"When are they gonna get here...?" ProtoMan thought. Proto remembered Roll's unconcious body. "Roll......."

"Roll, hmm?" Dyna Man asked, glancing over at her unconsious body. "Well, she never cared much for us," he said flatly, and perhaps a little sadly as well. After a pause, he added, "as did anyone here... It's cruel to be part of a terribly under-the-radar rebellion..." he muttered sadly.

"Anyway, what happened? Is it something with Virus?" Sonic Man asked. This was fairly suprising, considering not many of the robots knew of the sword's name. It was often only named sword, with "that" and "damn" usually following. "I'm suprised, considering it was only made as a regular sword... Did Heart Man have something to do with it? You did mention him."

"Ah, yes, my successor. Always nice to meet people who use explosives we trust!" Dyna Man said happily, holding a stick of dynamite.

"Anyway, Tide Man-" Volt Man said, which was again suprising. Usually, the DOS robots were terribly out of loop, and didn't often know the newer robots (Dyna Man being an exception, of course). "-are you in need of our services?"

Tide-Man smiled under his armor at the peculiar primitive Robot. "I'm really sorry about your luck...typically, the stronger you were, the more famous you were..." His face fell grim again. "...at least people don't hate you, like some do us."
With that, he addressed another one of them. He really wished he knew their names. "Oh, ho ho, Virus is far from an ordinary sword. It's just been a Coda-family secret...until now, that is. Its power has finally come to surface...so for your safety, it's time you get informed."
As he turned to a third one, he felt he was being overwhelmed with conversation. "No, not really...but you should probably stick around to hear this. Say, how do you know my name? I'm afraid I can't return the honor...I've never seen you before."

"Well, yes..." Dyna Man muttered, a look of discontent on his face. "...but at least you aren't laughed at for being incredibly weak, either..."

"Ah, right, our names. I am Volt Man, this is Sonic Man, and over here is Dyna Man. Pleasure to make your acquaintance," he said, shaking his hand. "I am not suprised you do not know us- many do not. Those who do often look upon us with scorn and defilement, anyway..." he added quietly, shaking his head. "Normally, I would have six others here with me," he added a little brightly, "but they could not reach this spot in time. Ah, well, when the time comes, I shall inform them." They then got around into the group, except for Sonic Man.

He was staring at Roll, overlooking any injuries she might've sustained. "Poor girl.... She looks somewhat lost in the expression she was frozen with..." he said wistfully, not caring who heard.

Sonic Man was still overlooking Roll, when he noticed the sword on the ground. It was in a normal state.

Getting a feeling of foreboding yet more of a curiosity, Sonic Man reached for the sword, and picked it up.

He then felt an extremely sharp pain in his mental processor, forcing him to drop the sword with a clink. He sat, clutching his head, wondering what it could mean. "Urk... What was that?" he said to himself quietly. "Was it some sort of anger trapped inside the sword? Or is it merely a security system?" He took a closer look at the sword. Completely normal. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. "... Strange..." he muttered quietly to himself. "Heart Man? Are you in need of help gathering anyone?"
---
Volt Man had found Quick Man, with a giant hole in his chest. "Pity. He is a friendly robot, just a tad on the stressed side..." He began to get to work, patching up the hole with speed. He rearranged the wires to their normal state, and booted him up in less then six minutes.

"Ow... I feel like there's a hole in my heart- er, oil circulator..."

"Well, there used to be, but it's all fixed now." He stared peculiarly at him at his mention of heart- was he... No, of course not.

"Join Mr. Heart Man over there. He wants to speak to you," he said.

"All right." With that, Quick Man hopped off the car and jogged over to Heart Man's group. Volt Man then began on the next robot- Wood Man. "Hey, Dyna Man! Go fell a tree for me!"

He replied with a giant tree falling nearby. "Sonic Man, start cutting the wood with the trident... Sonic Man? Oh, probably still looking over Roll. Poor girl."

He cut the wood into the new armor, made new gears, and fixed everything to tip-top standards. He then booted him up, the whole repair taking only about 15 minutes. "Wood Man, go over to Heart Man. Peace settling now; he needs to speak to all of you."

"Well, all right. Seems odd, but whatever..." He walked off to Heart Man's direction.

(Erm...did you miss the part where Shorde put Virus back in Roll's sheath?
Eh, whatever, I'll work with it.)

Upon seeing someone interfering with Roll--when he believed brother Heart-Man didn't want anyone interfering with them--the one idle Coda Robot, Wire-Man, ambled over to them. "Please do not disturb the--"
He stopped in his tracks to recalculate when they picked up Virus, then dropped it again in pain. "That probably wasn't such a smart idea," he said in the same tone, as he bent down and ran one of his limbless forearms over the blade. "Hm...probably still hot with rage. After all, it wasn't too long ago that she used it. Please refrain from touching it again; Roll herself won't feel a thing when she grabs it regardless of the time."
---
(Fast-forwarding a little here because waiting for Heart-Man to finish will be boring.)

Heart-Man carefully cleaned the oil off of himself. He had just finished repairing the last Second Rebellion Robot, putting every Robot there back in fighting condition. All of the Coda Robots had relocated and reinstalled their weapons as well, save for Wire-Man, who was still missing his Cable Whips.

Heart-Man finished cleaning himself off, and took a deep breath. It was time to inform the public. He quietly turned to face them, addressing everyone there as well as he could.
With that, he began his speech. "As many of you witnessed, Roll had unexpectedly transformed a few minutes ago. This consisted of a heightened state of aggression and modifications to her blade to function as a two-handed sword. Well, there's truth in what Charge-Man had said--I am responsible for these changes. The modifications aren't quite what you all think, though--and to understand, you'll have to know the whole story."
"After Dr. Coda finished building the nine of us," he continued, counting Fire Wall in his head, "he spent much time building a robotic sword named Virus. He told us everything about it, but he would never tell us who it was for. In reality, he was keeping it for one of us who was truly worthy, to help us reach an even higher level of strength, but of course, it wound up going to Roll. He couldn't send her to fight with no weapon, so he had no choice, but otherwise, the sword probably would've gone to one of us."
"Anyway, Virus is a one-handed sword that's designed to let its wielder excel in combat and become an unstoppable force. It does this by reading the user's emotions and storing their pent-up rage. There's not really a way to tell how much is too much, but whoever winds up pushing them over the edge winds up influencing the ensuing transformation."

"First, there's The Protectant, which is what many of you just witnessed. It occurs when someone they know as an enemy shoved them over the edge, and it puts them in sort of a heroic state of mind. Brave and altruistic, the primary focus of The Protectant is to speed along the mission, and while they at first only do this by attempting to eliminate enemies, the aggression recedes as time passes. As you saw, this also changes Virus into a very sharp two-handed blade--and as one gets close to the peak, one should be able to wield the mighty blade in one hand.
"Then there's the other side--The Infectant, released when one's allies push one over the edge. Animal-like and vicious, they are so overwhelmed with rage that they will simply destroy everyone they see. It may sound terrible, but like The Protectant, the aggression in this state will recede. Virus is much heavier in this state, and it receives saw-toothed edges as well."

"As you now know, I have modified Virus in order to grant Roll access to these states--but it is only because it is what she wanted." Heart-Man suddenly realized his eyes were closed, as if unwilling to see the people's reactions. He opened them, and quietly uttered a sigh. "There are a few details I've omitted...but that was to save time. ...Does anyone have any questions?"

Dust Man spoke first. "Obviously, the question we all want answered is- is there any way to reverse the modifications you made?"

Many nodded in agreement. "We would all like to see these changes reversed after the war, or perhaps sooner, of course," Bright Man said, "but that could be costly to her thoughts of us, as well... I think the most initial question we should ask first is how to stop it."

"Yes. What plan of action should we take up on encountering the second form you mentioned?" Volt Man asked. He then shook his head, and added quickly, "while preventing damage to the girl, of course." He and his friends never really cared about Roll much, mainly because she never really cared about them. It wasn't uncommon to see their acute lack of concern for her safety or how they mentioned her as "the girl." "Also," he started, "do you believe we should inform Dr. Light on modifying his robots in order to successfully restrain her from either form?"

Heart-Man nodded. "We were all informed to deal with The Infectant by hiding from view. Remember, rage makes a person not think straight, and overlook things--I wouldn't expect you all to make Roll that angry, but the best way to deal with her is by hiding until she calms down."

He then sighed quietly. He agreed with himself that he would tell them if they asked...he didn't like it, but they had asked. "The only one who could ever do a permanent disable of the sword's abilities is its builder, Dr. Coda...but there is one other thing that must be for the transformations to occur. Roll...she has to have Virus with her in order to undergo a transformation. If she's not holding it, she won't be able to, no matter how frustrated with all of us she becomes. I wouldn't do that if I were you, though..." Here, Heart-Man's voice trailed off, waiting to see their response.

Dynamite, Paradox and Crash were a bit confused, but Vestra and Sebek understood the gist of it, and Vestra was annoyed she was ignored yet again.

"So... if the sword is removed from her grasp... she is unable to transform..." Burst Man said slowly. At this, a lot of the robots took glances at the sword. Of course, this was an immediate and selfish thought, and it perspired as quickly as it was aroused.

"Hiding from view would be easy, yes, but how will she deal with herself if she did manage to strike down any robot? Guilty? Angry? Saddened?"

"We'd better warn Dive Man about-" Toad Man said before gasping.

Dive Man was infamous for his bad temper and his do-everything-yourself kind of thinking, along with his reputation of believing girls will never surpass men in combat zones. Combined with Roll's modifications, it was an unlit fuse just waiting for something to set it off.

"Dear Cossack, he'll have to stay away from the battle zone now! What will he do if he encounters Roll in one of his bad moods? He'll be scrapped before he could say 'Shut it!'!"

"But he's the best war general we have! If he can't be here now, we'll be toast- I mean, the whole train thing guranteed lasting effects, but... it got our forces in quite a fix," Ring Man said somberly.

Bright Man put a hand to his chin. "Worse yet, there is barely anyone suitable to replace for the position. The only ones I can see off of the top of my head are myself, Ring Man, and most likely Volt Man, and even then we lack the war experiences he has amassed... Not to mention that Charge Man and his crew, with the information they possess, will most likely turn public opinion (of course, this means robots in Monsteropolis) against the only field medic we have, who is extremely important here... And to add to that is if Roll goes into here Infectant state, and demolishes everything- and I mean everything- there is here. That will turn public opinion, both human and robotic, against us, and her, to an extreme extent. We've been pinned into a nasty hole, Heart Man... I sure do hope you knew what you were doing, giving her those modifications."

"One at a time, please!" Heart-Man put his hands up. "I am but one person, and I will answer your questions, but please do not rush me!"
"To start...I don't know how she'll feel, but if she wasn't okay with it, I doubt she would have ever sent herself out to fight. I say we cross that bridge when we get to it. As for Dive-Man..." Heart-Man knew they would need his help out here, and who knows--maybe someone to get angry enough to talk back would do him some good. "...we clearly can't last too long without him, so we will bring him in and give him the same precautions as everyone else. If he winds up pushing Roll off the edge, and he sticks around long enough to let her attack him...well, we'll see how that goes."
"And some people call me the negative, worst-case-scenario guy. Roll may be equipped with some of the most deadly weapons known to mankind, and she may even be in the right mindset to destroy, but The Protectant and The Infectant are just as inexperienced as she is. The only reason she nearly killed Mega Man is because her hacked data also came with a lot of experience with Virus...I know exactly what I was doing--I was fulfilling a patient's wishes. I was warning her that she may wind up hurting us all severely, but she wouldn't have any of it--she insisted that the best way she could serve all of us was if she was stronger."
Heart-Man slowly pulled his nurse's cap out of his storage, and placed it on his head. It felt good to finally wear it again--it reminded him of when he first walked into Loose Ends Hospital. "Now, do you have more questions, or can we start being active again? We're sitting ducks, out here in this train wreck--I'd like to stay here only as long as it takes for Roll to regain consciousness."

"Well, all right... If you insist," Bright Man sighed. "Oh, yes, another thing. I was informed just a few hours ago that Light's new series of robots are almost complete. He's completed five and two more are already drawn out. He expects it to take just a few days for the new robots to come out- though I doubt this if he spirals into depression after hearing of the modifications you made, Heart Man..."

Wave Man stood with the group, overlooking Roll. "I could speed this up for you, Heart Man, if you want me to spray her with some water... It only takes about 2 minutes for anyone to get up after spraying them," he explained.

Paradox Woman paused, and looked under her foot. There seemed to be a shard of some sort. She then noticed quite a few, scattered around the area.

Paradox: Hey, Shard Man, are you missing any pieces?
