Welcome to Mothra's Universe. This board was created on June 25, 2008 by the late Stephanie Minder for the casual and friendly discussion of Mothra in cinema, on television and on DVD.

The founder of this message board, "Moonlight Mothra"(Stephanie), has passed away after a long illness. She died on March 31, 2012.

At present this board is NOT accepting new member registrations and is simply a "memorial" if you will to the late Stephanie Minder, the founder of this site and a beautiful young woman who passed away on March 31, 2012.

The admins are still looking for someone interested in maintaining this message board and re-starting postinng activity but thus far no one has come forward to volunteer.

The ultimate G2KUSA Fan. I have spoken to Michael Schlesinger 5 times. I know stuff you don't. I am part of the staff. I have seen GMK in theaters. I am haveing one of my interviews being published in G-FAN MAGAZINE. Those are the only accomplishments I have accomplished so far in the kaiju fandom.

I do not believe these two films can be fairly compared to each other...and that's all there is to that. ;)

I agree with Packmule, both films are very different and are made many years apart. ;)

However if this was "What film do you like more - Gojira or Gamera 3?" topic then my answer would be "Gojira", since I like Godzilla more and I enjoyed it more then G3, which is a good Kaiju film, but IMO its pacing was a little off and I felt a little disappointed in it after Gamera 2 (Which is my favorite film out of the trilogy). :)

As would be mine. ;)

I cannot understand why folks continue to try and compare, critically, two films made in 1954("Gojira") and 1999("Gamera 3"). The differences afforded Inoshiro Honda in 1954, and Shusuke Kaneko in 1999, regarding existing technologies in audio and video effects, are too different to make judging these movies side by side possible.

^But you can still compare acting and story structure and character development.

Yes you can, but that only covers those things and does not include audio effects, video effects(which include visual effects, suit effects, lighting, miniatures, etc) and marketing(the ability to mass market a film in 1954 was much more limited than in 1999).

If you cannot compare two films while including each and every facet of their production...then you can't do it fairly. Just my opinion. ;)

Why the hell would marketing effect the quality of a film?

Why the hell would marketing effect the quality of a film?

Marketing would not directly affect the "quality" of a film, the word "quality" a subjective term by the way. Marketing would affect how a movie is perceived by those watching it, or those considering watching it, such as advance trailers, promo TV spots and other blurbs about a movie that show up in magazines, newspapers and such.

A film like Gamera 3 could be marketed to reach much more potential viewers because of satellite and cable broadcasting technology, both of which didn't exist back in the early 1950's when films like Gojira were being made.

Marketing effects a person's POV of a film? People should make a POV of the film itself, not the marketing.
