"...Hmph. I'm not really sure how to take such news...I, personally, have always had the thought that the collective evil brains would find a way to steal them before we could deploy them on Light's side." Heart-Man quietly walked over to Roll. "...If you guys don't want to wait, I suppose we could just carry her. I guess Fog and Blackout did hit her a little hard..."
---
Shard-Man quickly looked himself earlier. If there was a hole in his exterior, it would most likely be easy to notice...and he looked fine, for the most part. "Nope, I think I've got all my crystal. Why?"

Time's up.

Paradox: Well, there's glass everywhere. And I think it's moving...

Indeed, the glass was moving. It started concentrating into one spot, forming a lean Robot Master seemingly made of glass.

Shatter Man, fully assembled, shook his head, and looked up.

Paradox: Shatter! Hey, bro, how've you been?
Shatter: Fine. Or okay. No, fine. Or maybe alright...
Paradox: What brings you here?
Shatter: ...I forgot.

Shatter turned, and noticed Shard Man.

Shatter: Hello? Who are you?

Sonic Man looked over at the new arivial. "What a scatterbrain..." he muttered quietly. "Well, yes, I suppose we could carry here, but who? I mean, any of us could easily do it. The only problem is, if she wakes up in an enemy's arms, it might startle her into attacking..."

Heart-Man looked around at the group listening. It was true; there were more former villains (Counting the Coda Robots) than heroes present. He sighed quietly, then suddenly picked Roll up himself. Her light weight and small stature made her easy to carry, and her arms went nicely around his neck. "There...if no one else wants to, I'll carry her. Now, let's get go--"
"I believe you're forgetting something," Wire-Man said in his usual boring voice, holding out his bare forearms.
It didn't take but one overturned car to locate his Cable Whips.
---
Shard-Man heard someone talking to him--which was odd; he wasn't forcing conversation with anyone. He turned over to the voice, and saw it was a Robot who greatly resembled him, if they were made of the same material. "If you're from an alternate universe, you can go back there now," he said, a bad attempt at humor.

Shatter Man wasn't sure whether to laugh or groan. So he did both, but it sounded weird, so he stopped.

Shatter: Well, actually, my name is Shatter Man. I was built by Rythem.

(I dunno if you were waiting for me, but whatever.)

"Well, all right. Come on, we should probably head to the last city," Bright Man suggested.

"All of us?" Junk Man said, confused. "We aren't really supposed to be with you guys... Are we?"

"Err, I'm unsure... Heart Man, did you mean for these villians to come as well?"

"Villians? That's how you view us?"

"What? Do you feel uncomfortable being called that?"

"A bit, yes."

"Well, fine. Reformees."

"That doesn't sound much better."

"We can't just call you allies! I thought you were still fighting us and we were only giving this information to you in order to prevent emotional damage to Roll."

"We aren't allies?"

"I don't know... I could've sworn this was Heart Man's intent..." He then muttered under his breath, "unless he doesn't actually care about that kind of thing..." Bright Man stared over at Heart Man. "Well? Are they allies, or no?"

"Don't tell them if they're still fighting us or not. As long as they're not shooting us, I don't have a problem with them being around...but they'll say if they're our allies."
Tide-Man came up to stand beside Heart-Man. "I thought we were beginning to go on the offensive, but it would probably be best to go back to the Last City. With the collective minds here, we should be able to fix the teleporter...then we can bring in our real brains, Dive-Man. Not that I think we need him, but you guys certainly want his presence...alright, let's go."
With that, the Coda Robots formed two lines of four, and started walking back to the base. Hopefully, the walk wouldn't take too long.
---
As the Robots were clearing out, Shorde looked around, then down at his watch. "I guess it's up to me to give Proto a hand...well, I guess it won't be so tough." He brought up his sword, slung it over one shoulder, then started following the train tracks in the opposite direction.
---
"Ah, that means you're one of those Robots. I'll say, you weren't half-bad...but who's Rythem?"

(It'll be boring walking back so I used fast-forward button)

The robots eventually got back to the city after a half hour or so of walking. Volt Man and Bright Man got to work on the teleporter, while the others decided to fan out and search around for anything useful- scrap metal, extra bolts, and so on.

The teleporter was fixed in just a few minutes thanks to the two's superior calculations and repair skills, and was booted up.
---
Dive Man sighed. He was furious. He was sad.

Worst of all, he was bored.

He had gotten the news that Heart Man- of course, Heart Man- had led all of his forces to be captured by the Dark Men. That's why he was furious.

He was sad that all of his friends and colleagues were captured with no way of escaping.

And he was downright bored, with nothing to do but talk to Mega Man and the First Rebellion, itching to go as soon as they heard of the massive destruction there.

He liked to help Dr. Light, but now he had gone into some crazy depression, muttering Roll every few minutes. He was lounging on the couch, bored out of his mind, when suddenly...

A knock came from the door.

Curious, Dive Man opened it, and he was standing right in front of three foreboding Robot Masters, all looking hopelessly forlorn and lost. By instinct, Dive Man readied his missiles, but after looking at their expressions, dropped his guard. "Whaddya want, you Wily bots?" he said firmly.

Shade Man stared at him. "This has nothing to do with our affiliation. We're here to talk with Light."

"He's in some sort of depression about-"

"What happened to Roll," Charge Man finished, with a slight crack in his voice.

"...Yes. Right. Is he expecting you?"

"Yes."

"Fine, come in. I'll get Light for you now." He walked off, calling for the doctor.

ProtoMan was punching the wall, over and over. All he could think is : "Roll, Roll, Roll, Roll." He made huge dents, but never broke it. He then sat down, worried, and saddened.

(Now, let's try this once more...)

Cloak Man had hoofed it all the way to the Wily Base by then. Still invisible, he noticed the lockdown in place. He thought a bit, and hacked into the nearest door, opening it for just the amount of time needed for him to get in. And, the way he did it, made it look like a glitch. He was also invisible, and he made his way through the fortress.

(Entire Light family is depressed. And I thought Roll was being a little too emotional.)

Heart-Man leaned against a pile of debris, and sighed. It had taken him longer than he would've liked to get here, and he was wondering how the Robots would maintain their charges with the facility being essentially broken.

It was then that Roll woke up. Startled by being in a very different place, she looked around in confusion, and eventually discerned that she was back at the ruined Base. At once, she let go of Heart-Man's shoulders, and walked out to in front of him. "What happened? What are we doing back here?"
Heart-Man regarded Roll with an odd gaze--one that sort of confused her, but she had to try not to show her worry. "Well, you sort of passed out after a while, so I've been carrying you since. We managed to defeat Charge-Man, and most of the other people on the train joined up with us after they saw how badly we beat them."
"Oh..." Roll suddenly looked down at the ground. She unsheathed Virus, and held it out in front of her--she had the blade's power now; what was she doing wrong? To think she didn't get defeated, she just passed out... "...Does this mean I've been a burden?"
Heart-Man just smiled at her. "It's my job to help people, it was no trouble to me." Seemingly satisfied with his answer, Roll nodded at him and walked away, still holding Virus in her hand.
---
It took a good while of walking, but eventually, Shorde reached the Wily Outpost.
That was the good news. The bad news was that the entire facility appeared to be on some sort of security mode, allowing no one to get in unless they broke a hole in the wall.
Well, with the blade Vestra had given him, maybe that wouldn't be such a tall order to fill. Carefully making his way to the main entrance, Shorde held the blade above his head, and brought it down upon the metal blocking his path with a mighty slam. Sure enough, it cut right through the metal--with a few more slices, Shorde had hacked his way into the building. "Don't mind if I invite myself in?" he said with a smile, and entered the facility.

Dr. Light had come to the door right away, and started to bombard the train-based robot with questions. "What happened? Why did she do this? How did Heart Man fit the code into her mental processor? Is she hurt? Is she insane?"

"Calm down, calm down! Nothing harmful has come her way, Doc. She was perfectly sane, except for being a little too robotic, Heart Man changed the processor probably, she did this because of us, and now she's in some sort of mental state that only lets her attack enemies... and perhaps worse..." he said sorrowfully.

"Perhaps worse?"

"I'll tell you after I finish what I know. Come with me," he said quietly, easing the doctor into a chair.

"A while ago, Dr. Coda informed us of a possible change that the wielder of Virus- that is, Roll- could go under. It was only possible to do so from Heart Man as an operation was needed, and only he knew what could be done. He warned that once this potential was unlocked, it could bring massive consequences for the wielder's enemies... and friends, too. One side, the Protectant, allows the user to fight dilligently with the sword to defeat all enemies with vigor and fighting prowess. The other, known as the Infectant, does not care for either friend or enemy and will ravage everything until the effect wears out. Eventually, both power and fighting ability will increase. Either attack stems from being outraged by either ally or enemy, and will only wear out when the user wears out."

Doctor Light took all of this in. "Why did she go and do this?"

"Because..." Charge Man was attempting to not let sadness tke the best of him because of failed actions. "...it's because we weren't there for her after... that."

"What?"

"Light, you know it. I'm certain of it. Mega Man is at fault here, you're at fault here, all of us are at fault here. He was always apologizing, you were always trying to say it's all right, it's fine, we stood on the sidelines, afraid of her and the sword... You knew that barely anyone invited her to anything."

"Well, yes. But-"

"No buts. You know this. It's all of our faults. We weren't there when she needed us most, Light. It's like she was abandoned."

"..." Light was completely silent at the word. "...yes. She needed someone when no one was there. We took action much too late."

"And we'll never get her back. The sword is ireversable, and so are the changes. Heart Man told me himself."

Light put a hand to his head in agitation. He was thinking about all the things he had done wrong. It was all his fault Roll was now corrupted by the programming Heart Man installed, yet he couldn't blame the young robot, either. Roll accepted this herself.

Hopefully, she would also accept it was breaking the hearts of her friends.

With the other Coda Robots out on patrol, Heart-Man found himself idling at the base. He was worrying--partially about the state of the war, but mostly about Roll.
Then it hit him like a ton of Power Stones. The teleporter! It was operational as of about five minutes ago; he could have a chance to talk to Dr. Light himself! Hoping that he would be willing to listen, Heart-Man dove into the teleporter, and sent himself over as quickly as the thing would power itself up.

Not wasting any time to even reorient himself, Heart-Man threw open the door of the teleport room, and looked around frantically. "Dr. Light?!"
His face fell when he looked into the lobby, and saw him standing in there with...Charge-Man and company. "Oh, no," he said as his face turned grim, "I guess I'm too late..."
Heart-Man quietly walked towards the group, unsure of what to say now that he knew Charge-Man had beat him here. "Well, here we are again, Charge-Man..."

"Heart Man..." Dr. Light said slowly and eeriely calmly. "you must first recieve my permission to do such modifications to my robots. This is what I am most angry about."

"Other than that... You did nothing wrong. It was my fault these modifications took place, and I am aware that I am powerless to fix it. Charge Man here did an excellent job negotiating with me that it wasn't your fault that you've changed Roll; it was ours. Though I believe you must be aware we've spent a lot more time around her than you have. Even so, you were doing what your paitent requested, and for that I cannot blame you."

With that, Dr. Light walked quietly into his lab, and soon the sounds of hammering and welding took place.

Charge Man flashed a smug smile at Heart Man. "Perhaps us 'inferiors' aren't as great at fighting, but you're going to have to owe us that one." With that, he and the two others calmly side-stepped him and entered the teleporter.
---
"Oh, drat! Someone's cutting through the lockdown doors! And the train is down, too... What am I going to do now?" Napalm Man asked in desperation. He looked over the cannon he was guarding. It was possible he could transport it to another outpost, but it was going to be hard, pushing it there...

He looked over and saw a truck. "Hmm..." he thought. Not wasting any time, he quickly started to load the cannon onto it.

"...I would find another way into Mobius if I were you...you wouldn't want to end up in the middle of Dr. Light's base," Heart-Man feebly called after them. They shouldn't've done what they did, he thought to himself, I am the only person to blame. I could have never mentioned it to begin with...
And Roll...why was everyone acting like he had changed her into a monster? Other than the mindset changes that occurred with a transformation, she was exactly the same as before, and even those would recede with time...all he had done was try to make her stronger, so she could protect herself and others later. If that made her a monster, what did that make him and his siblings?

It then occurred to Heart-Man that thinking was incredibly unproductive. He quietly walked back to the workshop, and opened the door as quietly as he could. "Doctor Light...I've done a lot of things that were wrong recently. I don't think 'I'm sorry' is enough for you...is there anything I can do for you...?"

Dr. Light looked back at Heart Man. "Um, sure. Hand me that wrench right there," he said, pointing to a large, red wrench. "I'm trying to finish work on Hose Man here. Already have four others done, though I had to scrap one due to a major design flaw. Take a look at them if you want."

He then pointed over to a door, which housed old and new creations that weren't needed. This is usually where broken robots who were recently fixed go for charging, broken robots who weren't fixed yet go for storage, and new robots go for storage. Four of them were finished, as Dr. Light had said.

One of them looked a lot like Bright Man, with an emergency light plopped on the top of his head. He had a brown-orange body, a Flash-Man like buster, and decorative mirrors on his shoes and shoulders. He was portly, but well-built. Another, right next to him, had the appearance of a space shuttle. The head looked to be a run-of-the-mill empty space helmet, with antennae on both sides. The feet looked like orange rocket boosters.

The other two seemed to be much more complex. The first was a hefty, yellow robot with emergency stripes on his feet and hand protectors. Shiny black striping on his shoulders looked a lot like windows, and his feet had tires on them, like Turbo Man's shoes. He wore a small construction hat and he seemed to have a squarish head. Perhaps the biggest feature was the shovel-crane attached to his back, which had full 360 turns and tons of horsepower. The one next to him was a smaller, thinner robot with railroad signals for shoulders. He had a small signal on his head, like Metal Man's metal blade. On his left arm seemed to be a semaphore signal, attached to hinge like a sword. He had semaphore stripes on his feet and hand protectors. His face was much like Heart Man's without the mouth- a circle-like face with a mouth protector.

All of these were labelled with their names on top. Watt Man, Shuttle Man, Lift Man, Signal Man.

Four more empty canisters awaited, only one being labelled. At the end of that row was two more familiar robots, polished, fixed and charging. One was green and had two dynamos for shoulders, while the other was tannish-brown and had a giant drill in his chest.

Before leaving, Napalm Man took a look at the truck to see if it was in working order. Popping open the engine revealed the missing cooling belt.

"My luck is terrible today!" Napalm Man moaned. He eventually found a spare cooling belt after searching around. Installing it and revving up the engine, he burst out of the outpost, driving as frantically as possible.
