![]() Due to the failure of the previous contest, I've been thinking of a simple yet fun contest we could do where everyone on the site could participate. After reading January's Nintendo Power, I got the perfect idea. Let's hold the first NA Awards 2011 contest. The rules will be simple and once we get things underway you may actually learn a thing or two about another member's personal favorite game. This is also a great chance to discuss that game amongst everyone, and there's no time limit so members can get to the topics when they have the chance. Rules: -Try to nominate new games only from this generation (PC, 360, Wii, PS3, DS, PSP) -Can Nominate as many games as you want. -Can Nominate the same game as much as you want. Prizes: -Best Game will be featured in it’s own banner/theme for the site. If anyone has any better Rules/Prizes idea please share! Anything to make it more enjoyable. Here are the categories. Categories___________________________________________________ Best Game (Game of the Generation) Best Downloadable Game Best Graphics Best Music (Best Original Score) Best Adventure Game Best Voice Acting / Sound Effects Best Shooter Best Music / Rhythm Game Best RPG Best Strategy Game Best Sports Game Best Action Game Best Platformer Best Puzzle Game Best Multiplayer Game Best New Character Best Story Best New Idea Best Retro Revival Best Indie Game Nominations__________________________________________________ Last Updated: 3/31/11 Best Game (Game of the Generation) - Fallout: New Vegas - Final Fantasy XIII - Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep - Final Fantasy Dissidia - The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks - StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty - Starcraft: Brood War - Team Fortress 2 Best Downloadable Game ☆WINNER☆ - Mega Man 9 & 10 - - - - - - - Best Graphics ☆WINNER☆ - Crysis - - - - Best Music (Best Original Score) ☆WINNER☆ - Super Mario Galaxy 2 - - - - - - Best Adventure Game ☆WINNER☆ - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - - - - Best Voice Acting / Sound Effects ☆WINNER☆ - Final Fantasy Dissidia - - - - - Best Shooter ☆WINNER☆ - Counter-Strike: Source - - - - - - Best Music / Rhythm Game - Chime - AudioSurf - Guitar Hero Best RPG Game ☆WINNER☆ - Final Fantasy XIII - - - - - - - - Best Strategy Game ☆WINNER☆ - StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty - - - Best Sports Game - Gran Turismo 5 - Mario Kart Wii - Mario Sports Mix Best Action Game - Monster Hunter Portable 3rd - Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep - Mass Effect 2 - Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Best Platformer ☆WINNER☆ - Super Mario Galaxy 2 - - - - - Best Puzzle Game - Braid - 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors - Puzzle Quest Best Multiplayer Game - Monster Hunter Portable 3rd - Starcraft II - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep - Final Fantasy Dissidia - Super Smash Brothers Brawl - Mario Kart Wii - Spiral Knights - Team Fortress 2 Best New Character - Dr. Fetus (Super Meat Boy) - Benny (Fallout: New Vegas) - Aqua (Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep) - Ventus (Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep) - Cosmos (Final Fantasy Dissidia) - Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII) - Jiro (Blue Dragon) Best Story - Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey - Amnesia: The Dark Descent - Fallout: New Vegas - Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep - Kingdom Hearts Re: coded - Blue Dragon - Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride Best New Idea - Amnesia: The Dark Descent - 3D Dot Game Heroes - Scribblenauts - Demon's Souls Best Retro Revival - Final Fantasy The Four Heroes of Light - Mega Man 9 - Mega Man 10 - New Super Mario Brothers Wii - Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride - Donkey Kong Country Returns Any additional categories would be great, but let's not go overboard. If you want an invite I can send you one Andaryu. It's basically what Slash said, it's pretty fun. It's a newer game that's still in essentially an Alpha/Beta phase, so it's not too popular yet, but when you can get a group together it's loads of fun. As for Trine, I got it during that Steam Summer sale. I would say that the PC version is the best one to get simply because the Wizard has to draw shapes to create objects for you to use, and it's much easier and faster with a Mouse, but that's just my opinion. I'm sure it would work equally well on the PS3, but I never tried it on the PS3 so I can't say for certain. It's basically a Platformer/Puzzle/RPG combo. You explore caverns and what not in a (from what I've played) linear path. There's hidden secrets all over the place, but the actual direction you go in game seems to be one way. At any point you can switch between three different characters; The Warrior, Rouge, and Wizard. The Warrior is basically your combat character. He has a sword and shield, and all he's there for is combat. He can block objects with his shield (You direct where he shields so you can block falling rocks and what not too). The Rogue has a grappling hook you can use to swing around the areas, and her weapon is a Bow. The Wizard is basically only puzzle solving. He creates objects to help you solve puzzles throughout areas. You CAN use his objects to crush enemies but it's often too slow to be effective. Overall, I really like the game, just got too lazy to really finish it. I should sometime. It's a nice mix of all 3 elements and makes a superb game, in my opinion. The Puzzles are built so that if you're REALLY creative, you can create some weird ass crap to get past them, it's not one of those "only one solution" deals. Anything is fair game, which adds some fun to the whole idea. The combat is mostly a click mash, but sometimes the enemies have shields or are on high platforms so you have to think out your strategy instead of mashing buttons, and there are bosses that take more than just mashing your button. Wow Trine looks amazing! I just watched a bunch of videos are reading your intriguing post, Polan. It's looks like it plays similar to Castlevania even... I want to get this on the PSN but before I drop the money for it let me ask you a few questions. 1: Is it multiplayer? I know you have the PC version but it totally looks the type of game you can play with other people online. If not, can you switch between the characters easily? 2: Is there a lot of emphasis on the combat? I like a mixture of combat and puzzle solving. From the videos, it looked like there is more puzzle solving. Not a bad thing, but I'd like to know just how far the combat goes before I get it. Edited by andaryu, Feb 7 2011, 11:39 AM.

1) I believe it has Local Multiplayer, but I don't remember off hand. I can check up later. 2) It's kinda a mix of both. Some puzzles have enemies in them, other parts are just traveling around with some enemies to kill, no real puzzles. It's really a decent mix of both. |

Sounds great! I'm totally gonna check it out soon, thanks for info about it Polan. This contest is sure to bring up even more great games that people could have missed. I'll look into Spiral Knights some more too. Edited by andaryu, Feb 7 2011, 10:17 PM.

We already have a lot of nominations, should we get the voting underway? We have at least 3 nominations for each category (except Music and Sports) and most of the active members have already posted so I think it's time. If anyone else has any more nominations (*cough* STORM! *cough*) please do so today and we can get started on this tomorrow! I'll go ahead and nominate Mario Sports Mix for Best Sports category. I just got it yesterday but I've been playing it nonstop and it's a great Sports game with tons of awesome crossovers with Nintendo and Square Enix. |

Add AudioSurf for the Music area, and probably just Guitar Hero if you want it to have 3.

I added those nominations Polan. Is everybody ready to begin the voting? Slash: Could you unpin the two topics in this category and pin this one instead? Edited by andaryu, Feb 10 2011, 04:02 PM.
