Not only is the year 2007 Megaman's 20th Anniversary, but it's also the 10th Anniversary of what I think is the BEST game in the X series!![]() When I first became a die-hard MM fan back in 1996, I had only thought the X series was just "Okay". I mean, I didn't hate it or anything, I liked it, but I just mostly only liked the original classic series. When X4 came around, that's when I got around to liking the X series alot. You could play as Zero, anime cut scenes, 32 bit graphics, Toshihiko Horiyama's AWESOME music (I STILL can't find a picture of this guy anywhere!), and the introduction of the prettiest reploid girl ever, Iris: ![]() And the romance between her and Zero is what got me into the game most I think, because I found it quite interesting the first time I saw it. I also think this sort of kicked off my obsession with romance between game and anime couples if it wasn't Heero & Relena. (no wait, I take it back, I think it was Ryu Hayabusa and Irene Lew from Ninja Gaiden that did that, but Iris and Zero & Heero and Relena made the addiction spread). I never got to play the Saturn version of the game until 2000 when I got it used with no case or manual, and this version kicks the shit out of the version for the PSOne! I also bought a japanese Saturn copy in 2003 (first Saturn import I ever got), and to celebrate the game's 10th Anniversary, I bought another copy of the US Saturn release, but this one comes with the case and manual! So now I've got......5 COPIES of the game. Two US Saturn releases (One with case and manual, one without), one japanese Saturn import, The original pressing of the original PSOne release, and the PSOne Greatest Hits version......and if you count MMX collection for GCN, then that makes 6. And I still think it's the best of the X saga 10 years later. |

I am unsure if they are continuing the Maverick Hunter X series of remakes. If they did people would kill for MHX4. But I hope to God they do. I liked the X series but X4 galvanized it. The drama, the twist and the tradgey of Repliforce, X and Zero is timeless. Plus the gameplay was some of the best the series has seen. |

I borrowed X4-6 from my cousin and i'm on X5 now, and i gotta admit that it pales in comparison to X4. X5 has so many rule changes like shots stopping at walls, continues start you off at a checkpoint (not that it's bad, but it just didn't feel right,) the inability to immediately use armor parts upon finding them (all i found was the Gaea Armor's arm part in Mattrex's stage,) cheap ways of getting killed in one of the levels (think Quick Man's stage only MUCH HARDER!) and what got me the most was the lack of cutscenes. I'd take crappy voicework like in X4 over an utter lack of voice acting any time. It's either X or X4 that's my favorite in the X series. I like the idea of multiple storylines but multiple playable characters is something i haven't gotten used to yet, so i dunno which game i like best outta the X series. |

Plus the whole Guns 'N' Roses name theme.... It was a step back and I wonder why Keiji Inafune decided on that. But it's cool to see the ending that leads to Mega Man Zero. |

I meant some of those changes were a step back, the lack of animated scenes and the other things i quoted from Mega Man N. |

Inducted into Evil

Hmm, well, for my first time posting in a forum in over 5 years, talking about my favorite X game is a nice start, right? I loved this game to death. I managed to snag the PC version of it... I'm thinking about 1999. Great year, I expanded a lot of gaming horizons, being the naive "SEGA GENESIS ROXXOR" child that I was. 'Course the game had a rough start with me. Being a sheltered youth, I think I spent about an hour after I read Zero say "Damn!" during the intro. Because naturally I played as Zero first after I installed it. At that time the only Mega Man games I'd ever played were Megaman 2 and Megaman X, despite my love for the series, and playing as someone other than him was just the coolest thing since vanilla pudding pops. Ahem, but yeah, in terms of gameplay this thing was a beast. X and Zero played totally differently, armor upgrades were some of my favorite in the series (Ultimate Armor Baby!), the bosses were fun and not at all repetitive... and the plot, holy crap, the plot! I loved the drama, the surprises (which, having played the previous entries in the series now, are totally not surprises at all), everything was just stellar. And the cut scenes just blew my mind. I think the only anime I'd ever seen at that point was DBZ or maybe Sailor Moon (Though I'd never admit it.) The Voice Acting wasn't that shoddy either for the time, at least in my opinion. I know how much some people hated that game's actors, but for me, just hearing video game characters talk was like the second coming of Jesus. I could prattle on about childhood memories and how hardcore AWESOME this game is, but I think I've got the point across. Solid game, good memories. |
| I am prepared to passionately argue my point until nothing makes sense! And if that doesn't work, then the hours of whining will! | |
