I re-examined the codex entries, and it turns out that it doesn't directly state that Quarians get a ship when they leave on Pilgrimage...more of an implication. Fortunately, even if that means I might not get one for free, I could perhaps buy this model later, assuming it's balanced. Quarian Personal Transport Skiff A very small but swift ship capable of travel between mass relays and solar systems, the Skiff is generally triangular in shape, with the sharp triangular cockpit in front. There is room for only one seat in the front, the pilot's, behind which there is another seat. The passenger seat can be retracted to make room for cargo, allowing ~1,000 kilograms to be transported rather than another person. The engines are located in the back, with some vitals below the cockpit, also allowing extra room for installations. In general the ship is quite miniature (similar in size but slightly smaller than the transport shuttle you use on Ilium to recruit Samara and Thane). Its paint is a dark yet quite shiny gray, with yellow borders around the twin engines and opaque black cockpit. The Skiff can accelerate and decelerate at top-notch speeds, allowing for speedy getaways and daredevil maneuvering. However, it is not equipped with heavy armor, only enough to let it survive some hits and be mostly immune to small-arms fire. It also has no weapons, aside from ramming, which is nearly always useless without any extra armor. As the name implies, the point is transport rather than combat. The cockpit opens upward to allow the pilot and passenger/cargo to get in or out, and fuel use is pretty efficient. The Skiff can be upgraded with a plethora of modifications from ship retailers and redesigners, allowing it to be competent in combat, a full-fledged cargo ship, or any number of evolutions. However, the base design doesn't have many features and only really works for one person at a time. The Skiff is used mostly by Quarians alone, since the ship provides for most of their needs on Pilgrimage--Such as the reclining seat allowing for a place to sleep. The moddability is also ideal for their purposes, but most other races dislike the concept of paying extra to upgrade a ship after it's bought. Quarians don't have the affluence or good fortune to have any other options, so the Personal Transport Skiff is a common and popular model among the race. |
