Have you ever talked to a hardcore Zelda fan? You'd think every mention of OoT was the second coming of Jesus. |

There's a difference between being blown away because you're just a stupid fan boy and when you're blown away because it was actually unique and amazing. I don't think anyone is the second with Zelda anymore. Outside of the controls for SS, I don't think anyone will be that way for that game either. The controls are about the only thing that's interesting going on with SS. It might be the best Zelda they ever make, but until they so something unique and new with something other than controls (Which has basically been Nintendo's MO recently), no one is going to really be surprised by SS. The same thing goes with the rest of Nintendo's series. They're not doing anything new in the gameplay field except controls, and that worked for a while...but the Wii is old, and they need to change their catch. It won't work twice, especially since outside of the single Wii U controller we get to use, it's still the WiiMote. The WiiMote is good in it's own merits, however the buttons are limited, and the controls can piss you off (I know I was driven insane in MP3 because they just didn't cooperate when I really needed them to). They really need to innovate their games, and they're not really doing that. SMG2 was good, but was it spectacular? I don't really think so. It didn't have the same impact that SMG1 had, and while that's expected, they also didn't really go to any lengths to make the game a better game than it's predecessor. It's really just the same game with some new levels and annoying challenges. Same thing goes with NSMBW. I liked the idea of going back to the old school 2D Marios, and I liked the side-scrolling stuff, but do they really think it's going to work a second time with NSMBM? I don't think it will. Speaking of NSMBM....they're keeping Miis? The single worst idea that was involved with the Wii? You're fucking kidding me right? But that's another topic. All they're doing with their series are reshuffling ideas, trying to find a way to keep alive really. When was the last time they introduced a new namestake? If they have, was it good? I doubt it, or people would know about it. The stuff that people know when you say Nintendo is associated with mostly series started with the SNES or sooner. They haven't really done anything since, and that's the problem. Now, they sandbag us by telling us the games that people actually want to see we'll probably never see. And why? No fucking idea. Instead, we get a bullshit scripted answer that if it were a conference, some goon who was trained to say it would say. It's bullshit, everyone knows it, and it's going to fuck them in the ass in the future, guaranteed. |

Be seeing you.

I thought the last good innovation Nintendo did (in gaming at least, not hardware) was Metroid Prime. That WAS an actual innovation in that franchise. Last hardware innovation was the 3DS. But I expected more from Nintendo for a successor to the Wii. The way the system is, the way it still uses motion controls, and the way the only REAL new thing about it are a singular controller and HD graphics just make it seem like the Wii's DSi...if that makes any sense. Polan, while you bring up some good points regarding Nintendo's lack of innovation and their apparent rehashing of the same old material, objectively, couldn't you say that about any current gen system? Microsoft's got CoD, and the PS3 has Metal Gear (although I could be wrong on that). |

Personally, I think Nintendo's been going downhill ever since Iwata took over... |

I misread what you said if you read my original post. I'm changing it a little. Sure, the other two series are riding on some old games, but they are also introducing new series that are helping them tremendously. Xbox: Gears of War PS3: Infamous Xbox: Halo PS3: Uncharted Wii: Uh...um....... Need I go on? Halo might be a little old but it's still pretty current. It's not from the NES, SNES, or N64 days, it's only last gen. Meanwhile Nintendo hasn't introduced anything since basically SNES, maybe a few in N64. Meanwhile, Sony and Microsoft continue to release new names frequently. Edited by Polantaris, Jul 3 2011, 01:58 AM.

^ That looks pretty great. Let's face it, the Wii's at the end of it's life here. Sure, Skyward Sword looks great but once it's out I'm sure we'll all be let down to some degree. I'm sure Nintendo's realized they need to step their game up, but it seems they've already given up on their own system.
