Pirates Trade: RP - Carlos Martinez - 400k (17-18T) RP - Danny Farquhar - 1.5M SEA (16) SS - Johnathan Villar 400k HOU (16-17T) 3B/1B - Mike Olt 400k CHC (17-18T) 2B/3B - Marcus Semien 400k CHW (17-18T) OF - Jason Werth 6.0M WAS (15) Braves Trade SP RA Dickey 400K (15) SP Gavin Floyd 3.5M (15) 3B Adrian Beltre 22M (14) I have a shot this year, which is crazy considering I was in last place last year. beltre will help me out as 3B was one of my weak spots. And my young Pitchers have been injured lately so I wanted some quality depth and getting that with Floyd and dickey. Beltre will be a resign for me. I hate to part with all the young talent, especially Martinez, but I am going for it and I will have depth from the minors coming up next year. Wearth and Farquhar are more for Salary flexibility for me and I have some depth in those positions whenever harper and casilla come back from the DL. Edited by Red Sox GM, Jun 3 2014, 07:00 AM.

I would have liked more for beltre but Martinez was the piece I coveted despite the fact his era is nearly 5 I believe long term. I planned to sign Beltre long term so it's a gamble but I've been looking for youth. Olt's average is terrible as is villar but all these guys are worth a long term shot. I don't mind losing the short term as I am mired in .500 mediocrity. I accept and look to build for the future.

This is a horrible trade. Beltre is losing ab's because he's out of a contract and out of space in a year. His numbers are identical to Werth right now, except Werth has a better FPCT and more sb's. He's ranked 178th over Werths 108th. They're both 35, and last year hit similar numbers despite Werth having 150 less ab's due to the ankle strain. Villar has a terrible average, but the dude is going to finish with 15-17 home runs, 55-62 rbi's, 31-35 sb's and a decent amount of experience at a position that he should have for another year at least. He's coming into his own. Olt has a terrible average but he will end with 20+ home runs and 60+ rbi's. Not terrible considering he's a year removed from eye surgery and he's still compensating the strikezone in his switch from the AL. CarMart used to be an A prospect. He's the backup closer and they haven't learned that every time they give him a save opportunity he blows it. The only reason he has 11 of his 15 ER's is in high intensity save opportunities. Dude is a monster otherwise with 12 holds and a solid 7man. Farquhar has a great closer and a great holder capacity. Sports a sub 3 era and a constant delivery. Marcus Semien looks to be just a service-man but it will tell more when he gets more time next year. As of now his value is probably still relative to his old B- value. R.A. Dickey is 39, has a 4 ERA and will end up with again finishing somewhere in the 12-12 to 14-14 ratio with a 7 k/9 ratio. Floyd on the other hand hasn't been healthy since 2011, and hasn't had a sub 4 era since 2008. That's my 2 minute run-down of the trade. If the Pirates want to trade all their youth off for guys they won't have more than a year and a half...who am I to stand in their way. I might not like it but somebody's gotta lmfao. 1-0 |
