And there went Toad-Man; the last of the fourth rebellion. Well, that meant almost all of the forces of good had deviated back to their old ways. "Who have I been trying to kid?!" Heart-Man bawled to himself. "I'm a Coda Robot! Everyone will always hate me, no matter what I do! I've done nothing but terrible things...terrible things are all I can do!" His siblings could take a hint. With some brief nodding amongst themselves, they silently went back to the storage room to deposit their weapons, heads hung low. --- Shorde clapped once, impressed with how swiftly she had completed her work. "Excellent! Show us everything you managed to retrieve." |

Dynamite: Well... More or less everything was broken completely. The only working thing I found was this. She held out a tool of some sort, though it was not clear what it was for. |

Shorde looked at the tool for about thirty seconds. Then recalled that if they didn't know what it was, there was no way he would. "Well, I'd hold on to it...it might be important later. "Now, I know the situation looks bleak...but I need you all to gather around for a second so I can tell you all something very important about this world. Trust me, it'll be to our benefit later on. Huddle in close, now, I don't want any of Wily's forces to be able to hear this." Shorde went ahead and sat cross-legged on the ground. The girl robot did the same, and Shorde waited for the women to follow suit. |

"It is," Shorde said with a smile, "it could be what saves your lives or seals your fate out here." "Before I begin, it's time for a bit of a history lesson. Believe it or not, this is far from the first time Mobius has had to deal with an attack--we once had to deal with a crackpot mad doctor not unlike yours. He would build huge armies of robots, motorized vehicles, and mechs--but he would always be stopped by a figure in blue. I never bothered to ask his name, but he sort of looks like me, except...y'know, blue. Anyway, that's not important, what's important is the final showdown--it would always come down to this blue figure and the mad doctor's biggest, most destructive creation of all. Many times, it was thought impossible to destroy--but every time, the blue figure would destroy it using the powers of the most powerful artifacts in the land--The Chaos Emeralds. "This is what I've been trying to tell you about--the Chaos Emeralds. Simply seven beautifully cut gems that can come in any color to the untrained eye, but you'll know one when you find one--you can literally feel the energy waves coming off of it. The Chaos Emeralds have enormous power sealed inside them, and that power magnifies itself when more than one is in the same place. "Without proper programming, the Chaos Emeralds are only a threat to Robots--when overexposed to the waves of power they naturally produce, they can malfunction and shut down. On the other hand, Chaos Emeralds are quite useful to bio-forms and to machinery that have been converted to run off of their power. Individually, Chaos Emeralds can be used to power machinery, charge weaponry, and amplify Chaos Powers--special powers sort of like magic that only certain Mobians can perform. "But best and most fearsome of all is when one person holds all seven of the Chaos Emeralds at once--if they accomplish this great feat, they can enter what is best described by its name--a Super Form. In this state, the user is rendered completely invincible; no attack can hurt them. In addition, this state lends a variety of other powerful physical attributes--being able to run faster, jump higher, you know. Lastly, magical powers are always lent by a Super Form. What they are depends on who you are. There is one major drawback--staying in Super Form tires out the wielder of the Emeralds so quickly, sometimes they black out after only a few minutes." "So like I said, these items would be very dangerous in the hands of Dr. Wily. The Chaos Emeralds were sealed away for safe-keeping twenty years ago, but somehow, I don't think their rest will be for too much longer. So, if you see something you suspect may be a Chaos Emerald...take it and bring it back to me at all costs. Understood?" |

ProtoMan moved to the next car. All there was this time was just a Ratton and a MetMK5000. He kicked the Ratton off the train and when he turned around he shot the MetMK5000 and moved to the next car. |

Shade Man was waiting in that next car, hanging from the ceiling in the dark. He was preparing to ambush Proto Man. --- Dive Man looked over the teleporters, trying to see if he could fix them. Of course, it was a little confusing. He called a Dompan over and asked him if Bright Man could come and help. "Oh, Bright Man's not here sir." "What? Fine, get me Magnet Man." "He's not here either." "Volt Man?" "Nope." "Where are they then?" "Dr. Wily's Army sir." At that, Dive Man stood up, and looked at the small robot. "Funny joke, bud. Now, answer me seriously." "I did. Heart Man seemed to have said something, and they all walked away." Dive Man's eye twitched, and his face grew red. "He... he did what?!" "All gone, sir." At that, Dive Man stormed out of the room, kicked the lab's front door open, and shouted- "HEART MAN!!" - so loudly it could be heard from the hospital. |

"Not exactly," Shorde explained. "It is true that the energy waves they emit can be harmful to robots, but they will never kill--if your circuits are overloaded by the power, you'll automatically shut off before you blow up. Even then, the energy waves emitted are often so weak, you need not worry about them if it's just one--a good cause for panic would be four or more. Just bring it back to me if you think it is one, and I'll make sure it can't damage you." Shorde picked up a piece of debris and threw it in discontent. "If we found one, I'd let you go back to your builders and have them make you Chaos Energy-compatible...if your teleporter wasn't broken, that is." --- Dr. Coda's creations--save Fire Wall--were all sitting around in the lobby, in a circle of chairs that had formed itself. They dared not speak to each other, dared not say "Remember when--", because at that moment of ultimate bleakness, it seemed there was nothing good to remember. Even Wire-Man was quiet, and he wasn't supposed to feel any emotions. Heart-Man was barely phased when he heard a distant shout of anger. Without a word, he rotated his chair to face the door, regarding it with a blank expression. He noticed his nurse's cap sitting on a side table, but he paid it no heed--the uniform meant nothing to him now; Wily had won and soon he'd be scrap metal. That is, if the person who had shouted his name wasn't going to kill him first. |

Dive Man stormed off to the hospital, muttering angrily and throwing a rock he picked up. He walked past a deli, the post office, the train station. He was about to reach the hospital, until- "Dive Man, wait!" "What?" Toad Man was standing behind him. "Don't blame him! It wasn't his fault!" "How so, brother?" "The others were just frustrated! He was too; it just exploded between them! Blizzard Man just broke down and-" "I don't care! Tell me what the hell Heart Man said!" "He... he said that the others lacked courage and fighting spirit..." Dive Man just stared at him. "They don't. I'm certain of that." He put his hand to his head, and muttered, "Why can't Heart Man just get along with them?" |

"Good, good...well, we can stop sitting around talking and go look for that engineer now." Shorde stood up, and stretched a bit. "And she'll be more likely to show herself if she knows it's safe...which means we ought to go stop that infernal rumbling. Anyone know where it's coming from?" "Gee, I don't know..." the girl robot said suddenly in a sarcastic tone, pointing off to where a giant robotic dinosaur was wrecking the city. "Oh...well, then," Shorde mumbled to himself quietly, a little ashamed for not noting that earlier. "Pick up your damaged friend there, it's time we go send that thing back to the prehistoric age." Shorde grabbed his sword from where it was sticking out of the ground, and walked off with the girl robot towards the dinosaur. |

Dive Man looked at Toad Man. On the one point, we was sympathetic for poor Heart Man when he heard he was crying. On the other, he was infuriated that he had managed to destroy his whole army. He stared at the toad robot. He looked up as if a cloud might give him an answer. Finally, he turned, walked away, and said nothing. Toad Man wiped his brow. He started cautiously torward the hospital door, thought for a moment, then decided against it. He just sat at the wall, upset. He was just about to get up, when a foreboding Pharaoh Man look-alike was right in front of him. "Oh, my Cossack... S-S-S-Sunstar?!" |

When Shorde approached the scene, the first thing he noted was the robot atop the dinosaur's head. He had a real intimidating headpiece and more spikes than your average porcupine, but he seemed to be dealing with his own problems--he was fighting another figure atop the dino's head; it looked to be that quiet guy with the shotgun. At its feet, presumably distracting it, was a Robot Shorde didn't know, and...Vestra. There she was, plain as day, fighting the robot dinosaur! That had to take some courage. "Guess I was wrong about her hiding..." Shorde pointed to Vestra. "That's the engineer you want, miss. Make sure she doesn't, y'know, die." With that, Shorde ran out to where the dinosaur was, shouting, "Well, ain't this a happy l'il reunion!" --- Heart-Man could hear several noises from behind the hospital door. He dared not rise from his chair, though--not only would it mean bearing the weight of his surgical equipment; what was the point? We were all toast anyway... |
