IMPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACT!!!!”
With a resounding boom, Kazunari shot forward, the Field itself buckling under the power, under the Awesome of the attack. The Fox didn’t have a chance to move as the drill slammed right into it’s forehead, the chakra around it spinning away into nothing. The air around them shimmered and cracked as the two massive pools of chakra clashed – blood red versus pure black.

-------------------------------------------
Arisa hummed to herself, slowly walking through the main square of Tengoku. She looked towards the Chaos gate and stopped, her thoughts slowly changing to the man on the other side. The man who’d been fighting for the last eleven days.
“Kazu...” She put her hand on her chest, resting it against the small, wooden heart, before her eyes shot upwards. Arisa stepped backwards as she saw the air above the village start to crack. A massive blast of chakra almost threw her off her feet, the square was in a panic now as ninja defence squads appeared from no-where; on the ground, on rooftops, or in the air riding summons. A massive creature began to form... a Fox.

An Eleven tailed fox.

And then someone else. A figure, wrapped in flames. Azure flames.
“Kazu!” Arisa grinned. She could recognize those flames anywhere, and along with the black chakra, it could only be Kazunari. There was a massive boom, and the fox was gone, along with the flames...

-------------------------------------------

Kazu felt himself being dragged from the Fields, the Fox right in front of him, as the two of them crashed into reality again. Kazu’s reality.
The Fox’s chakra dispersed, revealing the man within. The Flash. Using a burst of chakra, Kazu shot forward, swinging his right hand down, catching the Flash square on the head, sending him rocketing to the ground. Then, spinning out of control, Kazu fell as well, smashing through a building. He didn’t have time to worry about his wounds though as he shrugged the debris, leaping from the building and landing hard on the ground. Breaking out into a sprint, Kazu clipped the Flash’s jaw with an uppercut as the blonde ninja staggered to his feet. He took a few steps back, still disorientated, as Kazu launched into a flurry of punches and kicks, keeping the Flash on the defensive.
Lashing forward, Kazu grabbed the Flash’s head, pulled back, then slammed forward, cracking the Flash’s skull against a wall, then grabbed the blonde shinobi by the hair, and brought his face down on his knee. Kazu then kicked the Flash in the stomach, sending him sliding along the ground. But, the Flash wasn’t even fazed. Flipping to his feet, he wiped the blood from his nose, then rushed forward, swinging wildly. Just as he’d been trained by Astaroth, Kazu waited for the last second, then sidestepped the blow, grabbing the Flash’s arm and flipping him over. It was a perfectly executed counter, but the Flash knew what he was doing. Spinning around in mid-air, the Flash turned the counter back on Kazu, snapping his right arm around to an unnatural angle, before brining a foot down on Kazu’s knee. Kazu didn’t even flinch, slamming his head into the Flash’s nose, sending him staggering back. Then, snapping his arm and knee back into place, Kazu let loose with a low, quick blow to the Flash’s gut, before elbowing him in the back of the neck. As he fell, the Flash drove a kunai through Kazu’s foot, then swung up. But Kazu was gone, his sandal discarded and his foot a bloody mess, but he ignored it all. Kazu launched forward again, catching the Flash on the chin with his heel, shattering the bottom half of his jaw, then followed up with a powerful straight, sending the Flash staggering back.
As Kazu prepared for another attack, the Flash let loose a torrent of black flames, catching the White-Eye completely unaware. He was engulfed by the twisting, corrupted fire.

-------------------------------------------
“KAZU!” Arisa rushed forward as the Flash unleashed that black flame. She looked up, seeing Kazu’s jacket fly up into the air, the black flames eating away at it.
Her eyes focused back down on the Flash, just in time to see him be sent flying as the flames buckled and shot outwards. Kazu had his left hand out towards the Flash, his left eye ablaze with azure fire, before he rushed forward as well. The Flash was ready though, flipping around, pulling free a Sealed Kunai. Kazu ducked low, uppercutting the Flash, who quickly reversed the attack, pushing Kazu back, and bring the kunai down towards his heart. Kazu couldn’t move, and Arisa just looked on in horror as the twisted metal of the kunai pierced Kazu’s chest, right into his heart.
Kazu stumbled backwards, hands around the kunai, gasping for breath as blood flowed into lungs. He fell backwards, eyes still as his hands fell to his sides. The Flash just started to laugh, the blood red chakra returning, as it engulfed his body... and then stopped.
Arisa could hear a whirring. She looked over to her right, eyes settling on a small, metal cube. Turning her head back, she realized what the cube was. It was Kazu’s Time Reversal Cube. As she watched the Flash walk backwards, and Kazu rise up from the ground, the thought of How did it activate outside of the Fields? was quickly banished. Instead, she prepared to rush to Kazu’s aid, but quickly became aware that it really wasn’t necessary.
Now that Kazu was back on his feet, and free of the long, pointy metal thing lodged in his chest, you could easily see he was in a bad mood. Snapping the Flash’s wrist as he brought the kunai down a second time, Kazu lashed out, hand around the Flash’s throat and hoisting him into the air. Kazu’s eyes flashed emerald green, he tossed the Flash up, drew his right hand back, and then... it was over.

” FINAL DRAIN!”

His right hand flashed with the same green as his eyes as he swung forward, hitting the Flash square in the chest. But, instead of actually hitting the Flash, Kazu’s hand passed right through him, drawing out a strange, black version of the Flash, like a shadow version. Kazu slammed the shadow into the ground, as it wailed and screamed, reaching up at Kazu’s face with two twisting tendrils instead of hands. Kazu simply stood up straight, raised his right foot, and slammed down on the Dark Flash’s head, shattering whatever the demon had for a skull.

Turned away from the twitching shadow, Kazu pulled the shattered headband from his head, eyes settling on Arisa.
“Hey.”
“Hey.” She smiled, walking over to him. “Next time you go into a life or death fight... don’t die.” Arisa playfully punched Kazu’s chest, drawing a fake yelp of pain from him. The Flash slowly stood up, brushing down his coat, before turning to face Kazu.
As the legendary ninja opened his mouth to speak, the shadow reared up, lunging at Kazu. The White-Eye recoiled, holding one hand up while using the other to shove Arisa out of the way as the Dark Flash stuck to his arm, quickly spreading along, trying to cover his face. Kazu snarled, using both hands to try and pull the shadow away, but all he succeeded in doing was burning his own hands. Arisa rushed forward, grabbing the shadow, but recoiled, yelping in pain as she burned her own hands. Kazu roared, and then was cut silent as the shadow covered his face completely. Spreading along his chest...

And then it touched the Lycoris.
The shadow burst into red flames, screeching and wailing. And just as quickly, it was gone. Kazu collapsed, hands on his chest as he struggled to breath. Something felt like it was crushing his chest. Arisa kneeled next to him, scanning his body, looking for wounds. Instead she found something... else.

Kazu’s chakra was visible now, and it was changing. Instead of the random criss-cross of black chakra, it was moulding into another shell... with eleven tails. The ground under Kazu shattered, and Arisa was pushed back a good few feet, holding her breath as she was overpowered by the smell of death and decay.

And then it was all gone. The smell, the chakra, everything. Kazu fell forward, breathing slowly. The Flash smiled, walking forward. He pulled a crimson flower from his pocket, another Lycoris, and crouched down, placing the flower in Kazu’s hand, the Flash whispered into his ear, before standing and walking back towards the Chaos gate.

Arisa crouched next to Kazu again, her hand reaching down to touch the flower, and she smiled at him. He smiled back, and leaned against her, closing his eyes.
“Told you I’d come back, Arisa.” Kazu looked up for a second, and planting a quick kiss on her lips. Arisa giggled, and playfully slapped his arm.
“Come on you big lug, you need to see a doctor.” She put Kazu’s arm over her shoulder, helping him to his feet as the shinobi of Tengoku started to flood into the square, most of them muttering at the clean up job they had to do now.
The two started to make their way to the hospital, staying silent, before Arisa asked a single question.
“What did he say?”
Kazu didn’t answer right away, keeping his eyes locked on the road ahead, focusing on putting one foot in front of the other. As the hospital came into view, he finally spoke.

“See you on the High Seas.”
