Battle 8: Psycho Wand vs. Sword of Seals (First Round) Contestant Data: Psycho Wand Origin: Phantasy Star Online (first version, for the Dreamcast) ![]() Used by: Any Force character with the required MST (mental strength -- think of it like magic power, basically) Pros: - Casts Barta, Foie, and Zonde (basic ice, fire, and lightning elemental spells) randomly but at no cost - Reduces magic casting cost - Raises defense - Good for trading Cons: - Using this weapon to cast spells will reduce your health depending on the spell cast - Extremely weak physical attack power. ------ Sword of Seals Origin: Fire Emblem: The Sword of Seals (Fūin no Tsurugi) ![]() Description: Sword of Seals is the sword wielded by the hero Hartmut alongside the Eckesachs during the Scouring. The blade is said to be stronger than the Divine Weapons. After defeating Idenn, Hartmut decided to have pity on her and used both the sword and the Fire Emblem to seal her in the Dragon Temple. After the war ended the sword was placed in the Shrine of Seals alongside Bramimond and his spell Apocalypse. Later, the sword would be unsealed by Roy and used to defeat Zephiel and a revived Idenn. Pros: - Can produce extremely scorching flames from it’s edge - Can emit large fireballs as a projectile - It holds incredible physical power, imbued with magic - Can slay dragons with ease - Has a high critical rate - Has a high advantage over axes and cleaver type weapons Cons: -Can be destroyed with use (it's like a double edged sword; it's the most powerful weapon in the game but has a limited number of uses before it's destroyed or repaired with magic) -Has a natural weakness to lances/spears BATTLE 8 BEGIN! In this battle, the Psycho Wands best means of attacking would be to rapidly cast Barta and Zonde at the Sword of Seals user. These spells may be weak but in rapid sucession it could be quite overwhelming. However, the Sword of Seals has the ability to seal magic, so it could silence the wand if it got close enough. The Sword of Seals can also launch large fireballs that could tear through some of the spells that were cast. Once the sword user got close enough, I believe it would spell the end for the Psycho Wand. |

Zonde can prevent the enemy from attacking at a chance (Something like 25% on hit or so, I don't know the exact number). If the Zonde barrage were to give this effect, the Sword of Seals user would be screwed, being unable to attack. |

I wish that was mentioned about the spells before hand, I thought the three spells was just basic elemental magic. Would a searing hot blast of fire negate the spell if it was cast? |

I've done some research for the Psycho Wand and the three spells that it can cast. Some sources has said that it casts the three spells randomly, but that may be just an additional special ability of the weapon, meaning it cast them randomly while you are using it the way you want to. Can anyone confirm this? Also Polan, I checked 3 or 4 FAQs about the Zonde spell effect of sealing the users attack and I have not found anything about it. The three spells seem to be just basic elemental spells with no additional effects. Could you be thinking about a different Phantasy Star game? Because this one is from the first version of Phantasy Star Online for Dreamcast. Edited by andaryu, Oct 18 2010, 05:25 PM.

The Psycho Wand casts one of the three spells (Foie, Barta, Zonde) at random, but only those three. Zonde doesn't really prevent the enemy from attacking; it just makes the foe stall for a second, like literally every other attack in the game. That being said, I think the Sword of Seals would win since it can seal magic and shoot fireballs. |

Thanks for clearing that up Slash, I edited the Psycho Wand contestant data accordingly. The Sword of Seals should have no problem defeating the Psycho Wand wielder, especially if the swordsman got in close due to the magic sealing abilities. Even from afar I think the Sword of Seals would still have the advantage. Edited by andaryu, Oct 18 2010, 06:32 PM.

Sorry, I'm thinking of the Psycho Wand in the games after PSO. In the PSU Universe Zonde spells can and will do that, Barta will freeze, and Foie will cause burn. |
