It says my subscription expired and I'm not protected... but it also says all my shields are on and can do scans and stuff. It won't let me reactivate a subscription, just wants money. Anyone know what's up? |

I use AVG and don't have any sort of annoying issues. So you could just switch, unless you have some connection to Avast. |

Which free antivirus programs are generally considered good? This computer's new, and I'm afraid it'll catch something. After all, antivirus programs are often suspicious downloads themselves. |

Avast was great until it... decided to be dumb. I'm seriously not sure if I've got protection or not :o |

AVG has a free version, with an optional paid premium version with more features. For standard malware protection the free version does everything you need. I can't recommend it over other malware defense programs though; it's basically the only one I've been using for years, I don't have anything to compare it to. |

I thought I remembered something about avg didn't have free anymore. I used to have it on an old desktop that I didn't even have admin rights to. Maybe if I can't figure this out I'll look into it. |

I use to use Avast and it worked pretty well until the same thing happened to me. It expired and I wasn't sure if it was still working or not. I just ended up getting McAfee almost free with rebate at Fry's. When anti-virus programs expire, don't they still work? I was under the impression that it just doesn't update anymore and you're susceptible to anything new. |
