I have done some research on wired and bluetooth intercoms. After a lot of time concentrating on the Bluetooth, I realized that dealing with dongles and battery charging is actually worse than dealing with one cord. Then I started looking into inexpensive wired intercoms that are able to integrate FRS, CB, Cell, GPS, etc. My BMW K1200LTE has a factory system built for BMW by J&M Audio. It has voice activated intercom, radio, Ipod, cell phone, CB, FRS, GPS, and radar integration built in. It is prioritized allowing you to begin talking and the audio from radio, Ipod, etc mutes until you finish talking, then comes back on automatically. If a cell call comes in, it takes priority. GPS audio directions override also. Thinking that some day I may want a bike that doesn't have all this available, I decided to look around to see if I could set up a system. Along comes the J&M Integratr 4. This unit came out in 2006 after J&M had built the system for BMW. It is portable and can be carried in a belt pouch, but also can be mounted and powered from the bike. In 2006 this unit was priced at $269 for the basic unit...but many cables were needed at extra cost to connect the peripherals. It got really expensive fast. Today the price has dropped drastically...take a look at this link from Sierra electronics....not only has the unit price dropped, the accessories are much more reasonable now. Main unit $69. http://www.sierra-mc.com/products.asp?cat=229 I'd love to hear some opinions on this setup and especially from anyone that has real time experience with it. Ron |
