Yes I'm starting a series on this. I decided to try a randomly unique social experiment at work just to see how far I can push the bar. It was partially for self-validation to see if I'm truly as limitless as I say I am, and that I possess as much confidence as I claim to. So far so good. I walk up to the three guys in grocery receiving after we finished unloading the dairy truck. Me: So guys. Awkward question 45. And it's not sexual this time. Guy #1: What? Me: If you think I'm a decent guy, smile at me. If you wanna kill me, give me blank stares. Guy #2 was silent and promptly turned to Guy #1 and started talking about work. So I'm taking that as a pronounced negative from that guy. Cool. Guy #1: Is there a middle option? Because sometimes I feel like I wanna kill EVERYBODY. Me: So kinda neutral? Guy #1: Yeah. Guy #3 is too weird to plainly figure out, tbqh so idk what he thinks. Unfortunately we were short 3 other associates; a full house would've made this all the more worth it. Anyway, by far the highlight of this whole thing for me was the reaction from Guy #1. As we were walking out to the floor, this occurs: Guy #1: Kori. *slow pause* Why would you ask something like that? Me: Just to show I can. That there are people like me that go against the status quo. And I warned you guys before I asked it that it was going to be awkward, so you can't say anything there. So yeah. It was a combination of self-validation (which yielded productive results, by the way) and just trolling. I had fun though god dammit, and that's all that matters. The only good thing aside from the lulz is that I actually LIKE Guy #1, so his neutrality is most welcome. |

Somehow I'm thinking it's not entirely coincidental that the only one other than me that didn't find the whole deal awkward was Guy #1, since even I can tell he's socially awkward. Like two peas in a pod, guys. This is how you do it. |
