Below are some of the basic guidelines and rules about roleplaying with other members:
Basic Roleplaying:Roleplaying is a literary exchange between oneself or between multiple people. Roleplaying is done through a third-party device, such as the characters you make here. When roleplaying you can act out different types of personalities and dreams.
Now that you know some about what actual roleplaying is we can move on to what to do. There are many different types of roleplaying that you will see on this forum and any of them really work. We're sure you'll develop your own sense of roleplaying soon enough. Here is one basic guideline, when roleplaying in any of the In-Context areas, please make sure you separate you In-Context or IC content of a post from your Out-of-Context or OOC section. If you are asking a question to your roleplay partner include the tag OOC: the put your question, and put the tag IC: to RP again.
If you would like to have a private RP with a person or group of people simply put Private: in your title or indicate at the top of your post that you would like this to be a private topic.
Godmodding:Godmodding is a serious offense that is punishable by a ban. Godmodding is when you control another person's character without permission and making your character become god-like. This would be considered manipulating their actions and/or imposing your will by making your actions successful without giving them a chance to reply. Here is an example of godmodding:
- Quote:
-
Harry easily evades Matthew's attack and then crushes Matthew to the ground with a debilitating hit.
As you can see, the player "easily" evaded the attack without providing an adequate explanation and then proceeded to land a hit on his opponent without their consent.
There are also other actions that fit into this category which include but are not solely limited to the following:
- Dodging anything and everything that comes your way. No character has god-like reflexes and they certainty cannot teleport without help, therefore you are not able to dodge everything. When evading attacks you must provide a viable description.
- Giving your character supernatural and additional abilities. If you have a heavy and slow character, you can't just make it so he can jump over skyscrapers. This also includes' hidden weapons or abilities that are outside of your approved weapons and abilities. Such as pulling a concealed blade out of your back pocket and attacking an enemy with it is a no-no.
- Controlling elements. Your character is not a god, they cannot darken the sky and cause a hurricane. With that said, there are certain circumstances where you can "set" the environment, such as saying that it started raining heavily or you left the building and was bombarded by heavy snow. That is acceptable, but when your character can "change the weather" at will is where godmodding comes in.
- Everyone stumbles a bit after taking a hit, its natural. SO when it comes to getting hit by an enemy attack your character most likely will "flinch". Saying your character shrugged off the attack or wasn't phased is not acceptable. The only circumstance is if your Armor's program is like that of "Superarmor" where you can negate flinching or something related to that.
- Remember those are not the only circumstances and there are more acts of godmodding.
Metagamming:Metagamming is another serious offense that cannot be taken lightly. This is the application of outside knowledge to a Roleplay. Such as drawing information about someone's character from their profile and using it the first time you meet them.
For an example, if you have watched over how a specific member battles and know their battling style, you cannot use that in a battle with them unless you have actually fought them. "I knew you were going to do that move and I came prepared." is a statement that would fall under metagamming. You are strictly prohibited from using knowledge on other's playing styles from OOC observation in a battle against said person.
Although, there is a circumstance where you can use knowledge about a certain person. This is if you have an "ally" that has met or fought a specific person and they pass on their knowledge IC to your character. An example would be a Global Control Operative briefing another member on how to stop a specific criminal and how this said criminal acts. This hypothetical GCO must have fought and met the criminal in question multiple times.
Metagamming is serious and the staff will take action if it is found.
Your Character:Every member is limited to one IC main character that they RP, battle, and collect money with. That said character is only allowed to be in ONE place at a time. Your character cannot be committing a crime in one place and shaking the hand of a fellow criminal in another place at the same time. You must wait until one topic is done before moving to another.
In certain circumstances such as a very important Site-wide Plot, the staff may grant anyone wanting to participate a
Free Roleplaying slot in which that player may participate in the plot, while Roleplaying outside of the plot at the exact same time. Just because there is a sitewide plot, do not assume a free RP slot unless stated explicitly.
Posting during RP:Please know that some people have things to deal with in their lives and they may not be on here 24/7 to reply to a RP you are having with them. That means that you should be courteous about your RP and wait for them to post. Please keep in order as not to uninclude people. This does not prevent you from moving on without people, but just remember other people have lives as well.
Classifying Your Topics:When creating new topics please let people know what it is. This is done by labeling what you are doing either in the Topic title, description, or at the top or within your post. Some of the common classifications include:
- Private: For a private RP with someone
- Crime: Includes any criminal-like activity
- Patrol: For GCO and any do-gooder
- Restoration: For anyone who wants to repair an area
- Any topic without these will be considered an open free-for-all to join in on
The specifics of the crimes, patrols, restorations...will be explained in detail later on.
