I'm curious since I myself was on the verge of it back in September. Like, I damn near killed myself. Slash ignited the start of the reversal process within me, and I completed it. Best thing that's ever happened to me, really. Anyway, what do you think of those who commit suicide? Do you look down upon them for it, or what? I used to think that it was inherently selfish -- and maybe it is. However, often times I think the reasons for suicide run quite deep, and it would be wise not to look at it superficially or in a biased, one-sided manner. People are afraid to get help for many reasons. I know I was. My experience has really revolutionized my perspective on the issue. Thoughts? |

I don't hold anything against the suicidal since I don't understand their situation, and I know they have reasons for it, but I don't think it should ever be done under pretty much any circumstance. |

...what do you think of those who commit suicide? I think they're dead. Seriously, though - being alive and bloody miserable has to be marginally better than being dead. Edited by Synesthesia, Dec 17 2010, 05:46 AM.

That's the crux of the issue. Suicide victims feel they would be better off if they were dead. Of course, there are ostensible problems with this line of thought. There is the issue of leaving behind grieving family members, and not living life to the fullest. But as I said before, suicide victims feel that their life is meaningless -- and, more importantly, hopeless. Obviously, this is almost always not the case, but tell that to the victim. |

I've never known anyone personally who died from suicide, but I have an online friend who attempted it once. I can understand being afraid to get help, since I'm not one very able to talk to people usually. I've briefly considered it myself, but thankfully I was always rational enough to know that I was just overreacting and rushing my emotions, so I never even went further than that. I honestly feel really sorry for people who commit suicide, because not only are their friends and family grieving, but they're probably regretting it in the afterlife

I don't think they should be looked down upon. They're obviously people with deep problems and need serious help. You can't always call it selfish, because they often legitimately believe their family would be better off them. I know I did, and sometimes I still do. |

Some of them have damn good reasons. Others are pussies. It depends on the person. |

What do you guys think of the people who go on mass shootings and kill themselves afterwards because they were bullied or something? Do you have any sympathy for them, regardless of what they did? |

It sure sucks they got bullied, but there is clearly something wrong with them if they immediately jumped into a mass shooting. If they're entirely sane they should have thought to ask someone for help, or else they just loop back to selfish/weak minded and insane. |

It's not easy to solve bullying, though. There's only so much you can do. The school administrators can suspend them or whatever, but nothing is stopping them from retaliating on you after their suspension is over or away from school. And don't even try to tell me to stand up for myself in front of 3-5 bigger, stronger kids. You see all it the time in movies and on TV, but it's just not realistic. I went through this myself. I ended up changing schools because I was like the only white person in the entire school anyway. lol |
