These rules are a basic outline. Please use common sense when posting as well as considering the rules.

1: To the best extent you can, be kind to other members. You aren’t obliged to be friends with anybody, but at least be polite and avoid allowing conversation to degrade into insulting and arguing. Calm and mature debating is, of course, okay in the relevant place, but scraps over personal issues are not permitted. Also respect freedom of speech and opinion; just because somebody has a different view on a topic to you does not give you the right to flame them. Similarly, even if you do have a negative opinion on something, please try to express it calmly rather than just ranting about it constantly and immaturely. Moderators should punish flaming logically; however no more than three levels of warning may be given for it.

2: Please try to stay on-topic in threads. Of course the conversation will inevitably at some point drift to another topic, but in these cases it is advised that a separate thread be made for the new topic. You may also request for a moderator to split the thread for you. The punishment for a post which is vastly off-topic (i.e. spam) is a single warning.

3: Don’t revive old thread unless you have a very good reason to. An exception to this is language/lesson threads. Challenges will expire after a period of time; don’t post in them after this. The general ‘age’ for a thread to be considered dead is one or two months. Bumping is punished with one warning level.

4: Type coherently. Please try to use as correct English as you can for the convenience of people reading your posts. Also ‘chatspeak’ is pretty much forbidden beyond the occasional ‘lol’ or whatever if you really wish. Substituting words and letters for numbers and using excessive self-convenience acronyms is disallowed though. Similarly, do not overuse image emoticons as they can get rather annoying. Also, please, never attempt to use chatspeak when speaking in a non-English language, chances are nobody except possibly you will understand it. Minor cases of incoherent typing will result in a simple, unrecorded verbal telling-off from a moderator, but excessive cases could result in a level one warning.

5: Do not post multiple times in a row. If you have something else to say in a thread but nobody has posted since you last did, simply edit your previous post with the handy button labelled “Edit”; it’s what it’s there for. As with chatspeak this can result in an unlevelled warning or a level one.

6: Keep profanity to a minimum; you may swear and curse but, once again, not constantly. Also pornographic content (whether images, videos or fiction) is disallowed. Excessive swearing will be punished with a single warning, or, with major cases, your posts will all be checked by a moderator before coming visible (The amount of time for this will be determined by the moderator in question; it can be anything from three days to two months depending on severity) while pornography can be punished by anything up to and including a full ban.

A note on warnings:
Moderators will give warnings according to offenses that members commit. Where a rule mentions a number of warning ‘levels’, this means that your warning bar will be increased by the number indicated. The bar limits at five, at which point you will be banned for thirty days. Upon becoming unbanned, you shall return with a cautionary warning level of two.

Your warning level shall decrease by one every seven days after your last warning was received. It will always decrease by only one per week; even if you received three levels at once, it will take twenty-one days for you to reach zero again.
