Battle 3: Buster Sword vs. Scarborough Fair (First Round)

Contestant Data:

Buster Sword
Origin: Final Fantasy VII

Posted Image

Description: It serves as Cloud Strife's main weapon, and was wielded before him by Zack Fair and Angeal Hewley. The Buster Sword is classified as an enormous broadsword (though it has more in common with a backsword). Despite its size, Cloud claims it's not that heavy. From tip to handle, it is approximately five to six feet long, with a single-edged, enormous blade approximately one foot wide. Its original finish sports a bolted, steel base and blade, and there are two holes on the blade near the hilt.

Pros:
- Incredible power.
- Single-edged blade able to cut through nearly anything.

Cons:
- Extremely heavy and large

---------

Scarborough Fair
Origins: Bayonetta

Posted Image

Description: A set of four, count 'em, four guns used by the Umbran witch Bayonetta herself. Each have a name; 'Parsley (ever joyous), Sage (ever strong), Rosemary (ever reminiscent), and Thyme (ever courageous).' They style a stunning burgundy-red color with gold and silver chains at the end, golden trim, leather on the handle for comfort, and a nice design topped with a jewel on each gun.

The name of the set is in reference of an old English song by the same name.

Pros:
- Extremely high rate of fire
- Bullets inflict magical damage
- Having a gun on each limb is pretty useful; it'd be kind of hard to miss.
- Can be used with punches and kicks

Cons:
- If you're not a powerful witch, the Scarborough Fair may be a bit difficult to use.
- Would be difficult to shoot something heavily armored.
- Can be difficult to use four guns in such a way. Beware of tripping.

Very interesting match up, I'd kill to see a battle with Cloud and Bayonetta. :sweatdrop:

The Scarborough Fair can rain down bullets from almost every direction. Even close range the guns can be used in conjunction with devastating physical attacks. The Buster Sword on the other hand, has extreme defense and incredible power, along with some nice long range attacks as well.

If it can down to it, the Scarborough Fair's time effects could slow down the attacks of the Buster Sword enough to dodge them. This would work with any projectiles the Buster Sword launched as well. Over time the endlessly eternal barrage of bullets would overwhelm the Buster Sword bearer until he was defeated, or at least give the assailant enough time to get in close and finish the battle with physical attacks.

I'm going to have to give it to The Scarborough Fair.

I agree here. I don't have much to input, you pretty much said everything that can be said as far as I can tell.

This is a toughie. The Buster Sword has Materia slots, which means you could put *any* Materia on it and use it against the Scarborough. Something like Thunder you wouldn't be able to dodge unless the time was slowed down at the exact moment it was used (I don't know exactly how the guns work since I've never played Bayonetta). I think the Buster Sword has more going for it, so it gets my vote.

The time effects could easily stop thunder spells. The only thing that would not be effected by the time effects of the Scarborough Fair is time magic itself. If the Buster Sword wielder cast Haste and Slow/Stop on the Scarborough Fair wielder than he would have a better chance of hitting her.

The time effects are on a godly level, and it would take a lot to get past it. You also have to consider that an enormous amount of bullets would be flying at the Buster Sword wielder at all times. He can only take so much of that.

Isn't the Time Dilation stuff have to do with the fact that Bayonetta is a Witch, and not the guns themselves?

This being so, if the wielders were not their typical users (Since one is a set of guns and the other is a sword, other people could potentially use them), one could say that the Time Dilation stuff is based on the user, and not on the weapon, so therefore I would say it may not count in the terms of the contest.

Sure, Bayonetta is the best with them, but as they are handguns, anyone could potentially use them.

Hi, I'm: An Innocent Bystander
"Summon small meteors from the sky and cast them down
Channel blue energy into blade to made the impact even greater
Channel blue energy into blade to fire it out like a beam
Extreme cutting speed that can be performed in rapid succession"

Aren't they all to do with Cloud (i.e. being his Limit Breaks, which he can do with any sword in FF7), and not the Buster Sword itself? The Buster Sword is just a really big, sharp sword.

My vote is for the guns. I'm not sure exactly how they affect time, but I'm sure its significant.

I know very little about FFVII, but I agree that its special powers are Cloud specific, and I believe Materia would count as another weapon...so we just have a generic big-ass sword.

In the rules it states that the wielder by default is the original person who used that weapon in the game that it came from. So instead, we are going to do just random average joe using these weapons against each other?
