Michael Bay is completely ruining people's childhoods by destroying the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, by changing their origin story and replacing it with "They're aliens." http://popwatch.ew.com/2012/03/19/michael-bay-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-aliens/ Posted Image |

His first Transformers movie was at least enjoyable simply for the sake of seeing robots kick the crap out of each other. Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon were horrendous though, Fallen especially. |

I hate the expression "ruining my childhood", because your childhood is in the past and you can't change the past. Unless you have a time machine...But I do agree that Michael Bay need to stop this thing, but he wont. Why? BECAUSE WE KEEP SEEING HIS MOVIES! He's just looking at the numbers, ain't no business like show business, right? So if you stop paying to see his movies, he'll see that he fucked up and will probably stop releasing stupid movies. And yes, if Michael Bay had access to a time machine he would indeed use it to travel back in time and ruin your childhood. |

I think the phrase "Ruining my childhood" is more referring to memories. |

The problem is you're taking the expression too literally. Certainly, one's childhood cannot be altered once it is over. However, our perception of our childhood can change. We can look back and see things in the past in a different light than we could at the time, and in this sense our perception of childhood can be enhanced or "ruined." For example, say your father was often absent for long periods of time in your childhood, but as a child you understood him to be on buisiness trips around the world making money and being successful. You may not have seen him much, but you have a few cherished memories of time you spent together, and you hold them fondly. Now, imagine always viewing your childhood this way, but when you're 18 you find out that your father was actually a convicted serial rapist and was imprisoned on and off throughout your childhood. Now, the happy times you shared are indeed unchangeable events, but how you remember them will now always be tainted by the father you thought you knew. In this sense your childhood can be ruined, not literally, but in how you remember it. Also it's just a phrase, not really a huge deal. |
