As if on cue, Snake Man and Crash Man walked in, with the Third Rebellion minus Shadow and Spark. "All right, we're all here. Let me do a headcount..." Snake Man muttered, counting off the robots silently. "21 of us, not including your three fighters. That makes... bah, 24. That won't work."

"Ahem."

Snake Man wheeled around, and noticed Drill Man behind him. "Never mind, 25. Guess we're all set."
---
Bright Man had just stepped off the teleporter and went into town, waiting for a bus to the hospital. He carefully considered what he might say to his sister, and, using the knowledge given to him by Tide Man, he formulated words he knew would give her- and himself- hope.

The bus creaked up to the stop. He boarded, and sat down next to a window as the bus rode ahead.

Heart-Man tilted his head to one side slightly. "I'm sorry, what sort of math are you doing? Last I checked, for two even teams, you need an even number of people...ah, no matter. We'll just assign Drill-Man to the Dr. Wily Team."
As Blackout-Man walked over to the new arrivals to explain the battle simulation, Heart-Man tossed a coin. After catching it and slamming it into his hand, it came up heads--well, that settles that. "All right! Roll, Blackout-Man, you two are the first two on the Dr. Light Team, and Quint and Poison, you two are on the Dr. Wily team. Roll, your team won the coin toss, so that means you get to choose your teammates first. Go on--choose ten Robot Masters from this group to be your teammates."

Roll wasn't expecting to get a choice. She stared at the crowd, as if expecting someone to jump up shouting, "Pick me, pick me!". She had no idea how to choose one Robot over another--who would do the best job?
After she had gone quiet for more than thirty seconds, Blackout-Man leaned over to her. "Hey, need help?" he whispered quietly. "Choose the people that care about you the most. They'll do the best job of protecting you. For an example, there's Crash-Man way back there--he may not seem the type, but he's looking out for you."
Knowing that the Third Rebellion would look out for her, but also not wanting to take them all before the other team had a choice, Roll carefully made her decisions. Eventually, the final Dr. Light Team was composed of Crash-Man, Snake-Man, Top-Man, Gemini-Man, Magnet-Man Oil-Man, Blade-Man, Bit-Man, Shark-Man, and Wave-Man. That was fair, right? She had picked the majority of the Third Rebellion, but she tried to choose from all that were present--not to mention that the DOS Units had recently proven to be very skilled, and were probably not as friendly towards her.

"So that leaves me with Hard, Needle, Dyna, Sonic, Torch, Dust, Toad, Tomahawk, Flame, Drill, and Blizzard, huh? Well, I have two of my comrades from the 2nd Minor, I guess. Since Roll picked first, I guess I'll choose my side... I got the east portion, more cover from those boxes."

All the robots then pushed a button on thier wrists, switching their armor colors to their team colors, thanks to a modification made by Dr. Light after competeting in a tournament a few years ago. "Come on, Wily Team! Let's go show this girl who's boss," Quint said, a smile on his face. His team shouted "Yeah!" before heading over to find cover.

(Wow, nice pick-up. I guess it wasn't such a subtle reference, but way to complete it.)

While everyone else ran off to go find cover, Poison-Man stood right where he was, glaring at the Dr. Light Team as they switched their colors in a similar way (Or rather, most of them did; neither Blackout-Man nor Roll had competed in the aforementioned tournament). "Who needs cover?! I don't! I'll plow right through this whole team with my corrosion!"
Heart-Man put up his hand. "Um, speaking of your corrosion, I think you're forgetting something." After slowly lifting one leg into the air, Heart-Man stomped on the ground, causing a few panels to slide away from the ground. New panels rose up to replace them, each one holding a bright white sphere with a flashing red cross on it. At the sight of the devices, Poison-Man sighed and tapped his foot. "These are Healing Items," Heart-Man explained, "a small little thing I've built. Its purpose is like the Health Capsules you're familiar with, but instead of housing all sorts of repairing nanobots, these have the sole purpose of curing a Robot's ailments. If Poison-Man hits you with his corrosion, you can grab one of these and crush it in your hand to cure yourself."

"With that last thing cleared up, you all get one minute for setup," Heart-Man declared. "When you hear shots fire, the match has started. Now, everyone do your best, and remember that even though this is practice, there is no holding back. Your setup time begins...now!"
As the clock was winding down, most of the Dr. Light Team ran off to find specific places to hide--ones that would provide cover, and that they could attack from. Roll, in a panic, was only focused on the latter. It was likely that she wouldn't fight so great anyway, and everyone would be aiming for her, too. Best to rely on my teammates as much as I can.
"Three...two...one..." All at once, Heart-Man and Delete-Man drew their Plasma Pistols, pointed into the air, and fired, signifying the start of the match.

"Fire away!" came a call from the back of the east portion. A small red bomb, accompanied by two drill shaped ones, arced slowly through the air and blasted a crater into the ground, barely missing Gemini, Shark, and Bit Man who lined up in the front. "Gemini, shoot up there and knock out their artillery positions," Bit Man yelled over to him.

Gemini Man fired three Gemini Lasers over to the boxes where they were stationed, forcing them to scatter. "Should ve go up now?" he yelled back. Getting no answer, he motioned for Shark to follow him.

They charged straight through the bullets and up the right side, knocking out Needle Man before retreating. Needle Man groaned, and dragged himself back to the cover of boxes.
---
Crash Man had decided to stay near Roll in case she needed any help. He was firing Crash Bombs into some of the boxes, hoping to impair Quint's front-line soldiers. "Looks like Needle is knocked out," he called over to his commander, noticing Needle crawling back to cover while firing a few Needle Cannon rounds. He then ducked his head to avoid a close call with a Torch Arm attack.

As soon as he heard the gunshots, Poison-Man charged, punching through the Light Team's cover with little to no effort. As he broke through a barricade, he roared, and was about to attack the unfortunate hiders there--until he had the misfortune of being hit with a Magnet Missile. More stunned than he was damaged, he carefully removed the projectile, muttered to himself, "I guess it would be nice to have shelter, though," and proceeded to seek just that.

Roll had to stop and think about what Crash-Man told her. Needle-Man was great at rapid fire, so him getting taken out was probably good for her...she would probably get hit with all the gunfire going on, but she couldn't just hide! Hoping to get the best of both, she peered around the edge of the barrels she hid behind, watching and waiting for an opening. On the opposite side of the battlefield, she could see Blackout-Man standing on high ground and raining bullets upon the Robots that were aiming at him.
---
"This is exciting, isn't it?" Heart-Man said rather cheerily. The Coda Robots were now in one corner of the room--the only spot that wasn't being used much for the battle. "I wonder who the winner will be."
"Well, from our standpoint, it'll probably be the Dr. Wily Team." "They do have Poison-Man, who is an incredibly aggressive frontline soldier. He could easily take out some of them." "And on top of that, they're already up one...if Roll stopped hiding and started attacking, that could turn the tables."
"...Yeah, it sure could," Heart-Man said back with a grim smile. He only hoped that she wouldn't attack so hard.

"Well Dr. Eggman, i'm off. Contact me if you have a plan..." ProtoMan said. ProtoMan then walked down the ramp.

(It was a ways back, but it seems you don't recall, Proto. Well, here it is again:
"The Dark One" is the name Shorde uses to refer to Shadow. That's who he's been calling for, and they sort of need to talk in order to keep either one from fading into the background.)

The few minutes it took for him to reach the Light Base again were short, but for Shorde, it was like an eternity. Gritting his teeth and trying to ignore the pain from the slashes on his arms, he eventually limped into the entrance of the base. A quick look around in the lobby told him that The Dark One wasn't waiting for him.
With a quiet sigh, Shorde proceeded out of the lobby and walked straight to the infirmary. As he kicked open the doors, he shouted for a medic, praying someone would hear him. Without waiting for someone to respond, Shorde laid down on the same gurney he had slept in last night, and waited for someone--anyone--to talk to. "I can understand the bio-form aid system not being good around here...but, darn it, when will someone show up?!"

ProtoMan saw Shadow walking away from Eggman's flagship. "Hey, uh, Shadow! Right?" ProtoMan said. "Hmm?" Shadow turned and faced ProtoMan. "Are you going to help stop Dr. Wily?" ProtoMan asked. "He is a threat to this world, so I suppose." "Then you need to come with me, to our base." "We even have a hedgehog like you. His name is Shorde." "Lead the way..."

With practically nothing to do physically, Shorde was focusing very hard mentally--it was the only thing he could do at the time anyway. Hence, he found it much easier to tell that the other Hedgehog he had sensed last night was approaching. Yes, that's most definitely The Dark One. Sitting up, he looked over at the infirmary doors, silently praying he was headed towards him.
Eventually, Shorde saw two people walking by--one, he could see, was the red-and-white helmet of Proto Man, and the other being the black spines of The Dark One. Unable to lift his arms, he stood up and looked at the doors, shouting "Over here!" Hopefully, he would be able to speak with The Dark One before the medical attendants arrived.

Shorde breathed a sigh of relief, rather happy that his companion had spotted him. " 'Sup, Proto? Don't act like you've never seen an injured man before...besides, I'll be fine. Freeze-Man did these casts for me," he said as he nodded with his head towards one of the icy casts encasing his shoulders and forearms. "He's no medic, but he sure did a mean quick-fix. I'll be fine until the medic shows up."
"And...ah, that's right, you. The guy I actually wanted to talk to. Been a long time, hasn't it, Dark One? You may not remember me...I wasn't so notable; I was quiet, nearly as quiet as you. I went by Lotus back when we finished Egghead off twenty years ago...but times have changed, and there's no need to use that name anymore. My real name is Shorde--Shorde Ariame.

"I bet you're wondering why I look so wrecked, Dark One. 'It's just a few robots, it shouldn't be any trouble.' These are neither just a few nor just robots--these Robot Masters plaguing our beautiful home aren't like Eggman's old mechs. And they're nothing like the Badniks you're used to bulldozing through. Some swordstress calling herself Malware gave me these cuts, and also a concussion that would have knocked the common Mobian unconscious.
"Anyway, where I was going with this is...these Robots are too much for us as we are now. We need more strength to deal with them. We need...the Chaos Emeralds." Guessing what attention that would get from The Dark One, Shorde quickly finished his monologue: "And you're the greatest sensor Mobian I ever knew. The Chaos Emeralds have been sealed away, but we need them again--I need you to use your powers to find them. I'll retrieve them, I just need to know where to look. Can you do this for me?"

Time's up.

Vestra sat in her "throne room" and chuckled to herself. She hid all the chaos emeralds. All but one. She tossed up and caught continueously the grey chaos emerald. She would begin her attack on Wily's fortress soon. Very soon.

"The nearest chaos emerald is the grey one." Shadow said. "Follow me." And he skated off in the direction of Vestra's location. ProtoMan spawned his ProtoJet for him and Shorde to ride on.

(Happy Birthday, Chaos.)

The practice battle seemingly dragged on for a while, with robots slowly getting picked off on both sides. By the time the battle had gone on for half an hour, half of both armies were gone, and they were simply taking cover, peeking up every so often to fire a shot (often missed). Gemini Man, Crash Man, Bit Man, Shark Man, and Blackout Man were all that remained on the Light side, whereas Dust Man, Sonic Man, Poison Man, Blizzard Man, and Torch Man were left on the Wily side.

Dust Man was covering Quint. "Looks like it's pretty darn quiet out there..." he muttered. "Don't worry- I've got a trump card up my sleeve," Quint said triumphantly.
---
Neptune and Venus were standing down in the magma ridden cavern. "Well, thar she blows!" Neptune whispered over. Sitting there was the glittery red Emerald, shining against the waves of lava. They looked to both sides, and advanced torward it.

(Oh, hey, right! It is my birthday, isn't it. I'd forget it if it weren't for you guys. No party, no presents...it's all later.)

"Um...guys? Aren't you forgetting something?" Shorde nodded once again to his casts. "Much as I'd love to come help, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do. Doctors would tell me to stay in bed and get plenty of shut-eye...see if you can't bag this one without me."
As the two obliged and left the room, Shorde laid on his bed and smiled. The Chaos Emeralds' power can't be matched, not even by these Robots...they'll be scrap metal in no time at all. As he waited for the medical personnel to show, he eventually became bored and fell asleep.
---
For the whole of the match, Blackout-Man had managed to hold his high ground on his side of the room. Though most everyone on the Dr. Wily Team was shooting to take him out, he could see it coming from a long way off and managed to dodge every attack they threw at him. Clicking his Blackout Buster to reload it once more, he emptied another clip off in the direction he had just been shot at from.
Poison-Man had done an odd combination of hiding and berserking the enemy defenses--any time they stopped being offensive, he charged and destroyed a bit more of their cover. It didn't take many shots fired at him before he was corralled back to his hiding point, though. Presently, despite his toughness, he knew he couldn't take too much more of five Robots wailing on him, so he was hiding behind a wall beside Blizzard-Man.

Roll had barely moved since the start of the match. Still peering around the same corner, waiting for an opening to jump out, get a strong attack in, then hide again, Roll was rather upset with herself for hiding this whole time. She was supposed to be in the lead, or at least commanding her allies--not hiding like a coward! She glanced over at her remaining allies, wondering what they could do. "Gemini, if you can spare enough strength to split into two...see if you can get out there and gain some ground for us." Still uncomfortable with taking charge of anyone, she could only hope her idea was a good one.

Gemini Man nodded, and split into two copies. He jumped out of his cover, and sprung torward the Wily side.

Unfortunately for him, Dust Man remembered the time he spent with Gemini during the third minor rebellion, and he was able to distinguish which was which. The clone was a considerably lighter blue than the real counterpart. He fired at the darker one, and the host flew back into the box he jumped up from, sprawled on the ground. He was almost able to escape behind a few boxes and catch his breath, but Dust Man took him out with a well-placed Dust Crusher.

The Light forces were down four to five. "Roll, we better think of something!" Crash Man whispered.
---
Blizzard Man was formulating a plan on how to defeat the Light Forces. He knew he was practically invincible when he rolled through the air. He crouched over to Poison Man and whispered, "Prepare to run."
He rolled into a ball, and without warning, hurled himself through the sky, smashing a box right above Roll's head. He unfurled and was about to freeze her, but Crash Man fired a Crash Bomb point-blank into him. He smashed against a wall, and slumped sideways.

"Come on!" he shouted, trying to cover Roll to a new position. He fired at the Wily Team's side, barely missing the oncoming fire.
Suprisingly enough, it was Quint who got him. Peeking his buster arm out from his cover, he fired a laser shot right at Crash Man's face. It ripped right through his cheek, exposing the circuitry inside. Crash Man moaned in agony before another shot ripped through his torso and sent him to the floor.

Bit Man and Shark Man were both pinned down up at the frontlines, unable to move back. When they saw the shot, though, they peeked up, and saw Quint aiming for a shot at Roll. Bit Man launched a Bit Cannon at him, hoping to nail him before Roll was hit.

(Wait...Quint only has a buster, Sakugarne, and the Copywep System. Which weapon was that?
...Also, I was half-expecting him to pull weakness shenanigans...)

Roll didn't want her teammates' sacrifice to be in vain, so with all the speed she could muster, she quickly darted behind a new barricade. Watching her teammates get hurt wasn't helping with her self-image as a bad commander, and running off to hide again wasn't really helping. She looked down at Virus sadly, catching her own reflection with it, and for a brief moment, she had an odd delusion. For what was only a split second, the blade showed the reflection of two more girl Robots standing behind her--one wearing white and gold; the other, black and green. As soon as she blinked, the strange image vanished.
Adding to Roll's misfortune, Poison-Man had caught sight of her flowing golden hair from the moment Blizzard-Man launched himself. "I joined this team to fight you, missy, and I'm going to get my fight!" He charged at the fresh barricade, not worrying about being shot because there were only three people left. Blackout-Man spotted his charge, and he wanted to defend his captain, but he also saw that Quint was out in the open, and he really wanted to lead an attack on the enemy team's leader.

Before leaving his high ground, he emptied a single clip out in Poison-Man's direction. Only one bullet hit, but as his luck would have it, it was his Black Bullet. Blackout-Man's ultraviolet lights glowed a bit brighter, indicating that his attack was ready. With as strong a jump as he could muster, he leaped down from his vantage point, landing on the enemy front-lines. Ignoring the other soldiers, he ran straight toward Quint, muttering "you should've been more careful." As he got closer, he let loose his attack. "Blackout Blast!"
At once, Blackout-Man's lights--along with all the lights in the room--began to flash violently, stunning every combatant on both sides. Everyone, that is, except for Blackout-Man. Without thinking, he grabbed Quint by his buster arm and quickly threw him the other way. Doubting that his allies had fully recovered in a couple short seconds, but hoping they had anyway, he shouted back to them: "they're open now!"

ProtoMan zoomed after Shadow. (This guy is fast almost, going higher than Mach 5! That's faster than QuickMan's top speed!) ProtoMan thought. He could barely keep up with Shadow.
