*A Post-Potter RPG*

James glanced at his clock. 1:00AM glowed brightly into his bright blue eyes. His stomach growled loudly and filled the silence. He decided to head downstairs for a small snack. Just to hold his hunger over until morning.

He walked past the door to his dad's study where a single light illuminated a sliver of the hallway. He heard his parents' voices from within. James crept closer to the door to see his mother's fiery red hair facing him and covering his father's face. What were they doing up this late?

"Don't you think they have the right to know? They're your children for Christ sake!"

His father pinched the bridge of his nose, "No. This is supposed to be a safe world for them. Why tell them about the horrid past?"

"Because they have a right to know why their father is famous."

"You know it's forbidden to speak of. Even if I wanted to, I can't. We need not plague their minds."

"If you don't tell them, either someone else or I will."

"You wouldn't dare. You know the consequences of telling the young ones of Voldemort."

"I don't care about the bloody consequences! Why should we hide it?"

"There is a reason they banned books from printing things from our childhood. There is so much to the story you don't know. There was a prophecy made afterwards. A prophecy I heard with my own ears. If an easily influenced child is told the tale... History will repeat itself, but perhaps with a different ending."

"History will... You mean, there will be a new..."

"Yes. We must keep it a secret. A secret that will protect our present and our futures."

James backed away slowly from the door. What in history will repeat itself? What was a "Voldemort"? What did it even do? The study door creaked and James scurried off to the kitchen for his snack. He glanced back to see his father absent-mindedly rubbing the scar on his forehead. The one from a broom accident. Or... Was it not even a broom accident after all?

---

Harry and friends are all grown up. Now, it is Albus' first year at Hogwarts and James' second. He knows his father has done something momentous, but he doesn't know what. The younger kids have their own adventures. While their siblings go to school and their parents are at work, what sort of trouble will they get into? There was a prophecy told the night of the final battle. If too many find out about the past, a new Dark Lord may rise to power. The wizarding world is determined not to let history repeat itself. But, is it really possible to keep a secret as big as this one? With certain wizards still running around, is it safe?

Duke Greyback
Big Bad Wolf
One of the most exciting things about being a prefect was the fact that the Ravenclaw was able to use the prefect's bathroom. In fact, it was possibly the only reason he'd been willing to accept the position. He hated how much attention he got when he flashed his badge. The attention was a down side to the badge. The power was also a down side. It was almost like being in the Ministry all over again. People looked at him and whispered. It was a pain to have to deal with all of the time. Most people who had heard of his father seemed to whisper about if the younger male was a werewolf and if he was, did he happen to be as cruel as his father.

That was one of the main reasons he did everything he could to simply stay out of sight and avoid using his last name. In places like his pack, it was alright to go ahead and admit to being a Greyback. In Hogwarts of the surrounding Wizarding areas, it was a bad idea to admit to it. Luckily the badge simply said Ravenclaw Prefect instead of anything that had to do with his name. He could always use a different name when getting someone into any kind of trouble.

Pushing all depressing thoughts from his mind, the sixteen year old finally slid into the bath. It was possibly one of the best places to go for a bath in all of Hogwarts. At least, that's what the Ravenclaw had always assumed. Then again, he'd only been to the men's bathroom. Most of them tended to lack a sense of privacy. They were hardly places he wanted to walk around without covering up his scars. For once it seemed his dislike of showing off his scars out weighed his dislike for wearing shirts. He'd wear shirts as long as people didn't ask questions about how he had gotten so damaged.

A grin slid onto his face for the first time that night. The male slid deeper into the bath and couldn't help but laugh. He'd been helping out first years who couldn't think of any reason not to trust him. Now he just had to wonder if they would still act the same way if they had learned that he was the big bad wolf around campus. Not that he'd ever admit to it out loud.

James was bored. Now, this wasn't exactly unusual, but it could not be denied. Sitting in the common room, he realized he had nothing to do. He had finished all of his homework already. However, the rest of his friends were still working. Sighing, James stood. He wasn't about to sit around doing nothing! It was the first time in a long time that he'd finished his work so early. He might as well take advantage of it and do some exploring. He'd seen most of the castle last year, but there were always new places to see. He was halfway down the corridor before he saw something. There was a slip of paper on the ground. It read, "Prefects Bathroom". Underneath, there seemed to be a password. That was when James put two and two together. Two floors down was the Prefects bathroom. Teddy had told him about it last year. He'd been a Prefect. From what Teddy had told James, the Prefects bathroom was amazing! It had a large bath with colorful taps and bubbles. James knew what to do.

He crept down the rest of the corridor needlessly. There was no one around and he wans't actually sneaking yet, so it was pointless. But, it was all in good fun. The twelve year old was just having a good time. Well, until he tripped over a bench. He was sure he had bruised his ankle, but it was nothing too painful. Gingerly, James walked on. When he reached the stairs, they were rotating. Impatiently, he began to tap his foot as he waited for the staircase to reach him. When it finally did, James took them two at a time. He reached the sixth floor and pressed on, still creeping. When he reached the second staircase, it was already waiting for him. This time, he slid down the banister. It was quicker that way. Now that he had decided to go, he wanted to get to the Prefects bathroom as soon as possible. Reaching the fifth floor, he was nearly sprinting down the corridor. Finally, he found it. The door loomed in front of him. Now, he had a choice. Open it and risk a detention? Or, he could walk away and miss out on a great opportunity. James, never one to miss out on anything, opened the door.

James gasped. It was even better than Teddy had said! The first thing he registered was the size. The bathroom was enormous! There weren't that many prefects. And, it wasn't as if they were all going to use the bathroom at the same time, so why was it so big? Then, he saw the bath. What a sight! Not only did it have colorful water, but James thought it had at least ten taps! A different color poured from each one. The third thing James noticed was the boy in the bath. At that point, it was too late to leave. If he made a move, the boy would notice him. And, to make matters worse, this was a Prefect. So, not only would James be caught, he would also have detention and lose House points. For lack of a better idea, he decided to go for broke and approach the other boy. Maybe he'd be cool. Maybe he wouldn't report James. And, maybe he was a werewolf! Yeah, right.

"Erm, hi."

Big Bad Wolf
Duke was working hard on relaxing and not think about the bad memories. However when he was away from his pack life was a little bit harder for him. With his pack, everyone understood what was going on. They were all fine with him wanting to be alone. In fact, they often wanted to be left totally alone at the same time. It was something that he counted as a blessing whenever he was able to go home and live with one of the older males in his pack. At least he wasn't living with the alpha or anything like that which could be potentially dangerous for him.

While he was working on clearing his head, someone opened a door. If he were in a better mood, he might actually open his eyes and look at who spoke. But he was still a bit grumpy from having to deal with first years almost all day. The boy just needed to work on relaxing and letting his all of his worries melt away. This wasn't anything that was natural for him, but he if he were going to keep his badge he needed to make sure he didn't kill any of the students.

Hearing a voice that didn't belong to a prefect or a professor, Duke's eyes shot open. He didn't even have time to stop the growl that ripped from his throat. It was just another unwelcome reminder that told him about how he wasn't a normal student. He never was and he never would be. After spending all day trying to convince first years that he was a normal person, it was a bit hard for him to actually admit he growled.

"What are you doing in here?" Asking who the boy was seemed pointless. He wasn't even sure if he should report the kid. Maybe if he could convince the kid to say nothing about the growl by saying he'd forget he was there. It could work as a fair trade. Then again, the teachers and staff knew he wasn't all human. It was just the students he had to worry about. How would they act if they all learned the truth? Then again, the last name didn't leave him much room to hide.

Actually getting out of the water and covering his lower body up with a towel, he glanced at the boy. Naturally it had to be one of the small ones who found themselves in the bathroom. "Now tell me, which of the bloody other prefects gave you the password? I might as well go make them pay for it. They should get into trouble just as much as you should." And it was all said with a grumble in his chest.

James couldn’t help but wonder if his father had been in this very bathroom. Harry had been a Prefect, back in the day, of course. He realized he might be standing exactly where his father once had. A pang of homesick-ness shot through him. James shrugged it off. He’d see his mum and dad at Christmas. If he felt bad later, he could always write. He’d attach it to one of Al’s letters. His younger brother wrote the family at least twice a week. They were lucky to receive a letter from James once a month! He enjoyed being at school and the freedom it gave him. Often, he used this freedom to get into trouble, but that was besides the point. He was sure his mum and dad had gotten into just as much trouble in their younger days. Even in the Prefects bathroom.

When he saw the boy, James panicked. At first, he began to move back. But, he realized that the door had closed. Opening it would make too much noise. There was no way to escape. This was a worst case scenario. He’d never been in a situation quite like this before. He stepped forward once more. What to do? Approaching the boy was his best bet, but he didn’t want to get into trouble either. His parents would not be happy with him. The last thing he needed was a Howler from his father! That had happened last year. It had been the most embarrassing moment in James’ young life. He wished to avoid another such moment at all costs.

James realized, too late, that the other boy’s eyes were closed. He could have made his escape, but he hadn’t been observant. Now, the Prefect was angry. In fact, he growled. James jumped, startled. Had the boy really growled? Maybe he wasn’t a boy at all! Maybe he was something entirely different! James shook his head. Of course he was a boy! He had probably imagined the growl. Adrenaline pumped hard and fast through James’ body. This was not good. He was stuck in the Prefects bathroom with an angry, growling Prefect! Why hadn’t he just stayed and waited for his friends to finish their homework?

“I was, um, looking for the Room of Requirement?” It came out as more of a question. As soon as it was out, though, James had a story. “My father told me about it so I thought I’d come looking. I guess I came to the wrong place. I’ll just be going…” He began to inch toward the door. Yes, that was believable enough. There were all sorts of stories told about the Room of Requirement. James had already found it, but the older boy didn’t need to know that. First years went looking for it all the time. James was short. Maybe the other boy would think he was just an innocent first year. Or, worst case scenario, he would recognize James because he was slightly famous because of his father. Unfortunately, the latter was most likely.

As he neared the door, the boy left the bath. James stopped dead. There went that plan. As the Prefect stood and wrapped a towel around his waste, James noticed something very odd. The older boy was covered in scars! They were all over his body. Who was this strange boy? Did he have a rare disease that made him growl and sport scars? Or, maybe he was actually a murderer and… No. James was letting his imagination run away with him again. He was a normal boy who’d been in one too many fights. That was all.

“N-nobody gave me the password. I f-found it on the floor.” James stammered. To prove it, he pulled the folded paper from his robes and held it out to the Prefect. His heart was pounding. It threatened to burst from his chest. James was feeling a little dizzy. He leaned on the wall, trying to look casual. It would not do to show fear. “Um, I don’t really want to get into trouble today, so if I could just go…” He looked at the boy hopefully.

Duke Greyback
Big Bad Wolf
The boy was going to start working on a lie about looking for the room of requirements. Duke had been to the room before, but he never found anything he felt like really being excited about. The room wasn't too bad, but he wasn't too impressed with it. Just like he wasn't impressed with this boy's lie. If he had meant to be in the other room, then he wouldn't have needed the password he needed in order to get into the bathroom. It was meant to be a privilege and a bribe to get good people like Duke to agree to be a prefect.

But he figured he wouldn't say anything about the lie. The boy knew it was a lie and Duke knew it was a lie. So it was a bit interesting for him to just stare. It wasn't like he had a reason for him to really say anything back. The werewolf simply blinked and went back to staring. He had no real reason to say anything. It wasn't like he'd done anything wrong at all. The other boy was the one who shouldn't be in the room.

One good thing about being in the bathroom, Duke didn't need to worry about wearing a shirt. He typically didn't like shirts. This worked just fine for him. He could almost forget the scars, except the boy had the same look for a second that most people had. Hopefully the kid would simply think Duke was a fighter or an abused child or something like that. Werewolf was not a term most people used. Especially when they had only met Duke for a few minutes.

"You're telling me that one of the other prefects is bloody incompetent enough that they actually wrote the password down?" That wasn't too far fetched, actually. He stalked over to the boy and took the paper. Opening it up, it did have the password on it. Frowning, he actually snorted. "Then, I'm keeping this. The bathroom wouldn't be much of a bribe if any nonprefects are wandering around it."

Glancing at the kid, he wasn't sure if he should just let the kid leave without any trouble. He had broken rules and all of that. Duke wouldn't be much of a prefect if he let just anyone go without any kind of trouble. "You look familiar." That was a bit true. Maybe he had busted the kid for something earlier. Then again, Duke had been meeting lots of people and getting them into trouble.

If the boy was a chronic rule breaker, he might as well bust the kid for this. He tossed the paper with the password into the water he had been submerged in. Running his free hand through his hair, he figured he might as well go ahead and introduce himself. "Prefect Duke Greyback. This is the point where I would typically flash my badge, but it's that pile." He pointed towards the pile of his clothing.

James was proud of himself. He’d thought of such a good story on such short notice! Really, it wasn’t too much of a stretch. He had been exploring. So what if he’d already found the Room of Requirement? In fact, it hadn’t been all that interesting. James had found it accidentally while trying to hide a box of Puking Pastilles he’d received from his uncle, George. He’d been wandering down the seventh floor corridor and a door had appeared. Immediately, James recognized it for what it was. Upon entry, he realized it was just a large storage room. There were all kinds of hidden things there. After rifling through the junk, he’d realized that there wasn’t much of value. So, he’d hidden his treats and left. Since that day, he’d used the Room plenty of times. Though slightly boring, it was not useless.

He realized that he hadn’t fooled the other boy. The Prefect obviously recognized James’ lie. Well, there went that plan. Now he was in pretty deep. What to say? At this point, any thought that James might be innocent would have left the boy’s mind. The whole thing was not looking good for James. He looked at the floor. Well, if he was in trouble, he wouldn’t go down without a fight. James was witty and he wasn’t going to make this easy for the older boy.

The boy’s silence was annoying. Why wasn’t he saying anything? He knew that James had lied, so why not call him on it? Yet, there he stood, silent and still as a statue. He just stared at James. It was unnerving. Not that he wasn’t used to people staring at him, but this particular occasion was just uncomfortable. Skin prickling, James wanted more than anything to get out of the Prefects bathroom. He’d accepted his fate. He would receive a Howler any day now. Whether it would be his mother’s or his father’s voice, James did not know. He couldn’t decide which would be worse. His mother because of her loud and feminine voice? Or, his father because of his fame and his equally loud and deep voice? Either way, it would be humiliating. Well, he could always laugh it off…

“That’s what I just said, isn’t it? Obviously, you lot aren’t as smart as the professors think you are.” James said snidely. He could be pretty obnoxious when he wanted to be. Maybe he could intimidate the older boy. It was a bit hard to say, but with fame, anything was possible. The Prefect came over and took the paper. Snatched it, really. “Fine, I know the password, anyway.” James laughed. He would remember for as long as necessary. And, should they change it, he was sure he could find out from someone. There was at least one incompetent Prefect out there. Shouldn’t be too hard to find.

“Well, yeah… My dad’s one of the most famous wizards of the century!” James was shocked the boy hadn’t realized. He was James Potter. Everyone knew him, even if he didn’t know why. Even the professors knew to treat him with some respect. Usually, he didn’t need it. In actuality, James was a pretty good kid. Sometimes, now being one of them, he got into a little bit of trouble.

James watched as the other boy tossed the paper into the bath. Wouldn’t that clog the drain or something? Was there even a drain? James was still in awe of the large bath. One day, he would be a Prefect and he would get to use the special bath. Or, one day, he could come back when there wasn’t anyone there. Next time, he’d be more careful.

“Duke Greyback? I know you… My dad’s told me things. Cool!” He smiled. He’d been busted by a werewolf. But, he wasn’t actually supposed to know, so he probably shouldn’t have said anything… It wouldn’t do to upset a werewolf! “James Potter. And, no need to flash the badge. Those things just aren’t that special.”

Big Bad Wolf
Oh really. He wasn't all that smart? "Well, the password will change later today. And I'll personally tell every prefect that if they tell you the password, I will rip them to shreds." And he didn't mean with magic. This was also the reason he refused to play Quidditch or anything else like that. He'd be too tempted to use his werewolf side for bad. Then again, he rarely admitted to strangers that he had the werewolf side. It wasn't like people needed to know about it.

So this boy was related to someone famous? Like he cared. Again a growl was torn from his throat before he could think about it. "So I'm expected to know who you are because of your dad? Well, I don't care at all about that. You're not your dad, so you're not going to get the same respect." In fact, he would be willing to go ahead and smack this kid for thinking his parent meant anything to him. Maybe his father was one of the many people Duke's own father had terrorized. If that was true, then he might as well go ahead and do what would make his father proud.

Wow. That was a thought he'd never allowed himself to think. His father was one of the meanest werewolves around. Was he really suppose to think about where his dad left off? The old man might just be in Azkaban, but maybe his madness really had genetically passed into the young Ravenclaw.

Oh. It was a Potter kid. Yeah. That was someone his father would be proud of him for destroying. Now the only question was, should he actually give in and act like his father? Take the potion so he could stay in control but position himself near this kid. As a prefect he had access to all of the school. He could easily lie and say he lost control. It would be so easy...

"They're special because people like you will never get them." Another growl was pulled from his throat. He hadn't been this growly since the first time he dated a girl. It was weird to see his anger flash out. But he might as well pretend the kid knew he was a werewolf and just go with that.

So a smile formed on his lips. It wasn't a normal smile but more of a smile that would belong on the face of crazy person who might actually attack. "If your dad has said anything, then he should have included the fact that I'm not at all afraid to kill a kid. It doesn't matter who your dad is. Because you want to know a secret? When I sift, names mean nothing to me. And if my father could get away with murdering millions of kids, I would be able to do the very same thing."

The boy wished he could be like the typical werewolves that were in books. It would be amazing if he could turn into a werewolf whenever he wanted to. He'd shift now and do what would make his father proud.

Ugh. He really needed to get this kid out of the bathroom so he could calm down and then go take house points away from Gryffindor.

“Rip them to shreds? Isn’t that taking things a little too far? I mean, if you rip someone to shreds, I think they’ll take your badge…” James grinned cockily. The boy wouldn’t dare rip him up inside of Hogwarts. The professors would be on him, not to mention James’ own family. His father would be furious. In less than an hour, the Prefect would be alienated by everyone. And, James’ family would get even more attention than they already had, making the older boy’s efforts useless. Being famous had its perks.

“Jeez. You really don’t get out much, do you? Seriously, everyone knows me…” James was surprised the boy didn’t recognize him immediately. And, he was even more surprised when he got less respect for his father’s fame, rather than more like he’d been hoping. Who was this guy? Who did he think he was? Sure, James had come to the Prefects bathroom, but it was just an innocent exploration. The Prefect didn’t need to be that angry about it. Of course, James had caught him in the bath, which was awkward. Still, it didn’t merit this sort of a mood. Involuntarily, James took a step back. This boy was unstable.

Now, the Prefect was glaring. Rather than staring at him like before, he looked like he was trying to burn a hole through James. If looks could kill, James would be long gone. It was as if the boy wanted to rip him to shreds, rather than the Prefects, as promised. He was beginning to realize that this conversation could be dangerous. His heart began to beat faster.

Finally, James saw recognition in Duke’s eyes. However, besides the flicker, nothing else changed. Why? If the guy knew James was a Potter, he should be a little nicer. To be honest, James wasn’t trying to make an enemy out of him. He could use an older student to show him the ropes and what not. He was still a little foggy on some things, being a second year. But, the other boy’s temper was making things difficult. Obviously, he didn’t understand James’ humor. It was in his nature to be sarcastic. He couldn’t help it!

“How do you know? I could be a Prefect one day. I’ve got three years to shape up, right?” He smiled, attempting to look friendly. With all the threats, James thought it best to play it safe. Again, a growl ripped from Duke’s throat. There was no denying it, this time it was definitely real. So much for playing it safe. He’d made the Prefect angrier than he’d meant to. Maybe he was overdoing the snot-nosed brat thing. He wasn’t, really. It was just a technique.

James stared in disbelief as a smile spread across Duke’s face. But, it was no ordinary smile. The expression Duke wore looked almost…feral. Great! This was just what he needed. James had upset a werewolf. When he’d said it out loud like that, he’d only meant that he thought Duke’s being a werewolf was cool! What had he gotten himself into?

“Yeah, I know all about your dad… But, that wasn’t what I meant! My dad hasn’t told me much about you, anyway. Just that your Fenrir’s son. Heck, I don’t even know that much about him. I really didn’t mean to make you angry. I just think it’s cool that you’re a werewolf and all…” James said. He just wanted to get back to his common room. He hadn’t been lying, so Duke couldn’t be too angry with him. James really did think it was cool. “So, you see, there is absolutely no need to kill me…”
