Hi every1! This is Ka0ticEff1gy here to tell you about my latest accomplishment: COMPLETING BRANCHES OF DARKMEYER! Background: My original goal for this quest was to use the experience to boost my herblore lvl from 82-83 so I could pot up to make super antifire potions. Then after completing the quest and successfully doing this I realized that the greenman ale (m) are 58k ea so I abandoned that. During the quest, I died roughly 11 times fighting Vanstrom. The high number of deaths was mainly due to me going in there experimenting with different fighting tactics. I then decided to burn 500 vyrewatch corpses to increase my hits on vyrewatches/lords/vanstrom. This proved to be a very good decision because I made 1.2m off of their drops =P Best Fighting Tactic: Ranging is BY FAR the best tactic to use, especially if you are a lower level. I defeated him with only 78 range and that is by no means a high range lvl. Just pray mage the whole time and you will b fine. It seems as tho Vanstrom is week to range attacks because I constantly hit him 150+ and rarely missed. This proved very beneficial because u throw the stakes very quickly meaning u could hit him 600hp in a matter of 10 seconds but way more often than melee. Ranging also keeps Vanstrom from using his melee attacks on u. Here is the setup I used: -Full Black D'hide set -250 Blisterwood Stakes -Archer Helm -Dragon Boots -Zamorak Prayer Book -Agility Skill Cape -Glory Ammy I recommend following this setup and maybe using better gear if u have it or want to spend the money. The following was the inventory I used: -Ranging potion (4) -Prayer potion (4) -Vertida's Holy Water -Drakan's Medallion -Teletab (in case of emergency!) -23 Rocktails -War Tortoise: filled with monkfish (i chose monkfish so i wouldn't lose as much money if i died and familiar dropped everything) Once again I would recommend following this inventory as it proved successful. Not so Good Fighting Tactic: Melee. I would not recommend using melee as Vanstrom can hit u with his melee attacks, which can hit in the 300s sometimes. I died 5 times using melee and only 1 time did I get close to killing him. I DO NOT recommend trying melee as ranging is by far the easiest and most efficient method. The setup for melee can b what u would like it to be. Whether u choose melee armour or mage protection armor (d'hide worked pretty well for me when i used it) just use the blisterwood polearm and u should b good. I have watched videos of people meleeing Vanstrom and they could hit in the 700s sometimes, but of course they were in the 130s with 99 str and att. -Feel free to post any comments and your experiences! If you decide to try this quest and are looking for help/suggestions please feel free to ask me! -Good luck to you all. Rock on!

Congratulations Nick! Well done! I actually used melee and an uninforced blisterwood polearm. But my secret weapon (running) proved to be just the thing, once I didn't get the double vanstrom glitch. I killed him on the third attempt (and had no idea what to do when he turned into mist - no walkthroughs at the time it was the first day). I think I used black dhide for the fight but with boots of lightness. All I did was basically run around and with every change of attack style, run up and hit him 2-3 times. With the healers, kill the healers and hit him 3 - 4 times. I got him on the third attempt, but I had little to no lag. That is kind of important too.... Of course... herblore was my 2nd 99 so I had the entire range of extremes and ovls at my disposal.... |
