Introduction Basically this is just an RPG of pokemon. You write the story, you choose the protagonist and you decided the fates of those in your story. Which includes all the other writers in this game. You write when you feel like it and with your own style, got tired of writing? It's ok, I probably will as well, I'll just put your status on hiatus and then let you resume when you feel like it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rules: -Don't capture legendaries. This shouldn't really be said, catching ledgendaries is just silly and it takes the fun away from the game, although seeing and fighting ledgendaries is completely allowed. -You can only have 6 Pokémon in a team, like in the games. You must gain them over a long period of time, not quickly in like a day. This also counts for evolving a Pokémon: Evolution is a slow process, not after one battle. Some pokemon take longer to evolve than others, take this into account. And dont make trade evolutions happen too soon. - Please try your best to write good pieces of work. We don't want to have to get the "Egyptian Book of Hyrogliphs" out to decode your story. Basically, i dnt wnt u righting liek dis. - Accept criticism. People will most likely comment your writing. There is no need to take this personally and I'm sure most of the time it will be for helping out your story. But, this is no excuse for people to go around saying; YOU WRITE SHIT. STOP WRITING. CRAP. etc. If you're going to comment someones stories either be nice or make a well written critic which for a conclusion has advice for the writer. - Starters can only be monoevolutions or prevolutions. No starting the game with Garchomps or Rhyperiors. This is also counts 2nd evo's like Marshtomp and Electabuzz. -No Insanely over powerful Pokémon! You cannot have a Elekid that can beat ground types with Thunderbolt, aim 4 da horn, know what I'm saying? -Swarms are very quick, and last around a week. - You cannot create a super villain group. I'm thinking of possibly creating one big storyline where all of the writers can join in on it. You may battle rogue agents though. - No creating a new region. There is 5 of them already a 6th is not needed. But you can talk about Almia, Orre etc. -If you do wish to sign up, please send a PM of your characters; Starter, Town and name and special traits, to myself. -The capture of 5th gen pokémon is allowed, the ones that have been revealed anyway. What I don't want is every new chapter you the writer catching another 5th gen pokémon, for now they are very rare. - Here's how I would like most stories to be structured:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Creating your character
The World Mofia RPG is set in an alternate universe to that of SoulDew RPG. Gym Leaders Kanto ??? - ??? Johto ??? - ??? Hoenn Mauville: Vivian - Lightning Badge Sinnoh ??? - ??? Isshu ??? - ??? Elite 4 will also be placed here at some point. The Writers I can't be arsed putting all this stuff in the OP if I'm totally honest, just have a look at the other posts if you wanna know who's in it. (Not like any of you have actually written anything yet ¬_¬) Joe - currently on hiatus Gazooki and hoyle - Writing Everyone else - yet to commence Edited by Gazooki, Oct 12 2010, 08:26 PM.
Name: Jason Pirelli Starter: Howard the Psyduck Hometown: Cherrygrove Town, Johto Bio: Jason is just your average Pokemon Centre assistant. Or at least, he would be if it wasn't for one small detail... His blade, Akiro, is completely blunt, but he carries it at all times, and moisturises it with antibiotics. He's a nice guy once you get to know him, but is quite shy around others and tends to be a bit absent-minded. He met his starter after curing its headache while out on Route 30, and took it in because none of the other Psyducks would go near it any more. Special Traits: Jason always has his medication on hand, including Nutrition Tablets he made himself, which work on both humans and Pokemon. He has great experience in first aid, too. |
It's not my least favourite thing in the whole world I just think it's a bit gay. Since we're a light-hearted community I thought I'd make a little joke and make a report for fun since the report CP has been empty since day 1 and we're all mods with nothing to do. I didn't expect Silver to clear the report as soon as it went up, so that people could see it and have a laugh at a little joke. If it really offends you guys that much I'll leave it. Was just a joke =/ |
Health and Good Fortune: Jason’s Tale Chapter 1: Army of the Twelve Monkeys Jason Pirelli was just an ordinary medical student working part-time at the Pokemon Centre in Cherrygrove Town. At the young age of 17 he’d mastered the basics of first aid, and proceeded to mention it every time the local scout master came round to visit, just to prove he wasn’t completely worthless, as he’d been told countless times during his time with the International Paedophile Club (as he secretly refered to it as). On any given day, Jason could be found tending to the Pokemon brought in by novice trainers, prescribing his home-made Nutrition Tablets as a supplement to help the Pokemon grow stronger. When he’d first made them, he didn’t think they would work at all, but after testing them out on an injured Psyduck on Route 30, he discovered they were powerful enough to nullify the Psyduck’s naturally-occuring headache. After this remarkable discovery, he began to distribute his creation to all his clients, and the Psyduck, now christened Howard after one of the most famous ducks in the history of Marvel Comics, was used to demonstrate the power of his medicines. One seemingly normal day, while Jason was busy with the many Youngsters and Bug Catchers handing him Pokemon to treat, a commotion started just outside the town. Many of the trainers decided to go and watch, leaving their pokemon behind, so when Jason had actually managed to find the time to go and investigate for himself, many of the crowd gathered had already left. There were a grand total of six people there. This included Jason himself, his colleague and good friend Freddy Kabongo, a big black man who took his work very seriously and sweated constantly for some odd reason, his other work friend Rebecca Brooks, who came from a very respected family and was kind in nature but often firm too, and three men, all dressed in some sort of uniform, that Jason had never seen before. The object of fascination was a small, blue gelatinous blob, with a white head floating inside it. “Alright, fellas, you know the drill, make sure nobody gets hold of this thing, nobody, you hear?” “Yeah...” “What exactly do you three have planned?” Rebecca spoke up, demanding to know the intentions of these suspicious figures. All three turned around, apparently surprised that there were others in their presence, despite being there for quite a while. “Owen, you said there’d be nobody else here!” “This isn’t the time, let’s just get this little guy out of here quick! We start with the small fry, and work our way upwards from here.” “Do I honestly have to repeat myself?” “And why exactly would we tell you what we’re doing? You’re not a part of the Army of the Twelve Monkeys are you?” “I have no idea what that means. Now just answer me honestly, what are you planning?” “Listen, sweetcheeks, we ain’t answering your questions, we’re just doing our job, and that involves making sure nobody gets their hands on this fella!” Owen, the supposed ‘leader’ of the trio, pointed towards the small blob, which bounced around merrily as if nothing was happening. His incompetent sidekick and the other, seemingly mute henchman stepped out in front of it to keep it in place, and to prevent a stray pokeball from capturing it. “Alright, if you won’t tell me what you’re doing, I’ll simply force you to! Go, Kon!” Rebecca threw a pokeball, and out came a Teddiursa, not the most intimidating of enemies, but nonetheless a worthy opponent. Freddy followed up with a Staraptor, which literally intimidated its opponents, although none of them had been chosen yet. “Jason, you joining in or what, man?” “Who, me? Alright... Howard, go!” Howard moved into position in between Staraptor and Teddiursa. “Oh, it’s like that is it? Yanappu, I choose you!” Out came a small, jolly green monkey with what looked like a piece of broccoli on his head. “Boappu, come on out!” Next out was a red monkey, similar to the first, but with his eyes slightly shut and one paw near his ear. “Hiyappu, go!” This monkey was similar to the first two, but has his eyes completely shut and was blue. The three monkeys, sent out by Owen, his incompetent sidekick and the previously mute third member in that order, arranged themselves in alignment with the opposition. “I’ll keep this fella from escaping, you two command our simian friends!” “Sure thing boss!” “What about your Yanappu?” “He can take care of himself, you guys just concentrate on your own. Don’t let them get away!” Freddy’s Staraptor managed to shut down Yanappu within seconds with a powerful Brave Bird, not taking much recoil due to the weakness of its opponent. Howard sprayed Boappu with a jet of water, not quite taking it out. Kon tried to steal an item from Hiyappu but the monkey carried nothing. “Hiyappu, burn that teddy bear with Boiling Water!” “Boappu, outta the way!” Boappu and Hiyappu swapped places, then Hiyappu scalded Kon with hot water, burning him and speeding him up accidentally. The bear lashed out, finishing Boappu off, while Freddy’s Staraptor attacked Hiyappu with a Close Combat, eliminating the third of the monkeys. “Why you... you won’t be getting away lightly, you hear?” “Yeah, the Army of the Twelve Monkeys doesn’t take kindly to opposition!” Rebecca was becoming increasingly frustrated with their avoidance of her question, while Freddy prepared to fly after the trio should they try to make a run for it. “Now, I’ll give you once last chance to answer. What exactly are you planning to do with that Pokemon?” “We’re saving it from people like you.” “What do you mean by ‘people like us’?” “People who use their Pokemon as mere tools and have no respect for their wellbeing. People who needlessly trap their Pokemon and carry them around for the sole purpose of violent acts. People who think their only aim in life should be to become the very best, like no-one ever was. These people are the reason we liberate Pokemon from the tyranny of Trainers. Soon, the entire PC system will be hacked, and every single Pokemon in there will be released. And there’s nothing you can do.” “I can assure you none of us are like that. You, on the other hand, can’t really say much, after all, you used your Pokemon for battle just now, and keep them in Pokeballs, so technically you’re no better than us.” “You just had to bring that up didn’t you? We only fight for our cause, not for fun, and unfortunately our companions are a little... wild, so we have to keep them controlled.” “Did you even realise that the Pokemon you were supposed to be liberating has gone?” “It has? Oh holy crap, it has! After him, fellas!” Owen and his two colleagues ran off into Route 30, with Freddy flying after them and commanding his Staraptor to swoop down on them at regular intervals. After the 3 Monkey Army troops had been chased off, the small, blue blob emerged once again from amongst the trees. “Huh? He’s back again. How very odd. Jason, see what’s up with him, I know you’re good with this kind of thing. I’m going to see if I can find out any more about these Twelve Monkeys.” “Sure, I got my nutrition tablets right here, so if there’s anything wrong he should be fine soon enough.” Rebecca departed for the Pokemon Centre, while Jason tended to his new-found friend, a rare shiny version of the relatively unknown Yuniran species, thought only to inhabit the faraway Isshu region. Jason placed a nutrition tablet on the ground in front of it, not entirely sure where the Pokemon’s mouth was. He soon found out, as the blob opened its mouth and swallowed the tablet whole. “Wanna come with me, little guy? I’ll keep those nasty monkeys away from you, don’t worry. Here, you’ll have a friend, too!” “Psy... DUUUUCK!” “See, he likes you. Come on, it’ll be alright.” The blob edged closer to Jason, acknowledging him as its trainer. “I’ll call you Lucky, since you’re pretty rare. Now, let’s get you back to the Pokemon Centre...” ------------- Unbeknownst to the inhabitants of the main Pokemon archipelago, the faraway island of Isshu was in great danger. Even though Team Plasma’s original plan, to create a tyrannical world in which only their leader could use Pokemon and the people would worship him, had failed due to untimely intervention from a few individuals, and a surprise heel-face turn by N, the mysterious figure who had been crucial to the success of the plan so far, the remaining members were not ready to back down. A new leader had already been elected, Boris, a strong Russian man with a great sense of pride in his homeland, with the determination to follow through with the abandoned project to create the ultimate Pokemon, stopped before for fears it would be unethical. Now, without N’s intervention, the Plasma Research and Development department were free to carry on their work, awakening an ancient Bug Pokemon and enhancing it further with the world’s greatest technology. “Behold, Genosect!” The scientists had barely finished their work when Boris called a meeting to show off the Pokemon’s amazing capabilities and discuss their new plans for domination. “In my homeland, everyone was supposed to be equal. However, it is impossible for everyone to be totally equal in a land where there is nothing. Mother Russia is an unforgiving mistress, and that is why I fled her, to move here, where the people could potentially one day become equals. But what I see disgusts me. Those who have the advantage over others will show off whenever they get the opportunity. We must end this nightmare, by continuing Geechisu’s legacy. The Trainers of this world will fear us, and obey without question, once they know of Genosect. Terror will paralyse the battling community, and the Pokemon shall be ours. And if only we have them, then the rest of the world shall be equally powerless, and we shall have all the power! Now, it is time to demonstrate the sheer power of Genosect. Gideon! Bring in the test specimen!” “Yes sir! Right away sir!” The scientist rushed out and came back with the ‘test specimen’, one of the associates of the Elite 4, bound and gagged. “Strap him to that chair over there, it makes it easier for us all to see.” “Alright sir.” “Now, ladies and gentlemen, what you are about to see is the force Genosect is able to emit from the plasma cannon on its back, while eliminating one of our great enemies. Genosect! Techno Buster!” Genosect charged a shot, then in an instant the chair, and the unfortunate victim, were vaporised. “This, my friends, is what will happen to those who try to mess with us...” ------------ Meanwhile, back in Johto, a mysterious gateway to another world opened, and an equally enigmatic figure stepped out onto the sand of Olivine Beach. “Stupid zeros...” --------------- OOC: Well, there you go, first chapter done. Even if nobody else can be bothered I’ll still be writing, just for the hell of it. Health and Good Fortune: Jason’s Tale Chapter 2: The Trees are Disappering Jason had just arrived back at the Pokemon Centre, which was empty except for Rebecca, who was sat at the PC, researching the group they had encountered before. So far her searches had been fruitless, except from a newspaper article from 1996 about an incident where all the animals were released from a zoo in Los Angeles and roamed the streets until they were recaptured. Fourteen years had passed between these two separate occasions, so why would they choose to come back now, and why in Johto? “This isn’t making sense. There’s been no mention of these Twelve Monkeys since 1996, and that was in the US. Are the two groups even affiliated in any way?” “They do seem to have the same sort of aims, but yeah, it’s been a while since that happened, so they might just be naming themselves after these guys.” “That would be the most likely story. However, there’s not much more we can really do at the moment, our work is more important in all honesty. They could easily just be bluffing, after all, they didn’t look like they had much knowledge of hacking. I’d be very surprised if they actually do manage this. For now, we should just concentrate on what’s relevant, and once our clients return it’ll be time to get back to work.” “Yeah, that’s kinda odd how there’s nobody here. You’d think on a day like this there’d be a ton of newbies flooding in.” “Be glad you finally get some time to rest, it doesn’t happen often, even in a small town like Cherrygrove.” “I’d better go check if there’s anyone waiting outside, you never know, they might think we’re closed.” Jason looked around outside, but nobody seemed to be there. For the first time in weeks there were no patients to treat, which seemed very suspicious, as there were always a few battles taking place on Route 30 between trainers who’d just started out, or some poor lost child who’d had to be rescued from the dark cave. Even though it only took seconds to treat their Pokemon, sometimes it was a bit overwhelming and Jason had to resort to just passing nutrition tablets out to whoever was at the front of the queue in an effort to move things along. Today, there was nobody, and the whole thing seemed slightly unnerving in its irregularity. Jason went back inside and informed Rebecca of his findings. “Nobody at all? It would seem that the Twelve Monkeys distracted everyone before, and they never came back. There could be a connection. Actually, come to think of it, when I arrived there it was just me and them. It was as if they’d all... vanished. What could have caused everyone to disappear like that?” “That’s pretty weird. I can’t think how they could pull that off, unless they have a bunch of Abra or something. To be honest I think it’d be better to wait til...” Freddy burst through the door, panting heavily, and perspirating as usual. “...Freddy gets back... heh, perfect timing!” “You won’t believe what just happened! Follow me, quick!” Jason and Rebecca flowed Freddy out, deep into Route 30, where many of the trees that were there had seemingly vanished, the only trace being the craters left as their roots were ripped out of the soil. “Those trees were there before, right, and when I flew over they all started disappearing, into thin air, like! I mean, come on, that’s not even possible! What’s even weirder is that those guys with the monkeys were in those trees somewhere, and once the trees were gone, so were they! That’s messed up, man, seriously! Shit just vanishes with hardly a trace, and it just so happens that it’s when those guys turn up it happens. When they were back out near the town before, when they found that blue blob thing, everyone who gathered round vanished too! There must’ve been hundreds of em, and once I got out there it was just me, Rebecca and them. Good job we were last out, really.” “All those Pokemon back there in the centre, their owners are gone. I spent so much time nursing the poor guys back to full health and now they have nothing, and the worst part is we have no idea what’s going on. Well, Rebecca found out about what they did 14 years ago but that’s not really relevant now...” “It may not be relevant to our current situation, but it is still information nonetheless. Freddy, scout the area, see if there have been any other odd occurrences. Jason, I’m not sure how much use you’ll be, but I’m sure you can make it safely over to Violet City and make sure that everyone there is alright. I’ll make my way back to Cherrygrove and keep watch over the Centre.” “Right-o then. Staraptor away!” Freddy’s Staraptor swooped down, allowing his master to clamber up onto his back, and took off again, circling a few times before heading off to the north. Rebecca made her departure on foot towards Cherrygrove, leaving Jason to venture onwards to the nearby Violet City alone. -------------- In the faraway land of Isshu, Team Plasma had begun their conquest, using Genosect’s terrifying power to intimidate trainers into obedience. So far the whole of Sazanami Bay had been forced to hand their Pokemon and items over, and the mart’s supplies were confiscated before the Pokemon Centre itself was obliterated by a Techno Buster blast. Next would be the mysterious Black City, situated right next to White Forest, two places of ultimate contrast, one a haven for trainers and their trade, the other a sanctuary for wild species to roam. All the while, Boris looked on, grinning at his plan finally came to life. Soon, he would rule over this land, and from there would dominate the human race. Once Huin City was secured, he would have access to the docks, which could take him to any of the islands where Pokemon roamed, and the Trainers there would never escape... One trainer was offering resistance, Cynthia, formerly of the Sinnoh Elite 4. Her Garchomp was one of the few things that could stand up to Genosect, attacking with Earthquake after Earthquake, while Genosect fought back with its built-in flamethrower. It seemed like there was hope after all for the people of Isshu. As Garchomp became increasingly worn out, the attacks came faster and harder, and Genosect reached a higher capacity than ever before, felling Garchomp with a beam of ice. Cynthia retreated, flying away on the back of her Wargle. At this moment in time, it was all she could do. The most powerful Trainer of them all had been defeated by the technological wonders of Team Plasma’s creation, which became more powerful as it learned the attack patterns of its opponents, figuring out their weaknesses and building new weapons within itself in order to exploit them. This was the ultimate weapon, and in the war against the rest of the world it would be crucial... ----------- Jason reached Violet City, taking some of his own nutrition tablets to keep up his stamina and blood sugar. He hadn’t actually had time to eat anything that day, so it was a relief to at least have some source of nutrition with him. On the way there, he’d trained up his new friend Lucky against the weak Bug-types that inhabited Routes 30 and 31, but didn’t venture into the Dark Cave as he didn’t carry the TM flash. Lucky and Howard had become even greater friends than before along the way, teaming up to take down swarms of Weedle and Caterpie. Jason had no real reason for this other than to clear them out of the way, but he was at least courteous enough to leave behind nutrition tablets for the Pokemon he defeated. Violet City seemed normal, in the sense that people were going about their daily business and not cowering in fear at the inevitable apocalypse. There did seem to be something going on near the house to the left of the Pokemon Centre, though. Jason went to get a closer look, and found that there were two men discussing the probability of something. “...Are you suggesting that there may well be a multiverse, where all of the infinite possibilities branch off from the Master Universe and spawn their own parallel universes?” “That is exactly my postulation. How else can these mysterious occurrences be explained, and if there are no other universes, where does the wormhole lead to?” Jason slipped by unnoticed, and behind the house was the wormhole in question. Unnerving as it was to face an anomaly such as this, it was beautiful, an elliptical portal of radiant white light. It looked as though it would send whoever went through it to the heavens and beyond. ‘This seems a bit ridiculous, a gate to another world simply happening to be in the exact place I am...’ Jason thought, hesitant to investigate more in case there was no way back through. He decided to test this theory with a spare Pokeball and a piece of string he had in his pocket for some reason. It had probably come off one of his boxes of nutrition tablets, and the tablets themselves would soon be roaming the vast plains of Jason’s pocket, released from their square cardboard prison. The plan went swimmingly... until Jason realised there was nowhere to actually hook the string to on the pokeball. Then he remembered he had Akiro, the blunt sword that he would carry around to remind him of the pain suffered by those he healed, and usually kept sheathed along with a bunch of antibiotics, which had a tendency to leak everywhere. For once, he unsheathed Akiro and stabbed it into the portal, hoping that he wouldn’t poke someone’s eye out on the other side. After a few seconds he pulled it back out, finding it to be intact, which at least meant that he would be able to pass through safely. Making sure that Lucky and Howard were safely inside their Pokeballs for the journey, Jason made a leap of faith into the unknown abyss before him... ------------ Location: Violet City (for now) Status: Travelling into the unknown Pokemon: Howard (Psyduck), Lucky (Shiny Yuniran) Items: Nutrition Tablets, Potions, Pokeballs (Boxes and badges are currently N/A) (Live with the bare OP, I'm too lazy to edit shit into it. Lawrence's Road To Somewhere Chapter 1: New Beginnings “When the owners of one of the biggest companies in Hoenn die we can’t just believe everyone who turns up at the door and claims to be their son. You’re not the first to turn up here with that claim anyway.” --- The words echoed through Lawrence’s head. To be turned away from his own house by the closest friend of his parents who knew exactly who he was, it was an outrage. He’d not helped his case by shouting and being persistent though. The Police had been brought in to stop him which was when he was kicked out of the city. Lawrence Rivers, son of the recently deceased multi-millionaires Steve and Rebecca Rivers, stood on the edge of the mountain in the north west of Hoenn that contained the mysterious Meteor Falls. He was thinking back to the day his parents had been killed in a landslide a few days ago in the cave beneath him. They’d been on a family holiday together hiking through the mountains, one of the few times Lawrence got to spend time with his parents due to their work as the owners of Rivers Tech. He then remembered to how he’d returned home only to be turned away by the closest colleague of his parents who would assume control of the company with no confirmed heir. Lawrence’s train of thought was disrupted as he was brought back to reality by the sight of a Pokémon in the distance. This was what he was waiting for. The return of his only Pokémon, Hoothoot. It had flown north to Fallabor Town to collect food. Lawrence waved his arms in the air for his location to be known. Hoothoot saw its owner’s call and made its way towards him. Clutched in its claws was a large flat white box. It released its grip and the box fell into Lawrence’s arms. “Nice, pizza! And it’s still warm, just about.” Lawrence held the box open to see his evening meal. He could have easily caught a Magikarp and cooked it but he saw little point when there was a town filled with food that he could steal from. Each night he’d eaten something that Hoothoot had been able to steal without getting noticed. Usually, it was some sort of takeaway meal stolen while the delivery boy wasn’t looking. Lawrence walked along the mountain path with Hoothoot beside him until he reached a bundle of leaves and twigs that was an admittedly poor attempt at using a bush to disguise a cave entrance. He pushed it aside and climbed into the cave without putting the bush back as there was little point in doing so. Inside the cave was a small space of a few metres. There was a large rock that almost resembled a seat to one side and a bit of rock pointing out of the wall being used to hang a jacket. Below that was a rucksack containing everything Lawrence had left. It wasn’t much but this was home for him. Lawrence took his seat on the rock and ate his dinner, every so often giving a bit to Hoothoot. He then stopped for a bit and looked at his Pokémon. “Hey, Hoothoot, we can’t keep living like this… If we want to reclaim our old life we’ll need a hell of a lot of power to take down the new management. I suppose we could start a new life on the road or something. I’ve got nothing left to lose. What do you say?” “Hoot!” Hoothoot cheerfully responded. “Yeah, thought it’d be something like that. Tomorrow we start over…” --- “Ok, Hoothoot, here it is. Our half arsed journey to maybe do something while aimlessly travelling starts here!” Lawrence looked down at his Pokémon who was clenching its wing like a fist with a look of determination in its eyes. “Onwards! To that place over there, Fallabor Town I think it is.” Lawrence walked north with his partner at his side, hopes of a future that would help him forget his past and start over created a smile. But deep down he’d still remember his parents and how he’d seen them die, he knew it would haunt him. Lawrence stopped on a bridge and looked out across the river. He caught a glimpse of someone walking away from a small house near to the river, the person stopped for a moment and looked around. He saw Lawrence looking t him so Lawrence quickly turned his attention back to the water. He could see a number of Goldeen passing under the bridge. As soon as they’d disappeared underneath him Lawrence checked the person he’d seen leaving the house, he was now heading north towards Fallabor Town. He thought nothing of it and continued to admire the view. After a few minutes Lawrence began to head north again, as he approached the town he saw a group of people gathering. He stopped, wondering what a public gathering would be about. “…Are you sure that he’s the thief?” Lawrence listened in on the conversation and realised one of the people in the group had been the person who left the house. “I’d say so, how many people here have a species native to another region, let alone the same as the one that’s been stealing food? It’s not going to be a coincidence.” Lawrence had heard enough, these people wanted him and he assumed they’d want some sort of payment or compensation which he couldn’t provide. The question that remained was his course of action. He couldn’t exactly walk through and hope to go unnoticed but he couldn’t make a run for it as he’d be seen and chased and he highly doubted being able to outrun an entire mob. “Ok, sorry, it was me. I’ll come quietly.” Lawrence raised his hands into the air. The mob turned to see him stood with his Hoothoot as though surrendering. “That’s a confession if I ever heard one.” “Yep, now, take me to your leader. I believe a fair trial of sorts is in order.” “That’d be me; I’m the organiser of this mob. Surround him so he can’t escape, I want to listen to what he’s got to say before we make a citizen’s arrest.” A man stepped forward from the crowd. The crowd dispersed slightly into a circle surrounding Lawrence. “Ok, let’s see, I have no home, no family, no money and judging from what’s happened to me no identity. Look at me, I don’t even have a name apparently, crazy? I know. All the belongings I have are in this bag; some clothes, a couple of books, a Pokégear with little charge left, an umbrella, a scarf, a photo, 2 Pokéballs and a small project I’d been working on that doesn’t work. All there.” Lawrence took his bag off and threw it onto the ground. “See? I have nothing. I am no one, apparently, I don’t even exist.” “And you expect us to forgive you and maybe even take you in and provide for you because of that?” The man asked. He didn’t look particularly pleased. “Well… Yes I was actually. So look, I am stood surrounded, no plan, no hope. But! You forget one thing, one thing that I will put my faith in.” “And what’s that?” “Him.” Lawrence pointed to Hoothoot. “A Pokémon battle, one-on-one, winner decides my fate. That’s how people settle matters these days isn’t it?” “Fine… Let’s show ‘em Nuzleaf!” The man sent out a small grass Pokémon. Health and Good Fortune: Jason's Tale Chapter 3: The Other World Jason found himself in an unfamiliar place, yet somehow it seemed to be somewhere quite near to Cherrygrove. It certainly wasn’t Violet City, that he was sure of. The portal that he had entered this place through rippled with some sort of unknown energy. But why had it appeared where it had, behind a house in the innocuous town of Violet City? Jason decided to investigate and see if he could establish where he’d been spat out. The place was grim and almost colourless, the roads full of potholes and cracks, the buildings to the sides looked decrepit and abandoned, and there was a strange and awful smell in the air. He turned a corner, and stumbled upon the source of this horrific stench. Bodies, human and Pokemon, lined the streets, the pavements dyed red with the life fluids from within. Who could do such a thing? “You there! Stop!” “Huh?” Jason spun round, startled by the voice, and stood behind him was a young man who looked like he’d been through every war imaginable. At one time he may have been a respectable figure, but now he looked dishevelled, like the homeless man who occasionally stopped by the Cherrygrove Pokemon Centre for sandwiches. His hair was in no determinable style, it may have at some point resembled the Gallaghers, but now it was frayed as if it had been torched. His battered old jacket was worn at the elbows, and patches of other materials had been crudely sewn on in an effort to hide this. “Where the hell are you from, then? You can’t have been from around here. Everyone here’s dead.” “It’s kinda hard to explain...” Jason retold his story so far as best he could, occasionally interrupted by a gruff grunt from this rough old veteran (or rather, rough young veteran since he can’t have been much older than his early twenties). “Hmm... sounds plausible I s’pose. You wouldn’t know though being from the other ‘verse.” “So this is... another universe?” “If what you just told me’s true then yes. This is indeed an alternate version of your world.” “So, this is what could have happened in our world? All this destruction and death? This is... how can you still live here?” “I have no choice. The evil which inhabits this world hopes to consume all living things. Without me, this universe will die. I’m the only one who can do anything now, since the few others that were with me have gone...” “But where? And what caused all this... this suffering and anguish?” “That, my friend, is a long story...” Before he could carry on, a Mismagius with glowing red eyes appeared behind Jason, once he turned round, a group of Misdreavus with the same evil glowing eyes materialised around it. “RUN! NOW!” -------------- Rebecca had heard nothing of the status of either of her colleagues. It had been over an hour, and it shouldn’t have taken Jason that long to get back from Violet City, or Freddy to return from scouting the area. Sitting behind the desk usually occupied by the Cherrygrove Nurse Joy, the second cousin twice-removed of the sister of the Nurse Joy from Saffron City, she could see that the town was still pretty much empty. Kon the Teddiursa sat on the desk beside her, sucking on his honey-flavoured paws. Rebecca had had her first Pokemon since a fairly young age, and never managed to catch another, but that didn’t bother her, she had all the company she needed. She was just about to fall asleep from sheer boredom when the door flew open and Owen of the Twelve Monkeys entered. “Oh, they left you in charge here, huh? Well, ain’t that sweet, just you and me, here together...” “I have no intentions of letting you get away with this. Have you even considered the ethics of what you’re planning?” “Sure I have, and I don’t think it’ll be a problem once the kids shut up and get over it.” “How can you even think like that? You’re forgetting one vital detail here, and that’s your own Pokemon. Keeping that would be hypocrisy of the highest order.” “Eh, whatever. Why do you care about all this anyway?” “Because not only is your plan flawed in every way imaginable, I know for a fact that you will disobey the very regulations by which the rest of us would have to live. I can’t allow you to try and control us like that.” “Who said anything about control? If anything it’s about freedom, for the Pokemon and their trainers alike. Pokemon get to live out in the wild where they belong, trainers can carry on with their real lives and contribute something to society, like every other country in the world. And if they don’t wanna work, then that’s tough.” “So, you’re effectively creating a dictatorship, am I correct?” “Of course not, we’re not planning a military coup or anything, we just wanna shake things up a little. We’re not even stopping trainers from going out there and reclaiming their Pokemon once they’re released, we just want them to learn an important lesson, that there’s more to life than Pokemon!” “Even so, I won’t allow it.” “You’ve got no choice, once we crack the system, it’s unstoppable. It’s not just me, or the others you’ve met already, there are other groups dotted around in other places, Kanto, Sinnoh, hell, even Isshu has its own Army of the Twelve Monkeys. It’s like Starbucks, it’s everywhere, and there ain’t nothing you can do about it!” “What was the purpose of you coming here in the first place? Did you expect the place to be empty?” “Nope, just having a look around. Know your enemy, that kinda thing. Now if you don’t mind I’ll be taking the Teddiursa off your hands.” “You think I’d give in to your requests? Well you thought wrong!” Rebecca vaulted over the desk and delivered a swift kick to Owen’s face, knocking him to the floor unconscious. She dragged him outside, all the way out to the small beach on the west side of Cherrygrove, and left him out for the high tide to claim. After unclipping the Pokeball containing Yanappu from his belt, she headed back to work, satisfied that she’d managed to prevent a potential theft, and seeing the irony in her liberating the grass monkey from someone who wished for everyone else to dispose of their commodities. One thing that was curious about the whole event was the question of how Owen had actually appeared there, after all, hadn’t he vanished along with the trees? Rebecca tried not to dwell on it, instead wondering whether either of her colleagues would be back soon, and if so, whether they were any closer to finding out what was going on. ------------------ Jason and the experienced veteran of the alternate dimension had, at last, escaped the torment of the demonic creatures that now ruled over the land. “The cross keeps them back. They’ll not be getting in here with us.” “So, how exactly did all this come about?” “Well, my friend, that goes back a long way... This all started five years ago, with the death of a certain Ranger. He held the key to keeping these beasts at bay, and his death caused it to break, releasing the evil you see today. His killer, the one we know as Aren, tried to resist, but by this point he had lost almost all his humanity and was unable to stop the catastrophe. They took him, sent his soul to the darkness, and used his influence over mortalkind to destroy all living things. At the time, the world was going to shit anyway, corruption crippling the police, the governments, everything. Shortly before, one of the creations of Team Rocket almost killed me with some sort of incendiary blast. Luckily I wasn’t scarred, being away from its proximity at the time of the blast, but it did knock me unconscious into the ocean. When I finally regained consciousness weeks later, everything was gone. The world was as you see it now, a shell of its former self. Fortunately there were close allies of mine who had survived long enough to find me again. Of course, many others still lived on, but the majority of the population were wiped out while I was out of it. This is Ecruteak City, the place where it all started. We all converged here a month after the incident, after Aren’s duty was fulfilled and he was disposed of. That was when we discovered the true nature of these fiends. They are literal demons, from the world in which evil souls go after death. Aren’s soul resides there for all eternity, burning in the hatred and sin of others, while these demons watch over everything. Once we had managed to drive most of the fiends away, and discovered the power the cross had over them, we got to work on finding a solution. It was proposed that, using the waves emitted by the demons, allowing them to travel between realms, we would create technology to send them back to hell. That was five years ago, and there were 20 of us. Now, only I remain, and the furthest we ever got was creating a small amount of handheld portal generators. When we first tested it, immediately it was found that any Pokemon that went through the portals would die, unless inside a Pokeball. That was how we lost Lucario. Afterwards, it emerged that the demons physically could not enter these portals, the radiation they emitted repelled them, like a magnetic field. After this discovery, the aim changed. Escape was seen as the best option. Those who had not already been killed left this world, heading off into your dimension. At the time the technology was very unstable, and nobody knew exactly where they would end up, or in what time period. Time travel was never an intention, more a curious side-effect that was reported after the second test-run, in which one of our number was sent back 2000 years into the past, amidst a great war. Gideon, I think it was. He was one of the first to leave here, escaping in the dead of night, but leaving the generator behind so that others could follow. That was 1 year ago. In between then and now, gradually, the others either left this world or were killed. A lost child, found on our very doorstep, was sent through exactly as she had been found. We didn’t even name her, we just wanted to make sure she lived a better life than this. The last to leave, rather reluctantly I have to say, was probably the most intelligent of us all. His vast knowledge of the numerical ways helped us greatly with the technology. Before he left, he said something about honing his skills and pinpointing exactly where the portal would end up. Those were the last words I heard before today, and that was 2 weeks ago. Since then I’ve tried to see if it’s possible to simply use it to travel back, to the time that the event took place, and stop all this from happening. That’s why I must stay here. You should leave here before it’s too late. You have a life in the other world. I have nothing. Now go, before it’s too late! Portals stay open for about an hour, and only last 2 or 3 trips, so be quick. Take this generator just in case, and remember exactly where you were when you entered the first time!” After this massive monologue, explaining literally everything that Jason would ever need to know about this horrible universe, the mysterious war veteran urged him on, to leave and never return. Jason did exactly as instructed, passing the mounds of bodies the demons kept preserved for purposes of feeding, chased by their ghostly material forms, until reaching the portal seconds before it closed. Meanwhile, the veteran noticed something he hadn’t picked up on before. “There were three generators before...” ------------------- OOC: The darkest chapter is over with, and before you ask, yes, this is what happened to the Soul Dew RPG’s universe (maybe not what the last couple of writers were intending, but it was going that way pretty much). Lawrence's Road To Somewhere Chapter 2: Wrong place, right time. “Nuzleaf, Fake Out!” the man ordered. The Nuzleaf dashed forward and struck Hoothoot. Lawrence watched as his Pokémon flinched from the strike. “Hmmm.” Lawrence groaned while Hoothoot regained itself. “Razor Leaf, no mercy on this thief!” A wave of spinning leaves hit Hoothoot, knocking it back slightly. “Ok, Hoothoot, Tackle.” Lawrence ordered calmly. Hoothoot jumped up, flew at Nuzleaf and slammed into it and knocked it over. “Get up and use Razor Leaf again!” The man shouted. “Quickly, before it has chance to get up, use Hypnosis.” Hoothoot flew over Nuzleaf and its eyes glowed. Nuzleaf began to get up only to fall back down asleep. “Dammit, Nuzleaf, wake up!” “Shouting gets you nowhere… Hoothoot, Peck until it it’s defeated.” With a few simple strikes Hoothoot had knocked Nuzleaf about and woken it up. In its anger the Nuzleaf had tried to retaliate but was so low on energy it could barely stand. With one more peck to the back of the head Nuzleaf was down. “That wasn’t a fair fight! I don’t care if you won, you should still be punished.” The man had got very worked up over all this. Lawrence stood calmly looking at Hoothoot. “I’m sorry, but you agreed to it. I’ll stay the night in the Pokémon Centre and I’ll be gone by 9 tomorrow morning. I’ll only ever return when I’m ready to repay you. You have my word.” Lawrence picked up his bag and walked off towards the Pokémon Centre. “Don’t just stand there, stop him!” The man continued to shout. No one listened. The crowd slowly began to disperse leaving the man defeated and alone. --- “Good morning, how can I be of service?” The nurse asked as Lawrence walked up to the desk. “I got into a small bit of trouble with some locals, nothing serious but I’d like to get my Hoothoot healed up. I’d also like a room for the night and a chance to use the PC if that’s possible.” Lawrence placed a Pokéball on the counter and walked over to a group of computers in the corner. “Alright, you can have room 3.” The nurse called. He’d pick up the key later. Lawrence placed his bag down and logged onto the computer. This was his first chance at a computer since before going on the hiking holiday with his parents. Although he was away from his own computer he would still be able to access some of his file via online storage. But when he tried to log in the website wouldn’t let him. The error message said that the account didn’t exist. But Lawrence knew that it did, or at least should. He tried again, with no success again. “Odd… I think it’s been deleted. But why?” Lawrence then did a search and found the Wikipedia page about his parents. After a quick check through, he noticed that the bit mentioning their son had been deleted. All traces of him had been removed. It was as though he never existed. After a bit more searching to confirm what he thought Lawrence turned off the computer and went to his room while waiting for Hoothoot to make a complete recovery. He sat on the bed and took a small box from inside his bag. Placing it on the bed he opened it to reveal a cylindrical silver device, a few small tools and spare electrical parts. It was a project he’d been working on for a long time and was the second version after the first had exploded. This one wasn’t quite ready and didn’t work. But he thought he knew what do to. Several hours later Lawrence stood up and turned the lamp off. He looked at the silver device. He picked it up in both hands and looked at in amazement. He assumed it would work but needed to test it. He was then distracted by the sound of knocking. It was Nurse Joy. He held the device solely in his right hand and pointed it at the door. He pressed a button and following a short buzzing noise the door clicked. Lawrence grinned and stuffed the device into his jacket pocket. “Come in.” He shouted. “Oh, it appears to be locked.” Nurse Joy called back after rattling the door a bit. “Perfect.” Lawrence smiled to himself and went over to unlock the door. “Your Hoothoot is all better now.” Lawrence looked down and his Pokémon jumped up into his arms playfully. “Nice to see you too.” He put his Pokémon down and took the Pokéball from the nurse. “Also, would you like an evening meal?” “Oh, yes please, I haven’t got any money to buy one.” “That’s alright. We get travellers like you often.” Nurse Joy led Lawrence back to the main entrance hall of the Pokémon Centre. Lawrence sat at one of the tables next to the window and looked out, he’d spent so long working on the device he’d missed most of the day, but at least it worked after so long. The sun was now setting over the small mountain town. Lawrence ate his meal and watched as the sky clouded over and rain began to fall heavily. Lawrence finished eating when thunder began to roar, filling the night sky. He took his plate back to the counter and stood alone in the entrance. There was one other guest staying there but they had gone straight to their room and Nurse Joy was on her way back from showing him there. The doors swung open and a dark figure stood in the doorway. He walked slowly towards the middle of the room. He was a middle aged man with dark hair dripping over his face. His clothes weren’t waterproof and had been drenched in the rain. “The nurse is just showing someone to their room, she’ll be back in a minute.” Lawrence explained. “That’s just enough time for you to put your hands in the air and say nothing then aint it?” The man snarled and pulled a gun from his pocket pointing it directly at Lawrence. “Oh, ok, I guess it is…” Lawrence raised his hands into the air slowly. “Good, now we just wait for the nurse.” The man laughed. “What’s going on in here?” Nurse Joy entered the room and walked towards the counter before stopping when the man aimed the gun at her. “You’re going to hand over all the Pokémon you have here, otherwise, you and this guy here get shot.” The man waved the gun about pointing it at both his hostages. “But you can’t take them.” “Oh, but I will. Now, move over towards the counter.” The man pointed the gun at Nurse Joy and waved it slightly to indicate her to move towards the counter. Lawrence took the opportunity of not having a gun pointed at him to make his move. He reached into his pocket, pulled out the silver device and held it out at arm’s length pointing it at the gunman. “Ok, I’d be careful what you do.” Lawrence said calmly and pressed a button. There was a similar buzzing noise to before then he stopped and lowered the device. “What did you just do!?” The man pointed the gun at Lawrence and pulled the trigger several times. But there was no gunshot. “What!?” “I broke the trigger mechanism of your gun, rendering it useless. Other than of course that…” Lawrence leaned to the side to avoid being hit as the man threw the gun at him. “How did you do that?” The man stood looking scared in the middle of the room. “I could explain it but the chances are you wouldn’t understand it, I barely do.” Lawrence walked over to the man and pushed him over, grabbing his arms and restraining him. “Nurse Joy, I suggest you call the police.” --- “Can I ask, last night, what did you actually do to disarm that gunman?” Nurse Joy asked. “This.” Lawrence took the device from his pocket. “It’s a little something that I built based on the idea of the Sonic Screwdriver.” “Ok, well, how can I ever repay you for your heroics?” “I don’t expect anything, you expect nothing in return for the Pokémon Centre services. Anyway, I must be heading out. I made a promise to leave the town before 9 am.” Lawrence placed his bag on his back. “Ok then. Thank you again anyway.” The nurse waved as Lawrence and Hoothoot headed west away from Fallabor Town. Lawrence's Road To Somewhere Chapter 3: Welcome To The Desert As Lawrence entered Route 113 he stopped walking. The air was thicker, there was a smell of ash in the air. It seemed the route had been polluted by Mt Chimney. He reached into his bag and wrapped his scarf around his neck then used it to cover his mouth and nose. “Hoothoot, you’re best off in here.” Lawrence pointed a Pokéball at the Pokémon and it disappeared in a flash of red light. Further along the route the sky darkened due to the soot in the air. It seemed the volcano had been spewing out smoke recently. Lawrence preferred not to stop and look at the volcano, he had fears that it might erupt, although, he probably would have heard some warning in Fallabor Town. He headed onto Route 111and started walking south towards Hoenn’s desert. “This could prove to be painful…” Lawrence stood looking at the blistering sandstorm ahead of him. He’d heard about the desert and its never ending sandstorm but didn’t think it could really last forever. He also hadn’t realised how bad it was until seeing it up close. From standing nearby he estimated that visibility would only be a few metres. Lawrence shut his eyes and walked into the sandstorm of the desert, his feet digging into the sand slightly. The strong winds slowing him down and blowing his jacket about. Having his eyes open for more than a split second meant sand would be blown into his eyes costing him his vision until he could get out. “Help! Anyone!” The cry of a woman could be heard over the sound of the wind. Lawrence headed in the direction it came from. “I’m here! What’s happened?” “A Cacnea took my bag!” Lawrence heard the woman’s shout and looked around hoping to see a Cacnea somewhere. There was something green to his left moving away from him so grabbed his Pokéball. “Hoothoot, stop that Cacnea!” Lawrence watched as Hoothoot darted through the sandstorm. There was a cry and then a thud. It sounded like Cacnea had been hit. Lawrence walked over to it. He looked down and saw a Cacnea lying face down in the sand and a handbag on the floor next to it. He then saw some strange black markings in the sand near the bag. Ignoring the markings Lawrence reached down to pick up the bag only to stop as several sharp pains burst through his hand. “AAAAAH! The hell is that?” Lawrence clutched his hand to block the sand from the bleeding as he looked down. The black markings had moved and now revealed a sand coloured crocodile lying in the sand with the handle of the woman’s handbag in its teeth. “Are you ok?” The woman shouted over the wind as she walked over to Lawrence. “That’s a- That’s a Meguroko. I didn’t think they were actually real, let alone here. I just heard about them from those people talking about Isshu. Ok, Hoothoot, Peck.” Lawrence backed away slightly to allow his Pokémon to attack. As long as he looked down the wind wouldn’t blow into his eyes. The issue was his hand. If he moved his other hand from it the sand would blow into the wound and make it worse. “You’re going to battle it?” “I’m going to try and catch it, or at least make it let go of your bag. But I can’t use my hands because of the bite, there’s some Pokéballs in the back pocket of my bag, get one out and be ready to use it when I say. Hoothoot, Peck again.” Lawrence ordered. Hoothoot dived down and struck the Meguroko on the back. Meguroko tried to pounce and bite Hoothoot but it dodged by flying upwards. “Ok, ready.” “Right, Hoothoot, one more attack and then throw the Pokéball.” Hoothoot dived in for one more strike knocking the Meguroko to the side. The Pokéball flew and hit the Meguroko pulling it inside. The ball landed in the sand and wobbled. After a moment it burst open and Meguroko jumped at Lawrence biting the same hand again. Throwing Meguroko aside onto the floor Lawrence dived down and kicked the Pokéball at it. Meguroko was once again sucked inside. His hand was already exposed so using the other Lawrence reached into his pocket and pulled out his silver device. He pointed it at the Pokéball and held a button. The Pokéball clicked, the Meguroko was captured. Lawrence lay in the sand catching his breath from what he could inside his scarf. “Are you alright?” the woman picked up her bag and went over to Lawrence. “Apart from my hand, probably.” He sat up and shielded his eyes from the sandstorm again. “Here, these are mine but you’ll need them more than me as I know this desert better.” The woman then placed a pair of goggles on Lawrence’s face. He blinked for a moment and then could see better. He tried to stand up but fell over instantly realising his foot had been hit by the Meguroko when throwing it off. Lawrence returned Hoothoot to its Pokéball then put the two balls back in his pocket with his Sonic Screwdriver. The woman then helped him up and helped him walk south towards the edge of the desert. --- “Thank you.” Lawrence took the goggles off and handed them back to the woman before pulling the scarf from over his mouth, taking a deep breath of fresh air and falling onto the grass. “Mauville City’s not too far away. We’ll have you healing in no time.” “Nah, leave me, I’ll be ok. I can get there in my own time.” Lawrence wiped some off the blood on his hand into the grass. “You helped retrieve my bag in the desert and you’re seriously injured yet you won’t accept my help? That’s either incredibly heroic or incredibly stupid. I’m heading to Mauville City anyway so I insist that you let me help you.” The woman shouted at Lawrence. He looked up at her for a moment and then got up. “Ok, I just needed a rest and a chance to breath.” --- Lawrence’s eyes flickered open. He could see a bright light above him. He was lying on his back. After adjusting his eyes and taking a look around Lawrence discovered he was in a treatment room in a Pokémon Centre. “Are you feeling better?” Nurse Joy entered the room. “Uh, I guess so. What happened?” Lawrence rubbed his head and then realised his hand was fully bandaged up and was hurting less than it had done. “You passed out due to the blood loss from your hand before you made it back here. I heard what happened and you’re quite lucky that you still have a hand that will function normally again soon after bravery like yours.” “I thought you only treated Pokémon?” Lawrence sat up on the bed. “No, we just don’t get noticed for our work on humans as we rarely have human patients.” “Oh, ok. I see I’m in a clean change of clothes.” “You were out for quite a while. Your other clothes are currently drying.” --- “How are you feeling?” the woman asked Lawrence. “I’m better now, thanks for helping me out.” “I’d like to thank you for getting my bag back.” “You saved my life though, I don’t think the contents of any bag would make my deed more important.” “Well, I want you to have this, you demonstrated some good skill out there. You deserve this.” The woman reached into the bag and pulled out a small lightning bolt shaped badge and placed it in Lawrence’s hand. “This is a Gym badge? You’re the Mauville City Gym leader?” Lawrence looked from the badge to the woman. “That’s right, I’m Vivian. You deserve that badge even if just for your capture of such a rare and powerful Pokémon.” The woman smiled. “Wow, thank you.” Lawrence continued to look at the badge. Could this be the new life he’d been looking for? Going around collecting Gym badges? Although, the other badges he’d earn through battling the leaders. Lawrence's Road To Somewhere Chapter 4: How to save a life Lawrence now had some sort of purpose and direction, something to strive for. After a brief assessment of a map in the Pokémon Centre he decided he would head south to Slateport City then catch a boat to Dewford Island and challenge the Gym there. The route there was quite long but it’d give him a good opportunity to train up his Pokémon to be more suited to challenging the Gyms. He would have liked to stock up on some items before leaving but he had no money to buy anything with and just had to put up with some free bread from the Pokémon Centre. He chose the lower route of Route 110 due to the fact he’d have more chance to battle and that he couldn’t actually use the upper route due to lack of bicycle. Even though he didn’t really need it Lawrence decided to wear his scarf again, he guessed it could be helpful if there were cold sea winds or something of the like. As Lawrence stood at the edge of Mauville City looking ahead at his route with Hoothoot by his side there was a loud roar behind him. He jumped aside into a bush to avoid being hit as 3 motorbikes ripped past heading towards the cycle road. A moment later it was silent again as the bikes disappeared south at a great speed. After pulling himself out of the bush that he’d crushed Lawrence headed south towards Slateport City following the small path with water on each side. “Excuse me, can I have a battle?” Lawrence looked ahead to see a young woman holding a Pokéball. “Sure, why not?” he responded. “Is a double battle alright with you?” she asked. “I guess that’s alright. Hoothoot, you’re up.” Lawrence then went to grab his second Pokéball while Hoothoot flew into the space between the two trainers. “Plusle and Minum, let’s go.” The girl threw 2 Pokéballs into the air and two small yellow Pokémon emerged. “Come on Meguroko.” Lawrence sent out his second Pokémon. It was definitely less violent that it had been last time. He’d sent it out in Mauville to try and reason with his newly captured Pokémon only to almost completely lose his hand. But he seemed to have got through eventually. “What in the world is that?” the girl asked and got out a Pokédex. She checked it for a moment and then looked up. “Ok, that’s cool, didn’t think I’d ever get to see something like that.” “Hoothoot, Peck!” Lawrence ordered only to be interrupted. “Plusle, Helping Hand. Minum, Quick Attack!” the girl shouted and her Pokémon joined hands. They vanished instantly and reappeared and knocked Hoothoot out of the sky into the grass. “Sand Tomb!” Lawrence ordered and Meguroko attacked sending piles of sand to trap the pair of yellow Pokémon. “Now, Peck.” Hoothoot resumed its attack and struck Minum while the two tried to escape the sand with surprising difficulty. “Helping Hand and Spark!” The girl shouted. Hand in hand the two Pokémon attacked together again. This time easily jumping out of the sand and jumped towards Hoothoot while surrounded in sparks of electricity. Hoothoot dodged to hide behind Meguroko who took the hit without realising. “HELP!” the trainers looked up at the cycle road above them to see a man with a bike fll over the edge and start plummeting towards the water. “Hoothoot, try and separate the man and his bike.” Lawrence threw his bag down onto the floor and pulled off his jacket. He then dived into the water. Above him, Hoothoot flew across the water and slammed into the falling cyclist and knocked the bike away from him so that it didn’t hit him. Both man and bike hit the water and disappeared underneath. Lawrence was swimming underwater and could see the man falling ahead of him and swam in that direction. He grabbed the man in both arms and swam to the surface as fast as he could. As soon as the two emerged they gasped for air. Lawrence helped the man make his way towards the shore and then swam back to find the bike. Diving underwater again Lawrence saw the bike lying at the bottom on top of a Tentacool. It seemed to have been trapped by the bike. Lawrence moved the bike and the Tentacool slowly starting floating upwards, it seemed very limp but still just about moving but not strong enough to control where it was going. Lawrence then realised he needed air and dragged the bike up as fast as he could. It was weighing him down but he managed to get it to the surface and drag it to the shore slowly. “You didn’t have to retrieve my bike, really.” The man said from the shore. The girl had given him a towel from her bag. “I’m glad I did, it was crushing a Tentacool that I’m not sure will last much longer.” Lawrence pushed the bike onto the shore and then climbed out of the water drenched. “Can’t you do anything?” the girl asked. “Going to catch it and take it to the Pokémon Centre in Slateport. How far is it?” Lawrence reached into his bag and pulled out the last empty Pokéball he had. He threw it at the Tentacool as it floated to the surface. The ball clicked and floated to the shore due to the waves and the ripples Lawrence made in the water to push it closer to one of the small beaches. “What happened up there?” the girl asked the man. “I was attacked by some thugs on motorcycles and they took my bag and then threw me over the edge.” “Also, you should dry off.” The girl handed Lawrence a towel but he ignored it. “I’ve got to get to Slateport.” Lawrence picked up his jacket and bag then recalled his Pokémon. “Well, I’m coming with you.” “So will I, I was heading that direction anyway.” The man stepped forward. “Try and keep up, there’s a Pokémon’s life in the balance. I’m running.” Lawrence then ran south following the path to Slateport City. --- “Go on, hand over ya money.” “Hahahaha, wimp.” “Leave me alone.” “Ha! No!” “Do as he says.” Lawrence approached the group of 3 bikers stood over a knocked over cyclist. They were at the bottom of the cycle road just north of Slateport City. “What?” “I said do as he says, which means leave him alone.” Lawrence walked closer. “And who do you think you are to order us about like that?” the biker who appeared to be the leader of the 3 laughed. “I am no one, someone who doesn’t exist or have anyone or anything left in the world, someone who has nothing to lose so has no fear of the consequences of standing up for what’s right.” Lawrence stopped between the knocked over cyclist and the bikers. He raised his arm and with the push of a button on his Sonic Screwdriver device pointed at each bike the engines died down and smoke rose from the controls of the bikes. “What the hell?” one of the bikers cried out looking his bike. “What did you do?” “Your most prized possessions, now worthless.” “Why’d you break our bikes punk?” the lead biker grabbed Lawrence’s t-shirt and stared him in the face only to see a blank expression opposed to the usual look of fear he expected. “Why do you attack weak and innocent cyclists, steal their belongings and put their lives in danger? Now, leave these people alone and return what you took.” The biker didn’t take any notice and punched Lawrence in the face and threw him to the ground. “Not so tough now are ya?” “Hoothoot, retrieve the bag.” Lawrence got up slowly, threw a Pokéball and his Pokémon flew at the bikes and swiped a bag from the back of one. It returned the bag to the man with the bike and then Lawrence called Hoothoot back. “Gah, you little…” “I don’t have time for this.” Lawrence walked off into the city. The man and girl stood looking shocked as the bikers looked on in horror at what had just happened to them. The cyclist on the floor had squirmed and ran away in the commotion. “Who is he…?” the girl looked at Lawrence as he headed towards the Pokémon Centre. Then she and the man followed him leaving the bikers alone and defeated. --- “I’m sorry, your Tentacool couldn’t make it and passed away. I’m so sorry but it was unavoidable.” Nurse Joy stood outside the operation theatre with Lawrence. He looked at her for a minute and then punched the wall in front of him. “WHY!?” He shouted. “I-“ “This isn’t right! No matter who I help, no matter what I do someone is always going to suffer. It’s not going to make a difference, those bikers won’t change. Nothing will. There is no justice!” Lawrence slammed against the wall against and then turned around and slumped onto the floor leaning against the wall. “Are you Ok?” The nurse asked. “Just leave me here for a bit.” Lawrence looked at the opposite wall with his soaking wet hair dripping over his face. No matter how fast he’d got here it would have been too late to save the Tentacool. He didn’t know why it mattered so much but it did. The drive to save its life and the life of the man who fell off the cycling road had been stronger than when he’d thought about collecting badges. Health and Good Fortune: Jason's Tale Chapter 4: Extravagance The portal closed behind Jason the moment he entered it, sealing off the doorway to the other world. There was nothing else for it but to go forwards, into the light, and land right back in Violet City, where the whole business had started. Jason dusted himself off, checked over himself to make sure he’d left nothing behind, and discovered that one of his boxes of nutrition tablets had been lost on the journey back and was now spinning through the void. Now that he was back in a familiar, relatively safe environment, Jason felt relieved, mainly because he’d survived quite possibly the greatest adversity he’d ever have to face, and he had knowledge beyond the comprehension of the rest of the universe, quite literally. With this in mind, he made his way back to Cherrygrove, as Violet City seemed to be fine now that the portal had gone. ------------- The land of Isshu was now overrun with paranoia, as tales of Team Plasma’s deadly new weapon, Genosect, spread across the island. Huin Docks was crowded with Trainers trying to flee to Sinnoh, where they would be safe for the time being. Many others stayed well away from the cities, hiding out along the routes and in Yaguruma Forest, hoping that they would at least be safe for the time being. From Sazanami Bay, Team Plasma spread out towards Black City and White Forest, Genosect clearing the path ahead. Cynthia had already beaten the villains to it, urging those in the city to make their way south, at least for now. Some trainers stayed behind, confident that they could take on Genosect and Team Plasma, not understanding the true power of this monstrosity. Even Cynthia’s personal warning didn’t put them off, as they stood guard by the entrances to the contrasting city and forest. Little did they know of the destruction that was to follow. “Before we begin, is there anyone here who has a decent fire-type with them?” “I have Kuitaran, is that good enough?” A man with a jacket and scarf stepped out in front of the rest of the crowd, proudly displaying the pokeball his Snipe Anteator-esque Pokémon was in. “Anyone else?” “...” “Fine, we’ll just have to work with what we’ve got. This is the last warning, anyone whose team is not at least fully-evolved, with maximum points in effort, and items to enhance each team member’s capabilities, preferably with some thought going into the process of constructing the team, leave, or risk total and complete humiliation when Team Plasma arrive.” The crowd began to break up, many trainers realised they didn’t fit these simple criteria and followed the others south to the Wonder Bridge to await further instructions. Those who remained readied their strongest Pokémon, not using their leads since entry hazards wouldn’t really make much of a difference when it came to fighting multiple opponents with hardly any room to switch. Cynthia, still riding her Wargle, watched over the horizon, awaiting the oncoming storm of Team Plasma’s grunts, led by Boris and his mechanical contraption, Genosect. Those remaining on the route would not hold out long, unless an attack was mounted on the Fertility Shrine first, which seemed rather unnecessary since there was nothing to gain from capturing it. After torturously long minutes, the wait was over and Team Plasma were upon them, their rampage in Route 14 over with. One trainer with a Walrein had tried their luck with Sheer Cold, freezing Genosect solid, but armed with the Flame Cassette, it quickly thawed the ice before striking its enemy down. It was after this that Genosect, self-aware and still learning of its own capabilities, discovered it could use its Techno Buster as a jetpack to attack aerial enemies, sparring with a Swellow in mid-air. The Kuitaran from before flickered its molten tongue, trying to melt the Bug/Steel monstrosity, but only succeeded in leaving a slight mark on one limb. By manoeuvring itself underneath the hovering cyborg, it began to gain strength from the flames keeping Genosect in the air, blasting a Team Plasma grunt with Purgatory. Its partner in the battle, a Doryuuzu, slashed a Weavile that attempted to attack from the side, fainting it in one hit. Genosect focused its aim on Cynthia’s Wargle, a huge blast of flame sending it hurtling through the air at high speeds, catching the bird off-guard for a moment and seemingly sending Cynthia to her death until the brave bird went into Free-Fall and intervened with her meeting with the ground in the nick of time. Genosect fired its Techno Buster downwards, the blast burning the surrounding area and wiping out several trainers in the process. Down on the ground, the Team Plasma’s sheer numbers and underhand tactics had led the majority of the defending trainers into retreat, fleeing with their Pokémon, but not their pride. Others had not been so lucky, some injured by the flaming fury of Genosect, the rest simply overpowered and forced to hand over their remaining Pokeballs. The trainer who owned the Kuitaran had not backed down, working alongside an engineer with an Electivire, he had successfully wiped out several grunts, breaking up the ranks and driving Team Plasma back towards Route 14 almost single-handedly. “Genosect, deactivate! I have a plan...” The demonic fossil fiend stood still for a moment, and Boris ejected the Flame Cassette from its cannon, inserting an Aqua Cassette into the same slot, before re-activating his greatest creation. “Use the Techno Buster to extinguish their hopes!” Genosect obeyed its master without question, the way it had been programmed, blasting the Kuitaran with a torrent of water, before a resonation of sound vibrations was used to cripple the Electivire. Cynthia used this opportunity to escape yet again, Wargle recovering remarkably from the previous attack, since Genosect concentrated its offensive efforts into its Techno Buster attacks rather than physical strength. This time, she would be heading for Wonder Bridge, hoping to get everyone across it before Team Plasma arrived on the scene, as she suspected that they would try to destroy it to prevent any stragglers getting away. “Yes, run while you can, my beauty. Nothing can interrupt our plans if this is the best you can muster...” ------------ “...and that’s pretty much what happened.” “Somehow I find all that hard to believe. Far less plausible than taking out a potential criminal, at any rate.” Jason had returned to Cherrygrove at last, and recounted his tales of the other world to Rebecca, who had remained on watch the whole time, only leaving to deal with Owen’s interruption. These escapades were, as to be expected, too far-fetched for anyone who had not seen it with their own eyes to believe, but Jason was in no position to use the portal generator. The risk of exposing others to this world were too great, Rebecca would have to be content with his word. “So... looks like Freddy isn’t back yet. Wonder what’s taking him so long?” “He may be travelling across the whole of Johto, even though he was only supposed to check the surrounding towns within a small radius. It would help if he’d taken his Pokegear with him so I could at least establish some form of contact. Same goes for you, Jason, although if what you say is true it wouldn’t have made much difference anyway.” Jason always forgot things like that. In his childhood he’d often get into trouble for not bringing equipment to Trainer’s School or being late home because he got lost on the way back. Fortunately his parents weren’t too harsh on him, they at least acknowledged that he was a little absent minded, but even knowing this they would always ask him what had taken so long, and decided that until their son was ready, they wouldn’t let him have a Pokémon of his own, which is why he ended up working at the Pokémon centre instead. Of course, there were still a few mishaps there, but the efficiency of the revolutionary nutrition tablets and the boosts in profit they brought outweighed the negatives. Rebecca’s past was more mysterious. All Jason really knew is that she was adopted by a well-respected family, and that her adoptive brother was a legendary trainer who’d conquered the Johto League once before, then went on and became the champion of Hoenn as well. At one stage he was dating the equally extravagant Platina Berlitz, but for some reason the relationship broke down and the Berlitz and Brooks family separated. Both parents didn’t tend to venture out amongst the lower classes, instead running Brooks Enterprises from their decadent mansion on Route 45. The company, despite its grandeur, was simply a manufacturer of car tyres and Christmas tree lights, occasionally producing pairs of handmade socks to certain privileged customers. It was an odd company, but nevertheless made enough money for a very comfortable lifestyle. “Well, no use just standing around out here, may as well go in.” “Of course. You should probably pick up your Pokegear while you’re inside, since you carelessly left it on the counter before you left.” Jason and Rebecca entered their workplace, with nothing much to do but try and see if they could solve this mystery of the Twelve Monkeys. ----------- “...I’m sorry sir, I couldn’t help it. She was too fast!” “Oh come now, you should be more than a match for a woman of her physique. Why, from your description she seems the type that would not stand against the morning breeze. And to think such a person managed to knock you out cold.” “You weren’t there, sir. You don’t know what she’s like...” “Oh, I can guess. It seems she found some humour in robbing your Yanappu, since it fits in so well with our goals, which you let slip. Honestly, Owen, I thought by now you’d have learned to keep quiet.” This was the headquarters of the Army of the Twelve Monkeys, in an undisclosed location only members could find. Owen had managed to find his way back, only to be given a major disciplinary hearing upon his return. The intercom on his boss’s desk crackled, interrupting the discussion and dragging Owen’s torture out longer. The leader of the Twelve Monkeys leaned closer to the microphone on his desk, to enquire what was so urgent as to disrupt an important lecture on how not to treat your enemies. “Sir, our Isshu branch have been wiped out! We’re getting no contact whatsoever! Looks like Black City got hit!” “Such a shame. My homeland was peaceful once, but now, my former organisation have resumed the very project I personally stepped in to halt, and they’re using it for completely the wrong reasons. I can’t allow it!” “What do we do, sir?” “Don’t worry. Just sit tight. I have just the thing...” The leader calmly rose from his desk, before diving through the window. “NO! SIR! COME BACK! Oh wait, this is only the first floor...” Before Owen’s boss hit the ground, a huge white dragon swooped down and saved him from possibly gaining a few injuries. “I knew you’d arrive in the nick of time. Full speed ahead!” The dragon blasted off into the distance, and now Owen was temporarily in charge. This time, the Twelve Monkeys would succeed in their plans... ------------------ Location: Cherrygrove Status: Getting back to work despite the drought of customers Pokémon: Howard (Psyduck), Lucky (Yuniran) Items: Nutrition Tablets, Potions, Pokeballs |
