A hydrogen-powered engine, in addition to being up to 10 percent more efficient than its petrol-powered counterpart, produces zero harmful emissions. When BMW decided to take the liquid hydrogen route for its Hydrogen 7 luxury car its biggest challenge was to how to develop a tank to safely store the fuel:hydrogen liquefies at -253 Celcius. And then the BMW engineers had to come up with a system to safely convert the liquid back to the gaseous state required for combustion.![]() Here's a first: a liquid hydrogen-fueled V12 engine that can output 230+ hp. This bi-fuel engine - set to go on display at NHA (National Hydrogen Association) 2006 - will be placed in a limited run 7-series model and is capable of burning gasoline or liquid hydrogen. perhaps the beginning of evo?.. |
