Now the first new vehicle has gone underway for production, the second vehicle known as the Python Minefield Breaching System is now following behind. It replaces the ageing Giant Viper, which dates back to the 1950's, and has the ability to clear a much longer 'safe lane' than its predecessor. It is also faster into action and far more accurate. It can clear a path 230m long and 7m wide through which vehicles are safe to pass. The system works by firing a single rocket from a newly designed launcher mounted on a trailer which has been towed to the edge of the mined area. Attached to the rocket is a coiled 230m long hose packed with one and a half tons of powerful explosive. After the hose lands on the ground it detonates and destroys or clears over 90% of mines along its entire length.

Following the Heavy Equipment Transporter is the Python Minefield breaching system; which has been tested over and over on actual mine fields, giving a great result. |
