Occasionally, Gwayloth tired of dining on the same old food every single day. Herdbeasts were well and good in moderation, but the blue found himself craving variety that the Weyr's stock alone couldn't provide. Not long ago he'd had the pleasure of sampling a wherry caught in the jungles that surrounded Maori and fallen in love with the rough, gamey taste. The wild-caught creature had thicker and more flavorful meat, not to mention having a marvellously nutty aftertaste. That meal had been superb, and he'd told M'roft to remember how much he'd like it for later on. Unfortunately, their busy schedule precluded frequent trips to the jungle to hunt the delicious wherries... well, that and M'roft's hatred for the jungle's many insects. Few people reacted to bug bites like M'roft did; it seemed that every insect within a several-mile radius was innately drawn to the sensitive skin of his neck and back, where they bit down and gave him terribly itchy rashes that made him grumpy for days. Some of those bites could be prevented if M'roft would only wear sensible clothing, but it was quite hot in the jungle and the man absolutely refused to wear anything he didn't like... which, sadly, included most of the clothes he owned that would cover those oft-bitten areas. M'roft's dedication to looking fabulous was something Gwayloth could't change about him, but the blue could convince him to give in to reasonable requests now and then.
"It'll be humid and gross," M'roft pleaded. "Are you certain you can't just eat one of the domesticated ones?" The man's face was scrunched up into an expression of maximum displeasure, but Gwayloth was unphased. Absolutely. You ought to eat one or two as well. It will do wonders for your mood.
The blue's rider shrugged and sighed. "I suppose we can go if you really want to, but if I die of bug-bites you're going to be sorry. All this for a meal!"
Gwayloth snorted. You'd do as much or more for a handsome face. The dragon's mouth was open in his kind's equivalent of a grin.
M'roft had to admit that his blue had a valid point. He'd gone to great lengths before to secure brief, fleeting romances. By that logic he couldn't deny Gwayloth the feast he so desired. "Fine. We'll depart in a candlemark."
And so they had. The flight there was brief and calm; Gwayloth had deliberately selected this afternoon for their hunt because it was so nice out. M'roft knew it would be much steamier and less pleasant in the jungle, but the sooner they got there the sooner they could find Gwayloth his wherry and leave. As they descended, M'roft was certain he could hear the malicious thrum of insect wings headed directly for him. He scratched his neck unconsciously. "I hate insects, just so you're aware." He said.
They began their hunt by flushing out animals from the brush using Gwayloth's roar. This method worked to scare a few scrawny animals into the open, but nothing like the ideal meal Gwayloth was seeking...

Summer was in full swing and it was an unusually beautiful day, which of course, meant that Aoith was in exceptionally high spirits and had decided to drag Nic'ai on one of her many adventure quests/treasure hunts. Today, their destination had been the jungle.
Nic'ai sat on an overgrown log in what barely passed as a clearing while the little green wormed her way through the trees and growth, searching for anything that caught her eye. Her collection was spread out at Nic'ai's feet and included several rather pretty rocks and a browning leaf that had been bright green when she'd first entrusted it to Hers. It was unbearably hot underneath the canopy, encasing them in a natural greenhouse, but Aoith didn't seem to mind the heat. And Nic'ai...well, he loved to see his dragon happy, so he had compromised by stripping out of his shirt and taking shelter in a spot of direct sunshine...which in the jungle is slightly cooler than being under the filtered green light that penetrated the thick canopy.
Suddenly, a roar sounded in the distance and Nic'ai rolled his head towards the sound. He should have been worried, but it was far too humid and it was a ways off yet. Besides, it was probably a dragon, and if it wasn't, Aoith was small enough to make an escape upwards through the greenery. Speaking of the mischievious devil, the green half emerged into the open space, raising her head curiously. Delight whirled in her eyes and she let out an answering roar, sending several insects into the air and into the trees. She laughed merrily and turned towards Hers, carefully depositing her latest discovery on the growing pile. Isn't it pretty, Nic'ai'Mine?
"It's lovely, Aoi," Nic'ai agreed, casting a dubious eye at the item which seemed to be the remains of some sort of cocoon. He hoped that she would forget to bring that particular item home.

When three massive roars in quick succession failed to oust an adequately-sized wherry from the brush, Gwayloth began to be more than a little irritated. It certainly didn't help that M'roft was groaning and stomping so loudly; any animals within a radius of a few miles would be frightened away by that amount of noise. The blue had to give his rider some credit, since his hide was not thick and tough like a dragon's was... which tended to attract all sorts of unsavory insects. That aside, there was certainly no reason the man had to walk so loudly! With each step it sounded as if there was a full-grown herdbeast ambling along! Gwayloth spun his head around and glared at his rider. Could you not shake the ground when you move? It is scaring off my prey. He asked grumpily. M'roft stopped in his tracks and shrugged. "If the sharding bugs would stop chewing on my flesh, then yes." As he spoke there were no less than five insects whirring around his person. "It's not my fault that I'm delicious."
Gwayloth returned his attention to the hunt, unable to come up with a response that wouldn't be met with more sarcasm. He dipped his snout to the ground and inhaled deeply... and picked up a rather intriguing scent. Aoith is near. I did not know they were coming! Otherwise I would have offered her some of my kills, the blue explained. It is polite to give presents to the females, you know. M'roft chuckled and walked up beside his dragon. "Trying to woo the girls again, are we? Is she close to rising or something?" He asked. His blue swivelled his head around to look M'roft in the eye. No. Some of us are interested in more than just mating. Some of us like to be romantic. Gwayloth responded angrily.
"Well then, you'd best find something to give her. Otherwise you might look a bit foolish." M'roft suggested. Gwayloth considered this for a moment. Thus far he'd been unable to locate any ideally built wherries, but that didn't mean there weren't some good ones around. Perhaps it would be considered bad form to offer a green anything less than the best, but seeing as he'd not caught anything else...
The blue loosed another tremendous roar and sure enough, a small wild wherry scrambled out of the foliage. Gwayloth lurched forward and snapped up the winged creature, crunching its neck between his teeth and killing it. M'roft coughed awkwardly, caught between pride at his dragon's swiftness and revulsion at the blood seeping out from between the blue's teeth. "Well done," he offered weakly, "shall we locate your fair green? I wonder what sort of mood Nic'ai is in..."
Don't start. If you upset Nic'ai, Aoith will not want to be near me. Gwayloth scolded. His rider giggled. "Upset him? I think you'll find that most men I pursue enjoy the experience." The man started off in a random direction. "Let's go! Time's a-wasting!" His dragon shook his head and trotted off after him. As it happens, you are going the correct way. Do not startle them too badly, please.
M'roft had never been one not to make an entrance. As soon as Aoith and her rider--who looked handsome in this light--were in sight, he bounded towards them with a big grin on his face. "Ah, Nic'ai and Aoith! My favorite green pair! How's the jungle treating you?" Gwayloth slunk over to where the green was and dropped the wild wherry in front of her. I smelled that you were near and brought you something to eat. He offered.

Nic’ai jumped as M’roft leapt out of the growth at him, falling off his log, the slick moss streaking down his back as he slid to the jungle floor, a frown forming on his face. He didn’t like being snuck up on and he didn’t particularly care for the bluerider. Aoith loosed a soft hiss at the man, but was distracted by Gwayloth’s approach. His rider might have been a bit unsavory, but she happened to like the polite blue. At least, up until he dropped a freshly dead wherry onto her treasure pile. Aaah! she exclaimed, lifting the creature into her jaws, a sad look settling in her eyes. You broke my treasure! She nosed at the trampled remains of the cocoon she had just set down, making concerned, upset noises, the wherry still between her teeth. Some blood still drained from the thing and it filled her mouth, forcing her to swallow. A new delight whirled in her eyes as the hot liquid rolled down her throat. Oh, this is delicious! Thank you, Gwayloth! Happily, she curled down and started to crunch on the wherry.
Nic’ai’s face contorted in disgust as he watched his dragon munching on the creature. Feeling a bit nauseous at the sight, he turned away - and was reminded that M’roft was still there. “The jungle’s humid…like always. What’re you doing here?” He pushed himself to his feet, stooping over to pick up his shirt, shaking bits of insect cocoon off it. “If you were looking for company, I’m sorry…we were just about to leave.”
We were? Aoith jerked her head up, the wherry making a disturbing tearing sound as she pulled it apart. I wasn’t done treasure hunting, though. Can’t we stay?
“We should really go, Aoi.” Please.
But I want to stay here, Nic’ai’Mine. Gwayloth was so kind to bring me this. It would be rude to just leave without spending a few minutes visiting.
Nic’ai groaned, leaning against the green’s shoulder. You’re gonna get it if he tries anything, Aoi, he grumbled, casting a scathing look at the promiscuous bluerider.

He might be callous, even snide at times, but that didn't mean M'roft was unable to sense when others didn't exactly welcome his presence. Unfortunately for those individuals, this only meant he tried harder to be obnoxious and demanding. Nic'ai was clearly trying to avoid him, which made M'roft feel certain that the greenrider was intimidated. It was natural, of course, given that M'roft was a handsome man and not at all unknown around the Weyr. He'd left a long string of previous lovers behind him, and it was obvious that Nic'ai worried he'd be unable to stand out. Looking at the man, M'roft didn't see how that was a possibility. He was handsome himself, with a certain... something about him that rendered him very attractive. M'roft wasn't sure what that something was yet, but he was dying to find out. His new mission in life would be to woo Nic'ai... and he'd start by eliminating this avoidance nonsense. "Don't be silly," he approached, "we've only just got here. Gwayloth's been itching to eat some wild wherry lately and we thought we'd come out and hunt today. Have you eaten any? It's a bit too gamey for my taste, but then again... it's got an exotic texture." He licked his lips. "I prefer herdbeast, myself."
Seducing this fellow was going to be difficult. The look on Nic'ai's face said he knew something was amiss. That suited M'roft just fine... he did so like a challenge.
As his rider flirted, Gwayloth was shocked to discover he'd inadvertently upset Aoith. Apparently he'd set her present down on top of something she'd been working on... or found, he really couldn't tell now. I did not mean to break anything. I thought you would enjoy a snack. The wherries here are very tasty. He offered. Luckily for the blue, however, Aoith's opinion of his gift changed significantly when she actually tasted it. He rumbled happily as she savored the wherry, glad that she wasn't dead set on hating him. I am glad you like it. If you want, I can help you find more treasures. I would enjoy that.

Nic’ai knew when he was beaten, and being outvoted by his own dragon was a bit depressing. Traitor, he hissed at her, hanging his head. You’re too much trouble. It was true, and he’d known the moment he’d Impressed Aoith that she would bring such occurrences on him. She was a green; an especially easily flattered green at that; and most of the riders who rode male dragons were, themselves, very…well male. Nic’ai had made his peace that whenever Aoith Rose the chances were that he’d have to bed with another man. That did not, however, mean that he wanted to be pursued by them at any other time. In reality, he didn’t have much romantic interest at all, and he probably had his past to blame for that. Too many people who had gotten close to his emotions had died. A cruel darkness poked at him slightly; maybe it wasn’t a bad idea to humor M’roft then. He smirked at the twisted thought, though he almost completely regretted it. Almost. He really wasn’t a mean-spirited person, no matter how annoying the bluerider was. And Aoith was right. It would be rude to just leave, especially when Gwayloth at come bearing gifts…and had saved him the trouble of “losing” that disgusting cocoon. He had to at least repay that favor. Besides, if M’roft did get on his nerves too much or tried anything, Nic’ai could handle himself. He was a giant of a man, despite his more slender build, and these years as a rider had made him even stronger.
At the idea of more treasure hunting, Aoith’s tail began to wag like a canine’s and her eyes whirled with rapid delight. I would like that, Gwayloth, she crooned. Unfortunately, someone else objected to that idea. Cobalt popped out of between, lighting between his big-mother’s head knobs and glaring at Gwayloth. The little blue always had a feeler out, connected to Aoith’s emotions, and he had started to get jealous at the happiness she was feeling. She was his green-mother and who was this big-cousin to try and woo her? Angrily the firelizard started chattering angrily at the larger blue, squawking in alarm as he tripped and rolled down Aoith’s face. She caught his tail in her teeth, chuckling, and after a moment of surprise, he continued his chastising, being ignored as Aoith turned and led the way into the jungle depths, the young flitter still hanging from her jaws.

Gwayloth eyed the little blue who'd popped out from between curiously. He didn't seem to welcome another male in Aoith's presence, though his instinct to protect her was admirable in one so small, so the larger blue didn't take offense. Aoith seemed unphased by the flitter's antics and led Gwayloth into the jungle, where they'd undoubtedly find more of her treasures. It was the least the blue could do after accidentally destroying her old hoard... they might even find more of the delicious wild wherries about!
What sort of treasures are you looking for? Shiny things? I don't think there are too many of those in the jungle, but I will help you anyway. He said happily.
Out of the corner of his eye, Gwayloth spied a very colorful flower. What about that? I think it is pretty.
To M'roft's delight, Nic'ai didn't seem too put-off by his advances. As much as he enjoyed pursuing a challenging quarry, it was far easier to bed men who wanted it. Nic'ai hadn't insinuated that he wanted it yet, but if M'roft had any hand in the matter, he'd definitely be wanting it soon. To that end, M'roft loosened his tunic and exposed his collarbones. In the heat of the jungle, his body was covered in sweat. He'd see if Nic'ai was the type to be won by such measures... if not, he was fully prepared to change his game. He had plenty of practice at this.
"So..." he breathed, "Aoith due to rise soon? She's in good color."

I like shiny things, Aoith agreed. But I like soft things, and interesting things, and pretty things. She paused, twisting her neck to set Cobalt on her shoulder and the blue scrambled up to his perch on her head, staring hard at Gwayloth. Aoith thrummed in amusement, looking when Gwayloth pointed out the flower. Oh! That IS pretty! She started towards it, but Cobalt jumped between, leaving a whoosh of cold air over her head, and reappeared next to the plant. He took the base of the stem in his teeth and severed it, flying awkwardly to his big-mother, preening as though the flower had been his find from the start. Thank you, Cobalt, Aoith laughed, lowering her head so that the little blue would have less trouble with his burden. And thank you, Gwayloth. You are very good at treasure-hunting. Let's see what else we can find. We should have some time before your rider angers my Nic'ai too much.
-------------------------------------------------------
Aoith clearly had more faith in Nic'ai than he did. He was currently sitting across the clearing from M'roft, both frustrated and relieved that he had left his knives secured to Aoith's harness. A sour expression twisted his features as he glowered at the bluerider, who obviously was immune to subtlety. Well, if tact wasn't going to work, he might as well be blunt. "I've no intention of ever bedding with you, M'roft. Especially not outside of a Flight. Save yourself the effort and chase someone else." With M'roft, even being direct and concise probably wouldn't work, but at least there'd be no chance of his own actions being misconstrued as coyness. And until Aoith returned, the best he could do would be to sit there in his rigid discomfort and beat the ever-loving daylights out of the bluerider if he tried anything.
