Well, don't feel bad Slash, I just made a dumb mistake myself. Technically there was nothing I could do to really realize this was going to happen but: A few hours ago I decided to finally deal with my extra harddrive. Back in Christmas, I got a TB HDD, and installed it. At the time I didn't have an extra SATA wire, as such I put my old Harddrive aside. Well, when I built my current PC, I had an extra SATA wire, so I re-added my old HDD. I never really touched it, wiped it, or really did anything with it until today. Turns out, somehow, my Boot Sector was wiped on my TB Drive, and was being read from the old one. I went to wipe it, and ended up locking myself out of my PC for a few hours as I struggled to figure out why that suddenly happened, not knowing the Boot Sector was being read from the old drive >_>. Silly mistakes cause big problems in PCs. Edited by Polantaris, Jun 28 2011, 06:41 AM.

I just used a Windows Repair CD, but it was really confusing because it would only detect the harddrive that was set as the Primary, so for a while it thought I had no Windows at all. |

That also happened to me, kind of. At one point, I couldn't even boot up a Windows XP CD; pressing a key did nothing. When I took the disc out, it just stayed on the black screen that appears when you turn it on. Luckily I had Linux, so I had to go into it and modify my primary drive so that Windows would "undo" the selection for it when I tried to reformat before that happened. Otherwise I was screwed. |

Why did you delete the partition in the first place? o.O |

Didn't know what I was doing back then, when I had to reformat for...some reason (probably a virus). |

Me or him? I did it as a quick format, I didn't feel like installing some bullshit program to do it when Windows can do it in 15 seconds. You simply delete the Partition, which makes it Unallocated Storage. When you re-partition it, you format it. Plus you can change the drive letter and a bunch of other organization things, so that's what I did. How would I (or Slash) know that the computer was for some reason reading a boot off of the old harddrive, when the new one had the OS, AND was running on it's own prior to the reinstallation of the old drive? It doesn't make sense that this would happen. Windows at it's finest. |
