RUNESCAPE LEGEND
|
Scottien's Tanking Guide Tanking in Runescape is an art in itself however the most common misconceptions is that you need amazing skills to be a good tank. This is 80% false as tanking is mainly based upon your reaction to being piled. In order to be more aware and to become a better tank you need to have sounds on so that you can hear when you are being attacked. Another common misconception is that a good tank drags the opponents pile across the minimap. However, at times this will be doing more damage than good. If the opponent has high options and good binds, you will be a more effective tank if you hug their meelee around a single object instead of dragging them. If you try and drag them and get bound with all of their options on you it is likely you aren't going to tank to no food. Make sure you have surround sounds off otherwise you will hear all the sounds from around you and not just the sounds applicable to your character. When you are piled by the opposing team you will then need to utilize your tanking skills in order to stay alive for longer. There are a large amount of complex methods that you can use to assist you, some of which I will be covering later however these are the main points that you should be doing as soon as you are piled. The most important rule to tanking is that of below:- <!> ALWAYS CLICK YOUR QUICKPRAYERS FIRST <!> Order of tanking ■Turn on your quickprayers. ■Equip staff/rune for increased defence bonus. ■Switch back to inventory screen and be ready to eat. ■Hug and drag your opponents around objects (covered later). ■Equip green d-hide body when you have your opponents hugged and turn on mage pray to avoid binds. ■Equip rune plate body and turn on melee pray when your enemy closes in on you again. ■If you are taking alot of damage quickly, you can eat the first half of your pizzas in very quick succession to regain max hp within a few seconds. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HBpXYLO_AQw&feature=relatedThis video will help you with understanding this. ■ALWAYS KEEP YOUR HITPOINTS ABOVE 85%. ■Keep this up as long as possible until you die or until they switch piles. [size0]Hugging & Dragging Definitions: Hugging:The art of trapping your opponent behind an object to put distance between you and them. Dragging:This is defined as running over a large distance after hugging an opponent in order to drain their run. There are some technical aspects to master the art of hugging which I will explain to you now. You need to be aware of the number of different successful routes that you can use within centre bounds on the clan wars arena. If you don't use the correct path then you leave yourself completely exposed and could lose a large amount of HP or even die. You also need to vary the path in which you take around the obstacles or your opponent will be able to predict your movements and you lose your advantage over them, therefore, read and study the below paths and use a variety of them whilst you are tanking. One of the most important aspects is regarding walking/running. You should not use your run as soon as you get it, use it in spurts by using CNTRL+CLICK which will make your character run to a specific spot. Walk up to areas where you want to get your enemy stuck (marked in green on the diagrams below) and then run just before them which will trap them behind the object and give you some distance between you, you should then switch to green d-hide top and mage pray to prevent binds before switching back to rune platebody and melee pray when they close in.[/p] CWA Examples of hugging/dragging ![]() Method 1 ![]() This is the main path choice when tanking and is extremely successful. Make sure that you vary your location from east to west to put the other team off though Method 2 ![]() This path is less common but is extremely effective. Make sure that you have around 20-30% run left before attempting this and run just before you hit the corner before the big straight section which will trap your enemy behind the wall and put a large amount of distance between you. Switch to green d-hide and mage pray to avoid being binded in the middle and then switch back to normal afterwards. Method 3 ![]() This path like before is less common but very effective, again you need around 20-30% run energy and you need to utilize the rock between the two walls. Make sure that you approach the rock walking and walk around it properly, when you have them hugged run off towards your next wall switching to your green d-hide and mage pray to avoid being binded in the process PVP Examples of hugging/dragging There are so many objects within PVP wars that you can use to hug and tank around that there is no way that I can cover all of them in this guide, however I will try and cover the main areas and give you examples of how you can use objects to your advantage in order to extend the length of your tank. Method 1/Location 1 ![]() This is just a simple west tree tank. As you can see, you can use the tree as the first object, hugging off the melee as you drag off east towards the rocks in order to hug them off once again. I love tanking these rocks as it is extremely easy to hug around them and doesn't require accurate clicking. Method 2/Location 2 ![]() This tanking location is also extremely effective. This is the transition from spiders to spider vents (Or V1 as CR calls it). As you can see you can hug off on a very simple collection of rocks before transitioning south east into the vents which are one of the best places to tank and hug off your attackers other than GDZ. Once inside the vents you can just run around them in a random direction and easily hug them off. I'd avoid leaving this location once you get here unless you think you can get a decent drag off as it is a very effective object to hug around. Method 3/Location 3 ![]() This is just another simple tree to rock tank. As you can see, you can use the tree as the first object, hugging off the melee as you drag off east towards the rocks in order to hug them off once again. I love tanking these rocks as it is extremely easy to hug around them and doesn't require accurate clicking. Method 4/Location 4 ![]() WELCOME TO GDZ - THE HOME OF THE HERO TANKER If you are anywhere near this location when you are piled, you should immediately tank in that direction. Once you are inside GDZ, there are so many objects to tank around and paths to tank. If you have very high run, you can loop inside and outside of the walls, hugging and trapping your opponents all over the area and allowing you to tank for an extremely long amount of time as well as draining the opposition's run considerably as well as their morale. This is where you can get some extremely great tanks off and it takes a very good pile to stop you from tanking where. Make sure to keep looping inside and outside to have maximum effect EATING The absolutely essential item for f2p tanking is the Anchovy Pizza. These are the highest-healing food on free to play, restoring 9 hp per slice (2 slices per pizza), and also faster to eat than standard food such as lobsters or swordfish. First halves of pizzas are much faster to eat than standard food, although the second halves are normal speed. Take a look at these 2 clips of eating inventories to see the differences ![]() ![]() Eating Pizza first halves: 540 hp per minute Eating Swordfish: 461 hp per minute As you can clearly see it is much better to use anchovy pizzas. If eating pizzas at this speed, it takes over 13 damage per second to KO you, whereas only 9 damage per second is needed to KO you eating swordfish at perfect speed.
