OOC Vs IC Some people seem to be confused about the difference between role played in-character, and out of character game play. Its not really your fault, the division is often crossed in the game and some regions are even entirely in IC or OOC. This simple guide should help differentiate between the two IC: In-Character. Usually this refers to nation based role playing, almost everything posted in the RP forums or posted as representatives of a nation is IC. Character based RP also falls under this category. OOC: Out of Character. The government, general discussion, customs, and introduction sections all fall under this category. If a post is written by and to the "player behind the nation" then it would be OOC. The government can be a little confusing, as we are not actually politicians leading a RL country(well region), but we are more ourselves in the context of the regional government. Pretty much everything outside the RP forums is OOC. Where these mix: Some places are more IC with their regional government, especially more authoritarian regions. Often times people will play more heavy handed than they are IRL, not because they necessarily support that type of thing in real life, but because they think it is more fun or makes the game more interesting. The people in this last category are somewhat rare however. |
