OOC: NVM. Just realized the ICBMs use internal combustion. Speed is irelevany, but that would mean some size able isolated air pockets. It is more size and fuel efficient to not leave low atmosphere and proceed at a slower rate.

I think you're missing the point, and don't really understand it. Firstly the page here is an excerpt of the real thing. Just follow the pop-mechanics links before, or google it.

The point of this is to go really fast and kill something. You know, the raid on Osama? Yeah this is the kind of situation it could have been used for. "strike anywhere" capabilities.

That being said, its good you know (albeit incompletely and, as you demonstrated with your grasp of momentum conservation, incorrectly) physics, but yeah, this is an actual DARPA project -- I doubt either one of us would be able to completely understand the software projected levels of fluid mechanics involved in the shape of the X-37. Though of course, I understand it more than you.
