You Looking At Me?

Has anybody else seen The Hunger Games? The movie takes place in a post apocalyptic United States in the fiction country of Panem. Because of a revolution in the capitol 74 years before the movie takes place, every year each of the 12 districts have to send a boy and girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to play in the Hunger Games in a last man standing fight to the death. The movie follows Katniss Everdeen, a 16 year old girl from Panem's poorest district, District 12. I saw the movie Sunday, I liked it overall, but because i read the books first so to me it was no where near as good as the books. The main problem i ad were the inaccuracies that i will explain later. The first mistake they made was the mocking jay pin. In the book, Madge, the mayors daughter, brought the pin to Katniss. In the movie, Katniss buys it and gives it to Prim before the reaping, then Prim gives it back before the games start. The second error i found was the misuse of the phrase "May the odds ever be in your favor". In the book it is said twice, in the woods between Gale and Katniss, and at the reaping by Effie. In the movie, it seems to me like the phrase is used every where it can be. Another thing i found was that Seneca Crane's death. In the book, it is never stated what happens, in the movie however he was forced to eat nightlock berries. This is not a complaint, but a welcomed addition to me. Another thing that took me by surprise was Rue, Cinna and Thresh were all black. THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT!!! I just want to make that clear, it surprised me, i didn't expect them to be black. Now to the actors themselves. One last complaint was a production issue, the camera at times seemed like the cameraman was running with the camera making it hard to follow. I thought that Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson did better than i could have ever imagined as Katniss and Peeta. Lenny Kravitz played Cinna just as i imagined him out of the book. Woody Harrelson was great playing the drunk mentor from district 12 known as Haymitch Abernathy. Liam Hemsworth, in the little screen time he got played a great gale, looking like i thought gale would have. Wesley Bennett played Seneca Crane, the head gamekeeper well, but i think he got to much airtime. Overall while I would give the book a 11/10 the movie deserves a solid 9/10. |

I thought they did a great job with the movie. I never had a problem with the camera and I thought the casting was phenomenal (also the girl who played Katniss is from my city! :) ) Rue was decried as a black girl in the book by the way. |

Eh, I started to read the first book but gave up, really didn't find it all that interesting. Saw the movie with a few friends and really wasn't a fan. I felt that without reading the books the movie was lacking with backstory, so the whole "Hunger Games" event seemed to be rather sudden and didn't really move me. According to my friends who have read the books, there's a whole lot of backstory and meaning to the country as a whole, and I really didn't get that desperation and enslaved vibe that would've made it more poignant. I know the movie tried, it was just too rushed and unorganized to really get these emotions across. Solid movie, just didn't quite reach the level it was hoping for. |

I know my mom wants to see this with me, but we probably won't be able to go until it's in the dollar theater in a few months. I heard it's pretty good, though. Besides the shaky cam. Read the first book yesterday after ripping it off the internet, and I quite liked it, but it wasn't as mind-blowing as everyone seems to say it is. Maybe that's because I've already given my heart away to a messed-up future series, (not exactly dystopian) but besides the shock value of the graphic descriptions it holds a firm place even with how I feel about the Harry Potter series for me. |

Loved the book series. The second and third books are leagues better than the first one. I found the first one a little dull at points, but the next two I was just like, "AGH, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!" Then my friend spoilt the ending on Mockingjay and I wanted to strangle her for it, but that's another story. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie as well, but they missed out on a few major things from the book that I'm not sure how they're going to explain in the next movie. I liked how they showed stuff that was happening outside of Katniss' perspective, like Haymitch getting the sponsors, and explaining the tracker-jackers in the television show instead of Katniss' narration. I felt it was a pretty good way to get around having Katniss narrate the story like she does in the book. I'll be off to watch it for a second time tonight, whoop whoop. My biggest pet peeve is that they got somebody ugly to play Peeta. WHYYYY?! ;_; |

Haha, didn't need that, I looked it all up on Wikipedia. 8) Hmm, I wonder if there's been a time when I haven't wanted something spoiled for me. |

Finished seeing the movie for the second time. Still awesome. Peeta is less ugly the second time around. ...but he's still pretty ugly. :p Edited by fantanoice, Mar 31 2012, 10:20 AM.

D'aww, how can you find Peeta ugly? :P Josh Hutcherson is simply adorable! He doesn't look as attractive blonde, though. |

Is it just me, or was Gale's entire role throughout the movie based around him looking sad at the camera? :P |

Well it makes sense. They didn't really elaborate on Gale's relationship with Katniss in the movie. It was just a couple of scenes. For all we know, they could've been cousins (hah!). Perhaps him looking upset made it more obvious that he has a romantic interest in her. And, in all honesty, if my best friend was going through that, I'd be looking pissed 99% of the time too. |
