This was the third and last installment of the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy. In this movie, KingGhidorah returns to earth but for a different reason this time. In the past, he came to earth and killed off all the dinosaurs. This time, he's here to kill off the children. Ofcourse, we all know that Mothra isn't going to let this happen. So Mothra takes to the skies to try to defeat GKG. Yea. We all see how this is gonna end. Mothra went into the past and kicked GKG's ass. Unfortunatley, one of his tails came off. He dissapeared in the future only to come back again thanks to his severed tail buring itself to help him come back. Mothra's ancestors find her injured body in the past and put her in a timecapsul so she will reappear in the future, her being 1998, to stop GKG and kill him. She does succed at stoping him. She defeats him as being Armor Mothra. After she defeats him, she transforms one last time into Eternal Mothra. There were two other transformations. One into Lightspeed Mothra and the other into Armored Mothra. Like the other movies I posted a shot kinda review on, there are some things I would have done differently. 1.) Instead of kids, I would have put adults here and focused the movie aroung Mothra, GKG and the adults. No more kids in the Mothra Movies. 2.) Umm.... Whatwas up with Belvera in this movie? I would have put in a little story as to why she had changed from the first two movies. Yea. That's about all for this review. |

Of all the 90's Mothra films Mothra 3: Invasion Of King Ghidorah(1998) is easily my favorite. I'll go into some reasons why a little later. |

Why I like the third 90's Mothra film the best: 1. there's a scene of city(and urban) destruction caused by King Ghidorah, unlike the first ROM film and the very brief landfall of Dagarah in ROM 2. 2. the rendering of KG, which I thought was outstanding: the monster is absolutely gigantic and the best looking KG, IMO, since the 1964 "Ghidrah" film. 3. the sacrifice of Moll, who relinquishes her own power in order that Mothra can travel back in time to fight an adolescent KG. It showed to me what these two "good" fairies were really made of. 4. Armored Mothra: a very cool looking version of Mothra and plausible as this monster would absolutely need an enhancement of this kind in order to engage a physically larger opponent monster possessing powerful beam weapons. |

An update on the Region 1 DVD release of this film: Mothra 3 was originally announced as being released by Sony Home Video later this year. The release has not been outright canceled but has apparently been delayed. |

Back To The Future: Mothra 3 - Invasion Of King Ghidorah(1998) Revisited Recently I watched my DVD-R of Mothra 3: Invasion Of King Ghidorah(1998), the third and final 90's "Rebirth Of Mothra" film. This movie is easily my favorite of the three "ROM" films made. I watched the movie on a copy of the Region 2, in widescreen and with English subtitles. Some observations, both positive and negative: Thumbs up: 1. The rendering of King Ghidorah in this movie: the monster, while obviously formidable in the other films he's starred in, is an absolute leviathan in this film, the heads looking very malevolent and the monster projecting an awesome aura of power and menace 2. Belvera finally treating her sisters Moll and Lora like, well, sisters. 3. The sacrifice of Moll in this movie: it didn't surprise me at all that she would step up and do what she had to do, even if it put her own life in jeopardy 4. The beam weapons of the monsters, which I've seen used in other movies ad nauseam: they seemed to be used abundantly in this movie...but not to excess 5. The rendering of "Armored Mothra": this Mothra is armored and dangerous 6. the sequences, albeit somewhat brief, of city destruction courtesy of King Ghidorah's flyovers. It was a refreshing change to see an enemy monster of Mothra in these 90's films destroy and incinerate something besides forests and woodlands 7. Belvera's boots: nice! :thumbs-up: Thumbs down: 1. "Shota Sonoda", the young hero of this movie. Hero or not it was revealed he was skipping school in the film, not very cool in my book 2. The rendering of the dinosaurs during the sequence where Mothra is in the past. The dinos were rendered by use of what appeared to be animatronic puppets. I've seen other web reviews of this movie blast this sequence of puppetry arts, and after watching it again I can understand why My rating for this film: 7/10 The Toho trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6Lp2ECqCD8 |
