Well, I barely registered the fact that the game came out, and only really notcied because I happened to check Atomic Fire that same day. To say I was apathetic about Megaman Star Force would be putting it mildly, but...

Well, hell, I was bored out of my skull and I'd heard some good things about the series, so I picked up Leo (incidentally, Leo is also my astrological sign, due to being born in late July) and I have had... reservations about putting it down.

To any and all who might be holding off on acquiring this because it's really just Megaman e'X'e, please, don't worry.

First off, the somewhat sardonic humor that sometimes made the Battle Network series such a trip has not only returned, but cranked up a few notches due to the relationship between Geo (default name! Not my fault!) and Omega-Xis (or Mega, as he gets referred to). Geo is pretty much a shut in kid with no friends and a fairly 'who-cares' attitude, where as Mega is... well, the phrase I'd use is 'jackass.' He's very much a guy with his own agenda and, especially at first, he doesn't give a damn who gets in the way. He apparently knows something about Geo's dad (who was lost in space [danger, Will Robinson!]) but refuses to let on about any actual information, and has the same general interest in the safety of humanity that the average teenager has in learning about mortgages.

I'm barely halfway through the game, and I find myself being pulled into the characters way faster than I'm used to, which makes for a fairly interesting setting and story. That, combined with a fairly good combat system (Wait, there's a 'guard' button?) makes for a good game, and I can't say I'm dreading a sequel. Especially after the last four games in the BN series had way too much 'friendship and light' for my taste, the Star Force is a nice example of 'making due with what you have.'

Well, that's an endoresment I can get behind. Maybe I'll pick up one of the versions after all, and hopefully not feel the completionist urge to buy all three. I still hate Capcom's multiple version marketing sysyem, but if they actually managed to make a good, fun game with characters that are still interesting, then I have to hand it to them. They can still keep the franchise afloat.

I probably won't pick up the games for a few years though, just like how long it took me to try MMZ. Right now it's less a matter of "Let's see how it goes" and more "I'm too busy to play video games these days...*sob*."

Glad to hear it really is good. I ordered Dragon off of GameStop a while ago, but seeing as how I was forced to back order the thing it might take weeks until they are actually in stock again.

I picked the game up thinking it'd be akin to BN but with 3-D fighting instead. Not saying that's a bad thing, I ignored BN3 and 4's plot on the large end anyway, so this may or may not have to be the same way. I was pleasantly surprised.

Now, character depth is not something you'll see in many of the EXE games. Most times, characters have personalities that could be summed up in a word. Not to mention, they were all typically cheery people unless it was a bad guy or something serious just happened to them. So here comes Geo, a guy that starts out with no friends and a generally glum disposition, far different that any major character out of Battle Network. (You all know Lan's going to be Homecoming king.) So... this was quite a shock. The whole first chapter of the game I couldn't quit thinking "So, at some point soon he's bound to just go "OK, I'm going to cheer up and save the world for my dad!". Well, I can assure you that didn't happen.

Even the people you would characterize as "friends" in the BN series seem to be real arseholes. They don't really care about what's bothering him or WHY he doesn't go to school - they just want to score some brownie points!

At any rate, the fact that these guys actually have some personality and flaws to them really adds to the games experience. There's a lot more I could praise about the game, but that's the one thing I'm most glad for with it.

StarForce - highly recommended.

I agree completley, but there are some things that irk me. I don't like the fact that the got rid of the alphabet coded chips (cards now, I guess.) The whole stradegy now revolves around having choosing good favorites, being lucky, and also countering. I HATE countering. I can't counter anything, and thus not get good Best Combos. There isn't as much stradegy in choosing chips anymore. Otherwise it's awesome.

Does anyone have Pegasus, by the way? I can't find anyone. T_T Everyone I know has Dragon (including me), and Pegasus Brothers are better than Dragon brothers.

Yeah, I found the fact that the characters had so many flaws and the two main characters were a rather depressing kid and a jerk made an interesting story. There definately was more character development than the exe series in my opinion, and I hope they don't mess things up by having the characters be totally nice and friendly in the sequel.

Fenix, I have Pegasus. However there is a topic
for friends codes already so it might be a good idea to revive that rather than create a new thread for gathering friend codes or going off topic. Hope this doens't count as advertising outside of the blatant self promotion area.
