The story of Midnight Dreams is not one of normality, yet it is one of surprises, secrets, and disbelief. A story full of gifts and wars, a story that takes place in Alter. Alter is a city in which "Anima" reside. Some humans, (Anima), have an unusual gift that grants them the ability to morph one or more of their body parts, such as limbs, into a form similar to an animal's body part. Some are capable of even more radical changes, such as growing wings or full-body transformation. The transformation processes are very fast, and occur at the user's whim. When inactive, the morphed areas revert back to normal, leaving person's clothing and body completely untouched. The Anima are capable of controlling their powers at will. Their abilities range widely — including, but not limited to, superhuman strength, agility, and reflexes, as well as heightened senses, and the growth of physical features such as claws or wings. All of these originate from the characteristics of an Anima's animal. Every Anima bears the characteristics of only a single animal. The origin of this phenomenon is unexplained, but is slowly revealed that there is more than one way to obtain this power; the vast majority of the characters acquired their Anima features when facing a desperate situation, as if the powers came to their help; but others believe that a stone, called the "Blood Jewel", grants the power to these humans through contact alone... That's where the city of "Alter" came in. Three clans of Anima grouped together, all given the purpose to protect the "Blood Jewel" from any danger or intrusions. The leader of the three groups was crowned the "Key" and took order with peaceful rule. These clans, or gangs, together (with the help of the "Key") founded the city of Alter. Many years have passed since the foundation of Alter, and the Key abruptly disappears. The three clans are left in confusion with no known reason as to what could have happened... Without order, without the Key there to control Alter, hell broke loose. The gangs quickly engaged in violent relations that revolved around possession of the jewel. Although the jewel was nowhere to be found, the three gangs insisted on waring with each other until only one clan was left standing, and that clan would then take over. Many people mourn the disappearance of the Key and blame him for the war that is currently raging on... |
