Kingdom Hearts

The Pros
+ The story was a good start
+ Better world scenarios
+ Better dialouge
+ Gameplay?

The Cons
- TERRIBLE world designs (except Hallow Bastion)
- Camera is bad
- Easy

Kingdom Hearts II

The Pros
+ The Gameplay is actually fun
+ World designs are better
+ Flashier boss fights

The CONS
- The story...is...TERRIBLE
- Worlds are still small
- Still super easy

Kingdom Hearts - Chain of Memories

The Pros
+ The story is incredibly well-written
+ Disney World scenarios actually had something to do with the main plot, universally
+ Play from two prospectives

The Cons
- The gameplay is a bit tedious
- Super short

Uh...gonna have to go with Chain of Memories. <<

Uh...gonna have to go with Chain of Memories. <<

except for the fact that the topic is:

KH1 vs KH2

:o (pwn)

However, I kind of wish Chain of Memories was on the list. Ryusuke's list is uncanny too...

I'd really have to go with (the original!) Kingdom Hearts...

I really won me over with the surprise factor and the magic that it held. The whole aspect which made it unique (the Disney element) heavily influenced the storyline as well as the character development, where as in KH2, the Disney element was superfluous; the main characters were already developed and there was no connection to any of the cast aside from the antagonists (Organization XIII) which were under-delevoped from beginning to end.

Do I dare make this analogy...

Kingdom Hearts 2 is to Kingdom Hearts, as Zelda: Majora's Mask is to Zelda: The Ocarina of Time

*winces*

Though the Zelda compilation is superior to the KH 1-2 connection. Majora's Mask was pretty much established to be a side-story, as KH2 was a par sequel that was lacking of some vital information; many player were dumbfounded with the appearance of Roxas and Organization XIII. Without knowning about "The Enigmatic Man (KH:FM) and the Organization (KH:COM), player could have been eternally lost while playing.

Overall, Kingdom Hearts ended with a definite cliffhanger that, while it took them long enough, Square-Enix was able to deliver on. Kingdom Hearts II, tried to fill in the holes of KH while still having mortal holes of its own

*end ramble*

Hmmm, I TOO SHALL USE A BULLET POINT COMPARISION!

KH 1

(exclusive) Pros!
-It has the advantage of being the ROOT! So all that happy...first-time...ness. Yes.
-Disney was fairly well integrated with the story as well as the sparse SE cameos
-The overall level design was rather enchanting (especially HOLLOW BASTION)
-Classic Story! (hero and his foil, aka Sora and Riku- I don't care about Kairi in all honesty, lol)
-ANSEM, *COUGH* BILLY ZANE (aka the VA for KH1's Ansem)
-It was not all X BUTTON!, there were some puzzles.

(exclusive) Cons!
-ANGRY CAMERA
-NO SCENE SKIP! (pain whenever you had to attempt to kill a boss again!)
-There were some (annoying) puzzles.....Hollow Bastion Lifts anyone?
-Gummi ship routes were a bloody waste of time!

KH:CoM

(exclusive) Pros!
-Intriguing story and was well-written
-had an intersting plot twist (lol, I had actually thought that Sora really had neglected remembering Namine....LOL)
-Organization Interaction (Dude in KH2, there was ZILTCH, that is why it is an 'exclusive' pro in this one)
-It was on a handheld
-Dual story!

(exclusive) Cons!
-It was a CARD GAME (I WTF'd)
-Riku's side was REALLY too damn easy
-It was a handheld (no voices and mainly sprites!)

KH2

(exclusive) Pros!
-They had some interesting story points...(ok so...one...whatever)
-Gummi Routes were actually "fun" (and by fun I mean I could actually be somewhat entertained by the seizure of polygons)
-Skippable cutscenes
-Reaction Commands
-Drive Forms (and when I say this, I mean AntiForm looked COOL)
-Organization XIII (Ok so sue me that I thought that they were an interesting group of villians)
-More med-quality cutscenes (aka lipsync and stuff)

(exclusive) Cons!
-Dialogue was....at times very tedious
-Too many USELESS MINIGAMES!
-Story and world integration was given a backseat
-World Design was heavily neglected
-MORE TALKING and "DEAD END" Cutscens ("OMG THERE ARE TOO MANY" even though you can easily X BUTTON THEM TO DEATH)
-No focus on the interesting parts! (Ansem the Wise, Organization XIII, Nobodies and the Darkness was like...not even touched with a 10 foot pole)
-REACTION COMMANDS (made the battles TOO EASY!)

OVERALL PROS!
-Graphics
-Unique blend of SE and Disney
-Made a giant key qualify as a weapon
-helping the US be a but more open about games from Japan and vice-versa

OVERALL CONS!
-They seem to be doing the "dumb down the quality per game" pattern....(Maybe it'll pull a DMC on us eh?)
-Final Bosses are not difficult just LONG ('Ansem', Marluxia and Xemnas)
-'Dead' cutscenes (OMG WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING, WE ARE OUTNUMBARRED! -even though you can techincally just X Bash to Victory....*cough1000Hearlesscough*)
-Rating/Censoring Limit....GODDAMN NOMURA YOU HAVE YOUR CONCEPTS SWAPPED!
-Nomura/SE REFUSES to give the US any of the FM's or Re's of the KH games (WTF)
-Villians also do not act very...motivated. lol

I like them all actually, in their own little ways. But.....I dunno, I wish their was some way to combine all of the good aspects into one package or whatever.

Both are good.

I agree to most of the comments said. Though I think KH1 has a good difficulty, and is hard on Expert Mode. But KH2 was too easy.

Also about the censor thing, Disney wanted it to be E10, Normura wouldn't of minded if it was Teen.

Though KH2 was an improvement of KH1, it also lost things as well, which brings it down (terrible story pacing, difficulty, lack of platforming, all extras were boring and just simple add ons, alot of filler worlds)

I personally think Kingdom Hearts II was a disaster.

I was never really a fan of video games until Kingdom Hearts. The only three games I'd beaten before I played Kingdom Hearts 1 were the three Spyro games for the Playstation. My uncle got me into Final Fantasy around age 7ish but I'd never actually beaten one despite playing them all. When Kingdom Hearts came out, I destroyed it because I loved Final Fantasy and thought it was destroying the Final Fantasy name.

About two years after it came out, I rented it at a friend's house because I didn't have a Playstation 2 and played it. All night. It was the first all-nighter I'd ever pulled. Because of that game, I am pretty much the way I am today, simply because I never would have joined KH-Vids and never would have really started playing more video games. So I have so much to thank that game for.

I was really excited for Kingdom Hearts 2 and when it came out I loved it, of course. But I slowly began to realize how terrible it was - the storyline is absolutely awful, and organized into a mess. None of the worlds actually have anythign to do with Org. XIII, other than the rare occurrence that one will pop up on screen. The game was all filler and just awful. Sora is an absolute idiot who has less personality than a brick. Seriously, all he ever does is whine or shout at a random Org. member.

Roxas, on the other hand, actually had a personality, due to the fact that we saw him doing normal things with his friends for at least 3 hours. He was the only person I ever cared about while playing the game and I was really pissed when I had to be Sora because his lack of anything remarkably similar to a real person just makes me angry. He's a failure as a character, as is everyone else except for Roxas, Hayner, Pence, and Olette.

Those are my opinions on the whole crappy sequel. I'm super excited for the Roxas DS game because I hope it adds more depth to his already decent character, whereas the one about the three knights set in the past is probably going to be more Disney crap. I really hope I'm wrong, though.

Very srong opinions, but you voiced them well, so no complaints about your argument.

I do agree with you that KH2 feels like nothing but filler. Seriously, the only parts that aren't filler are the beginning and ends of the game, when the main characters are actually given personality. I truly hope they rectify this in the third game, because I don't want to lost this game as a good series.

I think that they just took a bare bones Sora and injected him into a more fun combat system. It felt like all the focused on was gameplay, which was fun, but repeatedly mashing the X button can only sustain for so long. The only way KH3 will be able to save KH as a series is if they remember to focus more on the story, and understand that just because Sora isn't 18, doesn't mean he isn't aloud to have a love interest >>

So yeah, in truth, KH1 was a better game overall then KH2, and I hope they can bring back the magic of KH1 for KH3

xDDD

I was just thinking about this today as my roomies were playing KH2(had no idea there was a thread about it).

I think I enjoyed KH1 more. Frankly, it never occured to me that there was going to be a series of KH games(even though everyone ended up separated at the end). I'm all about story(backstory, character development, etc.) when it comes to games and KH2 just didn't live up to it. I even hated the triangle reaction command before I even got the game, but it grew on me quickly.

The only way KH2 could've topped KH1 for me would be if there was even more Riku in it. xD

I'd say KH1 was the absolute best. Not just because it was the original, but it had spark. It drew in two crowds of people -- SE fans and Disney fans. The story was absolutely amazing. You truly never knew what was going to happen next as you got deeper into the game. Yeah, the level design left something to be desired, but I really enjoyed the fighting system. The magic wasn't absolutely impossible to use as it is in KH2 as well.

KH2 was a bit of a disaster. It was more of 'I'm playing this because I loved the game before it' then 'I'm playing this for fun'. Most minigames were thrown in for filler, and did anyone else find nearly every character to be complete and utter wusses? For example, Riku, who was my absolute favorite character because he wasn't a Code Hero, turned out into some pathetic sap at the end after he and Sora defeated Xemnas. There were about six plots going on at once and they didn't finish half of them. Reaction commands were fun, as were drives, but they just made the battle much too easy. In all honesty, there were about 3 boss battles that I had trouble with -- Demyx, Xaldin and Xigbar. The battles with the least reaction commands. [well, Xaldin had a lot, but it took a while to learn to use them correctly]

I do atone some of my dislike of KH2 to my buildup of it,

CoM's battle system was extremely annoying, but despite that, I really enjoyed this game. Riku's story was wonderful because they never really dived too deeply [no pun intended] into what he really went through.

I'm sticking with KH1 as my favorite.
