And for what? I understand that neither he nor his followers meant any actual evil/malevolence, but there are some serious corollaries I foresee stemming from this. One, many people will become disillusioned with Christianity; worst case scenario, some apostatize. Not to turn this into an atheist circlejerk or some sort of clever rally for sympathy garnering, but it's rather apparent that apostasy carries some pretty negative repercussions in America. Secondly, and arguably more important, I'm sure a lot of his followers have long since sold all of their possessions, canceled summer plans, maxed out their credit cards, etc. In fact, yesterday I read a story about how one particular family had ceased saving up for their children's college education as early as two years ago, due to this ridiculous prophecy. So yeah, just saying. You can all carry on with your lives now. |

Hi, I'm: An Innocent Bystander
|
A stupid man convinced stupid people to do stupid things. What was this, his fourth prediction for the end of days? If anyone was stupid enough to believe him after the first three no-hitters, well, that says a lot. The next time he opens his mouth and declares the world is ending, there'll be just as many people -- probably a lot of the same ones -- believing him. *carries on with my life as per request* Edited by Synesthesia, May 22 2011, 04:07 AM.

If he was smart, he'd totally vanish, almost as if he'd been raptured or something... Maybe we'll get a few more atheists, but this definitely wont knock down an entire religion. |

Harold camping is a fuckhead, and anyone who was damaged because they legitimately believed him is also a fuckhead, and deserves what he or she got. This dumb shit "miscalculated" the end of the world once already. If you believed him a second time, then do us all a favor and stop draining the planet of perfectly good oxygen, you pathetic wastes of life. There is literally no evidence whatsoever that the world looked like it was even in slight danger. Even if you're one of those idiots that buys into numerology, did you see any evidence that led to earthquakes happening everywhere at once? What's that? Geologists call that stupid? Well, you're stupid too. My only regret is that you didn't bequeath to me everything you own, because even though you're not dead, you're still too fucking retarded to own property. |

This won't knock down an entire anything. It'd be like Fred Phelps and his crew saying "Whoops, we were wrong." That would convince, what, a few hundred people that they were wrong? |
