On an entirely general level, obviously. My friend and I were talking about this earlier and it really got me thinking. For example, we see rampant nationalism here in the United States, yet all too often it seems to be rooted in ignorance. Keep in mind I'm only using nationalism as an example, and this topic is not solely about that. Any thoughts? |

Regular pride - not necessarily. Hyperbolic pride - probably. |

When it's a huge scale that you cannot possibly know, usually it is. Using your example, the people who say the US is the best country ever...how do you know? Have you been to other countries and lived there for a month at least? Don't think so. They just take our Military record and make that into an assumption that's just wrong. Other countries are different, but these people alone makes the US NOT the best country. How can we be the best when we are the most self absorbed culture in the history of mankind? The dumbest thing is that our military record is only so good because we've only been around for 300 years, whereas many countries on the other side of the globe have been around for at least twice that. |
