Yeah, my sister went through bullying and comtemplated suicide for a while. The school refused to do anything about it, and it got to the point where my sister refused to go into school regularly, and my mother, wanting to keep her from harm, obliged. My mother eventually got taken to court and fined because of it, but that was a good 6 years ago now. Anyway, it depends on the reason. Some are good, some are downright pathetic. Like, one friend of mine fell in love with a girl, and she fell in love with him. The problem is, she was in a relationship at the time, and obviously wanted out (I don't know the specifics of this.). And so her now-Ex threatened to kill himself if she didn't stay with him... I don't know if he was entirely serious about it, but it's still a terrible thing to threaten with. |

Technically, I think the school is legally obligated to deal with situations of that sort. The school should've paid some sort of fine, if anything. |

This is admittedly a harder question to answer than the one I posited in the OP. In general though, I think my answer would be the same. While I've obviously never been bullied, having been homeschooled, I am quite certain that bullying causes some sort of long-term, lasting harm -- be that psychological, mental, or emotional. I would imagine carrying that sort of burden throughout a good portion of one's life would be rather wearisome. I should also add that, as you said, it's probably not all that easy to get someone to stop bullying you anyhow -- especially if the school fails to do anything about it. I was literally hated by my entire school in 5th and 6th grade, by all except 2 people. I remember when I got my braces, and when I walked in late after getting them everyone was mumbling stuff like "aw, man, she came back". And of course my mouth was in so much pain already I couldn't even say anything... |

I don't have any sympathy for anyone that kills themselves unless they were going to die anyways. Those that take the chicken shit way out and hurt those around them by doing so are selfish IMO. They're only hurting those that care about them. |

I've never been suicidal, but you shouldn't say something like that when you haven't been in their position. It's always caused by depression from what I gather, which is an actual mental illness, so it's not really their fault they feel that way. It's kind of like having the flu, you can't control it. |

I know someone that did that and all they did was hurt the people around them. IMO they're chicken shits. Life's a bitch sometimes, I've been depressed before but never wanted to take my life over it. |
