First of all there's no need to react angrily here, this is just a light-hearted topic, inspired by the Alternate Histories forum, possibly more revisionist than the various republican sites I have seen! Anyway the year is 1974, the Ulster Workers Strike is in full swing, but unfortunately its not going as well as hoped. The British Prime Minister Harold Wilson has decided to use the military to break the strikes, and in response the UVF begins paramilitary operations against the British Army. They declare a state of emergency, and the formation of an independent Ulster (making claim to the all 9 counties). They hoist the flag of the new Workers' state over Belfast City Hall. ![]() And a new nation is born, but they will have a major fight on their hands, not just against the British Army and RUC, but also against the IRA border patrols who are at their height of influence.. |
