http://ca.news.yahoo.com/florida-pastor-fo...155810-498.html So Pastor dude finally carried out his "burn the Koran" idea and it got 20 innocent people killed. I find the whole Koran burning distateful. It's just hatred pure and simple. But then the people in Afganistan are much worse! Way to prove the guy's point guys. Bravo. He burns your holy book and you kill 20 people. Way to prove how peaceful Islam is and how wrong he was to burn your holy book. They're giving all of 'em a bad name. One day Muslims will look back to this as their dark ages. |

Whenever I read arguments about Islam being an inherently violent religion, I often wonder if you couldn't make the same point about parts of the Bible. Personally, I'd like to read both Holy Books someday so as to see if these kinds of statements have any basis in reality (although I highly doubt this is the case). In conclusion, I wouldn't want to live in America right about now, especially with all of the open hostility and hatred occuring. |

Any religion or belief can be twisted into a justification for violence if you're selective enough with the context. It is human nature to want to kill and end people who are outside of our personal circle of trust. We've struggled for so long against this nature that the vast majority have forgotten what we are. There has never been a greater killing machine than the combination of man's mind and body. This role of Islam being used as the Mid East's justification for wanton violence is certainly nothing new. The Turkish and Persian empires are great example of this, just as the Christian Crusades and Spanish Inquisition are great examples of Christian motivations of violence. But it always up to the individual to make a choice to use their religion as an excuse to indulge in this behavior. And here in America, the only difference is that the hate rhetoric is more open and out there because its protected by Constitutional rights. But make no mistake; this same hatred exists everywhere- its just kept more secret elsewhere because laws force it to be unseen. However, "unseen" isn't the same as "not existing". I think its more dangerous to be unseen, since you can't avoid it as easily. At least most people know to avoid the guy spewing hate rhetoric, and its a very small minority that listens and buys into it. The Quran burning prick is no better than the Afghani terrorists. The blood of those innocents is on his hands as well. He knew full well what he was doing. He knew exactly what was possible, and he did it anyways. And for what? For the sake of being able to do so without direct repercussions? To perhaps intentionally spur the extremists into action in order to prove a point? If so, all he's proven is that there's crazy people out there, which was already a widely known fact, so he's proven nothing but that he's a prick. So, while he could get away with burning a holy book, it doesn't mean he should have. Just as the Westboro monsters can "get away" with spewing their filth at military funerals as much as neo-Nazis get away with their hate speech. There's this thing called "tact", and its the only thing that will allow us to have maximum rights. If we lack tact, we'll lose our rights, just as a wild five year old will have their toys taken away from them. We'll always have a lunatic fringe to spoil the party for everyone, but its up to the majority to constantly downplay and dispel the influence of these lunatics for the sake of maintaining the peace and rights of everyone. If we get lazy and allow the voice of these idiots to overpower our own through inaction, then, frankly, we deserve to have our rights taken away along with theirs'. America was founded almost entirely on the concept of religious freedom, so everyone has a duty to protect this freedom by preventing the lunatic fringe from exploiting this freedom for their own personal gain and fame, which is exactly what the Quran burning douche has done. This freedom is far too precious to let it slip away. Its something that has to be constantly earned and striven for, and never taken for granted. Sadly, the majority take the latter path. |

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110402/ap_on_.../as_afghanistan And they're still at it. Geez, you'd think they'd realize that this is exactly the sort of attitude that makes their country a bad place to live. Rioting is not the answer. |

Sometimes, people just get caught up in the mob mentality, lose their sense of identity and start doing whatever everyone else is doing, which tends to be trashing things. |
