Not sick and frail, but remembered as he was. Happy and healthy. http://i.imgur.com/uFe2AAa.jpg I'll miss your little headbutts and fist bumps. I'll miss you curled up behind my knees and night and under my covers in the morning. http://i.imgur.com/D4yoff6.jpg I'll miss you walking your pet string and talking to it when nobody is around. http://i.imgur.com/vuSoEWo.jpg I'll miss you coming to me whenever I call your name. I'll miss you always stealing my seat when I get up. http://i.imgur.com/eDjAGKJ.jpg I'll miss you playing with newspapers. http://i.imgur.com/gPvYM0y.jpg I'll miss you acting funny whenever I do Vader breathing. I'll even miss you scratching at my bedroom door in the middle of the night wanting in or out. http://i.imgur.com/c9D9sLe.jpg I'll miss the way you think you're hiding when only your head is covered up. http://i.imgur.com/dNuP9WD.jpg I'm going to miss coming home every day to you sitting on my bed waiting for me. http://i.imgur.com/YkGyBtu.jpg I'll miss the way you would contemplate a jump for the longest time before doing it. I'll miss your deep purrs. http://i.imgur.com/qbCUiyC.jpg I'll miss you. I'm proud of the fight you put up, but in the end you went far enough. You were a tough little guy and you deserve the rest and peace that you have now. I hope I'll get to have you content on my lap again someday. http://i.imgur.com/9mW3aV8.jpg |

Yeah, it was cancer. He was doing well and recovering nicely, but over the last couple of weeks he just nosedived for some reason. And I've been a wreck for most of that time, making my insomnia worse and being a zombie at work. I keep looking in my room or in the dog's bed expecting to see him. I've cared for all of my pets and mourned them when they passed, but this one has been especially hard for me. He's the one that picked me and that's where the bond grew. And befitting his personality, as sick as he was, he was purring until the very end. http://i.imgur.com/sin1Y1A.jpg Edited by Glenear, Sep 23 2015, 11:38 PM.

If you don't mind me asking, did he pass from the cancer itself or was he euthanized? |

Euthanized. It was my plan to have it done last week, but decided on a last ditch effort suggested by the vet to double his medication. I could see that wasn't working, so for the last couple of days I didn't give him any because he hated it so much and I wanted to make his remaining days as miserable as possible. Monday I was going to call, but lost my nerve. Tuesday was booked, so I got to have one last day with him before taking him in before work today. And I'm pretty sure he would have starved to death before the cancer got him because he stopped eating again. Back in June I was tube feeding him to build up his strength. He started eating on his own again and being a little bit more like his old self, then all just went to hell. There is relief from this, though. One of three major stress factors for me these same two weeks is eliminated. Once my dental issues are fixed and we're not understaffed at work anymore I'll start feeling like "normal" again. EDIT: And thanks for the condolences, everyone. I just wanted a spot to share my memories where I wouldn't be turning into a blubbering idiot in front of somebody. Anyone who would ever insinuate that you're an idiot for publicly mourning the loss of your pet is a fucking dumbass in no uncertain terms. |
