I read about it in the newsletter, heard about it in the news and of course saw tons of posts about it on Facebook. And it was a shock. At first I thought it might be a wrong news but nope, he really died today at the Age of 76. If you think about that he got told he only would live like 2 years when he was diagnosed with ALS he sure proved the doctors wrong. It though is a huge lost to the world, not only the scientific one, he was also great as a person. And as I've heard he had a great sense of Humor. Him appearing several times at "The Simpsons" is a sure sign for it.

Stephen Hawking was a genius, a wise man and an inspiration. His book "A brief history of time" got me back to astronomy, more than I was interested in it before. He triggered my hunger for knowledge, my wish to learn how the world and the universe work. Despite his handicap he worked hard, his mind was so full of thoughts and he never let his disability stop him from doing what he loved to do. We all can learn so much from him.

Stephen Hawking went to the stars and he will never be forgotten! Rest in Peace Stephen Hawking you will be missed by many many people!

On a side note. Stephen Hawking died on the date (3.14th) where Albert Einstein was Born and he was Born on the date when Galileo Galilei died.

I don't know. All I know is that he died peacefully at home.

It is sad that the man who studied black holes all his life doesn't live to see the first ever taken pic of a black hole which shall get published this year.

I would read his books, but I fear I would be woefully out of my depth.

I liked "A Brief histroy of time". I think I also own "the universe in a nutshell" but it is somewhere hidden so I haven't read it yet.

I meant that many people know him as scientist but not so many know him as private person.
