It was snowing in Grand Chokma. Just a little, actually. It would melt come morning, but, in the moonlight, the snow sparkled and made the world seem something out of a dream. Tear Grants was not one to let a dream world pass her by, and so she was walking on the quiet streets, savouring the scent of snow in the air while enjoying the mild temperature. She was not entirely alone. There were other groups about, talking, some rushing to get home, other complaining that Grand Chokma was not meant to get such weather. There were a few others like her about, enjoying the evening. She went to the grand park, leaving all those strangers behind. The garden was full of untouched snow, no foot prints but for the odd squirrel that had been shocked by the sudden white, or rabbits, or even a bird. The snow had come after the sun went down and most animals were asleep. There was the crunch of footsteps on snow behind her and she turned to look at the figure who had, perhaps begrudgingly though he wouldn't admit it, agreed to join her on her journey into this world of sparkles and magic. He was from a place where snow was the norm most of the year. She was from a place where the stars had not been visible at night, only lighting at any time of day or night. There was no blue sky there, and here there was no purple mist, and there never would be again. It was for the better, and yet, she would miss the swirling purple mist. She giggled at the deadpan face, turning to look at the gardens, green even that morning. White now. They seemed as if they would be white forever more, as if there was nothing for them but the white snow. She took a few steps, savouring the sound of the snow under her feet, the flakes that fell on her hair. She twirled, faster, faster, faster until she became dizzy and fell on her back, giggling and blinking the falling snow away even as it rested on her eyelashes. At last, she stopped, going still and smiling. She didn't turn to him, she knew he was there even if he said nothing. Speaking could break the spell of the night and so, she whispered. "Beautiful, isn't it?" |

Jade stood and watched her, tickling, ever so gently by how she could be childish at times. It was cute in a way he'd never admit either to himself and especially not to her. How she did so after everything she'd been through both before and during the journey was a marvel. When she spoke, Jade was almost surprised. Just her laughing and the cold, icy snow crunching underfoot had been the only sounds until then. He sighed lightly. "I suppose snow doesn't enchant me anymore." His voice was barely above a whisper, as if leaning to her whims. He sounded a tad... Well, jaded at the admission, as though it'd been true for a while- as it probably had, but he wasn't going to dampen her spirit as much as he could. |

On another day, maybe that tone would have hampered her mood, but not tonight. Nothing was going to dampen her mood tonight. Not the cold seeping into her clothes and her skin, not the fact that it was late and she would have to get up early for work. She didn't even let thoughts like that enter her mind. She was a teenager, she thought to herself. She was allowed to have moments of pure frivolity. It wouldn't have been all that long ago that she wouldn't have allowed anyone to see those moments of 'weakness'. Now, she couldn't be happier to share them with him. She stood up and carefully walked to a clear spot of untouched snow before falling back to the ground, spreading her arms and legs to make a snow angel. it didn't turn out all that well. Lack of experience. It wasn't what one did while training to be a soldier, as she had been doing during that first sight of snow in Daath, it wasn't what one did when one was on a mission to save the world and kill one's brother. Those weren't the times, they weren't the frames of mind one needed to be in. This, though, when one was happily in love with a wonderful man and there was nary a care in the world and she had fewer responsibilities than ever before in her life... This was certainly the best time to do such things, even if she wouldn't do them with just anyone about. She had an image that she protected fervently. Jade, however, didn't have any of those illusions of her any more. Not a one. He, however, was still very similar to the Colonel she had met in the Chegle woods so long ago. Not to say he didn't lighten up and was more comfortable being himself around her, but the 'him' that was the Colonel and the 'him' that was the private Jade Curtiss were not vastly different. Sometimes, she had the nagging feeling that he went along with things she wanted to do to make her happy. Like right now. Partly to humour her, partly to make sure she didn't do something foolish and get hurt or get attacked, as if she couldn't take care of herself. She didn't mind that too much,it was sweet of him, but she was careful. She didn't want to tire him out in his 'old age'. She could laugh at that. Jade acted older than he really was. She did that too, most of the time. She sat up, grinning with her back to him, taking a handful of snow so he couldn't see. She giggled as she packed it in and stood up, hiding it as she walked to him and hugged him, seemingly out of pure child-like affection. But no. That little ball of snow, Jade, was going down your neck. And she giggled a loud as she ran from the almost certain chase. |

Jade watched her, keeping close enough that he was around, but not to impede her running about. When she finally got up and ran to him, Jade offered a light chuckle. Whiiiich was quickly cut off by Jade shrinking up and letting out a surprised noise. As she ran away, Jade reached out to try to grab her quickly, but she was just out of his cold-shortened reach. He smirked after her, then scooped up some snow quickly and formed it before throwing it at her retreating back. he didn't remember the last time he'd had a snowball fight. Oftentimes, the Professor would encourage them as team-building activities. In those cases, Jade usually participated due to not wanting to fail a class based on a silly thing. Pelting Dist with snow was always entertaining as well. |

She giggled as she ran, and even more when the snowball hit said retreating back. He was good, just what she would have expected from a seasoned opponent. Well, first rule of combat, play to your own strengths. She took cover behind a shrub and tried forming a snowball. She packed it as she had seen children do, judged the balance by tossing it slightly to get a feel for the weight. She checked his position quickly and tossed, aiming for his shoulder. Before she confirmed the hit, she was making a second ball and trying to find better cover, somewhere she could build up some ammunition... Oh hey, the gazebo. Toss that second ball and see her dash, giggling aloud. |

Jade turned to hide behind a tree at the first snowball clipped his shoulder. The second whizzed by his head a foot away. He chucked his own at her, then stooped to grab another before he chased after her. He couldn't help the smile that did eventually assault his face, throwing the new wad of snow at her. He spotted the gazebo and guessed that was where she was headed. He went around the other side, planning to meet her in the middle. |

She reached the gazebo first, ducking behind the fence as she made a few balls of snow quickly. Once she was done, she peeked over the edge, ready to bombard him with her fearsome skill. She stopped mid-swing when she couldn't see him. There was no sign of him behind any of the obvious choices of cover, and no hint until she saw a few footprints left that were certainly not hers, too large and too long a stride. She traced them, ball in hand, until she understood just where they were headed. She turned, hoping she was not too late. |

Jade threw the snowball at the gazebo as he ran in an attempt to spook her or throw her off. In the meantime, he continued to run around the gazebo until he had a straight shot to her. Snowball of now, he ran towards her and ducked himself down to slide in the snow on his knees and bowl her over like a snow-covered speeding train. |

She was woefully unprepared for his charge though she attempted to stave him off with the remainder of her snowballs. The bounced ineffectively off his back, unheeded. She let out a cry, half laughter, half terrified scream, though not all that loud. Once he had successfully bowled her over, she laughed quietly. "I surrender!" |
