You heard Hikari! Tamith called out to the group of other dragons and riders that had been gathered for this trip. Tamith stood there proudly as the biggest dragon there and as the Weyrleader.

The sands are getting too shallow for Mertiath's eggs. We must go and fetch more so that the young can hatch. Now on me! Tamith called as he and his rider flew into the air. His brown wings stroking downward and his neck craned over his shoulder to make sure they were in formation.

Orvoth was to his right with Duntoth to his left. Then Elnath and Erementh followed by Gwayloth and Cheleighgamenth. Then he looked forward and gave them their reference before the whole group blinked between that morning.

It took a few hours of flying from the lake. All heads be they blue, brown or bronze swivled as they looked down and the various vallies for the sand that would be just right for the eggs that Tamith had sired.

Over there. Orvoth called calmly and gave the mental picture to Tamith. Tamith then banked to the right and the group landed in the valley. The sand beneath their feet warmed by the sun and the golden grains were not too fine to become dirt and not to course that it was filled with rocks and points that could harm the eggs.

While the others examined the sand Tamith looked about. They had not gotten as far as he had thought. They had done a sweep that had turned them around in a circle and not they were apparently just behind the Weyr.

K'len and L'teon started to unload the bags that they had brought along. Each dragon could carry two or three no problem so each dragon and rider pair had brought a sack.

"So we need to get these filled up quickly! Everyone start filling up a bag!" K'len handed everyone a bag then started to get to work himself. Tamith was too distracted by the mountians to help.

((So I will be the one in charge of this. I want everyone to post before I continue with this plot. I will let you know any detials as we go along because I dont want to spoil anything XD))

Erementh huffed, landing near Tamith with a heavy thud. Ahote couldn't figure out why Erementh wanted to go. This was a job for Dragons that could move about easily with their front legs, not for a Dragon that, as much as they might deny it, was a cripple. I am just as useful as the others! You'll see! He snorted and hopped his way over to the small lake in the valley. He was about to hop into the sand when Ahote suddenly slapped his shoulder and yelped almost frantically. "Erementh! If you fall over in that then we'll never get you out! You know what the sands were like when you hatched! You could hardly get up! And now you're much heavier so it would be worse!" The Blue paused and tilted his head, staring down at the sand that he was just inches from. No I don't remember, but okay. With a huff Erementh sank down on his haunches, and if it weren't for the riding straps Ahote would have tumbled off backwards. "Erementh!" Sorry. Erementh's voice was rich with amusement and Ahote elbowed the blue's wing. "No you're not."

With a chuckle Ahote unfastened his straps and leaped off the Blue's back onto the ground, landing in a crouching position so as to not damage his knees. "I'm sure Mertaith and Hikari will appreciate this. The sands were looking rather lacking the last time I checked." Ahote took a few of the offered bags from Kn'len and began filling them sand, using a small shovel he brought to help with the task. "I wonder what's out here."

(here goes nothing. Sorry for any grammatical errors - I'm on an iTouch)

Chel and Q'ntin glided down to the fine, warm sand, skidding through it as the bronze exhibited a rare playful mood. He was always willing to do things to win him a spot in Mertaith's good graces. "This is good sand," Q'ntin commented, stooping over to sift his fingers through it. "Don't you think, Chel?" The bronze just rumbled, plowing his upper body through the sand, making a mess of himself. His rider laughed. "Use some of that power to help me fill these sacks for Mertaith and Hikari."

Kn'len looked around to see his small but hard working team at work. Orvoth was helping Ayana to fill her bags as fast as possible while duntoth made it harder for L'teon as the brown kept playing with the bags. However Tamith was still looking at the mountains.

What's up? Kn'len asked. Tamith snorted.

I think I can see tunnels in the mountains. They are only partially there but they look big enough to fit a dragon. Some of them are much bigger and could surely hold a large bronze. Tamith tilted his head down to his rider. We also don't have enough rooms for Our children. We should check them out and look to see if I am correct. We do need the room. Even the weyr Orvoth shares with his is just right for him but there would not be enough room for two. It would get a little cramped. We need the space.

Kn'len looked and could make out some darker areas in the mountains, could they be tunnels? They still had some drills and such left over, and Tamith was right. More weyrs were neeeeded.

"Everyone! There has been a slight change of plans." Kn'len looked and all the bags they had brought were filled. "Tamith has spotted what look like tunnels in the mountains. Those mountains are also right behind out home and we need the space for the clutch since it does get cramped when two dragons have to share a weyr and they are not mated. Ahote! Load up Erementh as fast as you can and bring that sand to Mertaith, Ayana and L'teon help him out so that he can go pronto. Then load up your dragons with the remaining eight bags while Erementh takes three of them. Q'ntin, I want you and Chel to come with Tamith and I for now. Once the sand has been delivered Ayana I want you to come back and help us do some scouting. Understood?" He looked around at the people and they were already doing what was asked of them.

Ayana and L'teon each strapped on a bag of sand while Ahote did the third and once they were done they went to deal with their dragons.

"So how many will you take? Duntoth can carry four bags as far as I know." L'teon asked.

The bags are very heavy. The brown stated as L'teon loaded up one already. Trying to do more than four would be a bit much. They are not only heavy but huge! Duntoth snorted as he leaned down to make it easier on his rider.

I agree. Four for each of us will be plenty. We don't want to push ourselves. Orvoth also kneeled down to make it easier on Ayana.

"Thanks big blue." She started to strap on the three other bags.

Once the two rders were all loaded up they took to the sky and were just going to fly straight to their home. It would be better to get some reference points.

"Are you ready?" Kn'len asked the bronzerider in a concerned tone. He was not totally sure what they would find but desperate times called for desperate measures. Kn'len hopped onto Tamith's back and they flew the short distance to the mountains. It was more like a hop than anything but it was better than walking the whole way.

The Weyrleader jumped down from his dragon and looked around and spoke before the other rider could jump down.

"I will do this section that goes underground. I would like it if you could check the higher levels."

Event Admin

(Due to some changes in the Staff department this plot thread will be finished up with the Event Admin account and moved along.)

As the Dragons and their Riders began to explore the caves things became obvious that it would take the drills to finish them out. Some of the caverns were too small to fit even a Green, but the rock was made of sandstone, and though sandstone was sometimes brittle this was reinforced by limestone here and there. An odd combination, but it would be easy on the drills while at the same time sturdy, though a support column may need to be used here and there. Being directly opposite of the existing Weyr would made it a simple matter of drilling through the mountain to make tunnels for riders and non-dragonriding folk.

As time passed the Dragons and their Riders began to feel more and more like something, or someone, was watching them, and they would occasionally hear the faint scuffling of feet behind them. But everytime they would turn around to look they didn't see anything.

An hour or two passed, and one of the Bronzes (NPC) on the expedition team was in one of the deeper caverns that would probably be used for non dragonriding residents. There was a faint mewling, and both he and his rider approached. As they moved down the tunnels they grew too dark to see. The Bronze, having firestone in his gut from practice earlier, let loose a blast of flame to ignite the area.

FELINES! Dozens and dozens of them all guarding a group of females and their litters! They were gaunt and sickly looking, but there were so many of them that the Bronze's eyes went stark white in fear. EVERYONE GET OUT! GET OUT OF THE CAVES! NOW! FELI- The Bronze's frantic warnings were cut off by the bloodcurdling scream of a dieing Dragon. It echoed through the halls, and the heads of all the riders and Dragons instinctively turned towards the source of the scream.

Those that didn't escape the caverns... would die, and it wouldn't stop there.

The culling had begun.

Erementh and Ahote had left for the Weyr to deliver their sand along with the other Blue and Brown. They were quick to return, and quick to dive into the caves. They weren't in the caves for very long, as the Dragons that had remained behind had been exploring for much longer. So it wasn't long until the dieing scream of a Dragon reached their ears.

Erementh froze at the scream, his own eyes going white in fear when a chorus of feline roars and cackle-like grunts echoed through the caverns. He trembled with fear and let out a child-like wail. Ahote we have to get out of here! Take me away! Sinstrath is dead! They killed him! They killed him! Dead dead deaddeaddeaddea-

"Erementh get ahold of yourself!" Ahote smacked his hand across the Dragon's face, shocking the Blue into simply trembling and backing against a wall. This had been a bad idea, a bad, bad, bad idea! Get me out of here Ahote! Pleasepleaseplease. For once in his life his criippledness scared the Blue into nearly jumping into between to escape, the only thing that kept him from doing so was Ahote's steadying presence and calming hand.

"Don't worry, we'll get out of here. The exit is that way." Ahote pointed down one of the tunnels and the pair immediately ran for the exit. Erementh looked quiet like a basilisk lizard, rearing up and flinging his legs out to run. Fortunately they weren't too deep in the tunnels, and they soon emerged, the sound of Dragons roaring and riders screaming following them. "Up! Up into the air Erementh! We have to warn the Weyr!" With a half bugle half scream of fear Erementh launched himself into the air, barely giving Ahote enough time to leap onto the Blue's shoulder and scramble up into a sitting position.

The two then leaped between, taking the risk of picturing the middle of the hatching sands.

Just like Kn'len and Tamith had asked, Q'ntin and Cheleighgamenth were scouting out the higher tunnels. As such, they were relatively safe compared to their comrades farther down. Not that that did anything to calm their panic and anger. Rather it sent them into overdrive as they rushed into the sunlight, the bronze barely allowing his rider time to mount before shooting down in a tight dive, landing warily outside the mouth of the cave the others fled from. When the last of the dragons exited, Chel sent a small spurt of flame down into the tunnel, backing away as he flamed. Hopefully he could drive the felines back enough to buy time for the others (and with any amount of luck himself) to get airborne.

"Fly to the Weyr! Warn Mertaith and Hikari!" Chel and Q'ntin barked their orders in unison, neither one caring that they weren't in charge. That didn't really matter at the moment. Hell, were they a bronzepair, or weren't they? If they couldn't ensure everyone's safety then what right did they have to call themselves a dragon and a dragonrider?

"Get in the air, Chel," Q'ntin urged as the bronze spurted another tongue of fire. Both knew that he didn't have much left, and the bronzerider gave a sigh of relief as his dragon's wings started flapping, lifting them off the ground before the bright flame vanished. "Hurry."

Chel gave an angry bugle as he climbed higher into the sky, finally blinking between, barely managing to hold on to the image of the Weyr that Q'ntin fed him.

~An old QueenRider had a weyr, E-I-E-I-O!~ Why those letters mine?

I don't know, love.

~And in her weyr she had a blue! E-I-E-I-O!~

Elnath, my heart, what are you doing?

Singing of course! ~With a sniff, sniff here, and a scrub, scrub there!~ Oh that is a good idea Mine. When we get home I'd like a nice bath.

Of course dearest.

~Here a sniff, there a scrub, everywhere a scrub, scrub!~ I really do love this song mine, such an ingenious thing. The big blue goofball finally stopped singing for a moment, but that was only because he was doing exactly what his song had suggested. He was sniffing at one of the rocks fairly deep in the cave system the dragon pairs were exploring. Elnath had paused, a curious thing for him, and that made his rider stop and glance over, even though she could barely see his form in the gloom.

What is it, Elnath? Dysis asked him, her thoughts hushed despite the fact that no one else could hear her.

I don't know exactly... There is a funny smell here. After another quick sniff, the blue began a small dance of nerves. I don't like it, Mine. I don't like it. Can we go? I want to go home. We can go home now, righ---

The pleading was cut off by a scream. A panicked, shaky, terror wracked scream. It was accompanied by another, purely silent scream of terror that echoed in the girl's mind. Elnath! Calm down! You're going to hurt yourself! He didn't listen. Pausing only long enough to snatch up a mouthful of his rider's clothes. The blue then proceeded to rampage through the ever lightening tunnels, his more acute eyesight proving him better then hers ever could. It was definitely a jangle of nerves and bones by the time Elnath spread his wings and glided out of the cave. He paused only long enough to drop His and let the woman climb upon his back.

Felines! That's what that smell was. I'm going hoooooooooooome! For once the blue didn't even look back to check on the others. He simply popped between.
