Are you a PS3 owner? What will you predict the fate of the PS3 to be? It has a pretty strong Nvidia card and durable hardware. While the PS4 will attempt to be a step up, I'm sure that as long as the PS3's line the shelves, game developers will take advantage of the machine. It has enough to hold up for a while. Let's not forget that PS2's are still being manufactured. :P |

you've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?

I'm not particularly worried about the PS3. PS2's were being manufactured until last year, a full six years after the PS3 released, and the PSone lasted a long while into the PS2's life cycle too. More or less, we'll probably just see the same case as the PS2 where we'd continue to see cross-generational sports games or something on the PS2; after all, we kept on seeing MLB: The Show games on the PS2 until 2011. |

I don't reaaaaaaaaaaaally know but everything you just said in the original post pretty much defends my massive indifference to the fate of the ps3. It'll probably be around for a bit longer even after the ps4 comes out. If not only for the fact the ps3 is now something familiar to developers but also because the ps4 will take some time getting used to and out on the market. Besides. I go to the console where the games are. If the ps3 stops being popular or developed for that doesn't mean the games won't go somewhere else. I am not married to my ps3... |

Like the above posts suggest, it'll still live. Games will probably continue to be coming out for the PS3 while the PS4 is out. It's a sort of transitional phase I suppose. |

Like the previous PS systems it will live for a few years after the PS4 and then die off. Though make no mistake the PS3 will not live as long as the PS2 did. |

That's assuming that Sony doesn't mess up like with the PS3 release. |

Well the ps3 has many games that I still enjoy to play, but it will definitely be more obsolete once the ps4 comes out. The ps3 graphics are pretty outdated already, which I don't really care about, but it will still be obsolete I think. It won't have the success the ps2 still had when the ps3 came out.

I just feel the PS3 never achieved the greatness the PS2 game library had. Obviously the PS2 was outdated but lived long after the PS3. Games sell consoles, not graphics. |

The PS3 will more than likely continued to be supported for some time. It will probably be supported, more than the Xbox 360 and Wii even if what we saw last gen repeats itself. Also DS, the PS3 had pleanty of good games on it. God of War, Uncharted, Grand Turismo, etc. I think it has a great library of games that rival the PS2's. |

Yeah, the way that Sony started with the PS3, with the hefty price tag and the over-emphasis on power, just wasn't a great way to start. I mean, granted, they're ending the PS3's cycle on a very high note by releasing some quality console exclusives, along with the emergence of PS+, but a couple years back, I just saw no real reason to get a PS3 because, 1) Sony had been making some pretty bone-headed moves (and also the whole security fiasco with Anonymous didn't help matters), and 2) from a social aspect, the 360 was a better choice for me because all of my friends have 360s, and almost nobody had a PS3.
