I'm so happy about this! Thank GOD that my local game store didn't have one! It'll drop from $250 to $170 on August 12. The only thing about this that I can possibly see as a bad things is that I'm worried for the future of the 3DS. It kind of seems like unless Nintendo does something amazing (which might just be good first party games), the 3DS will crash and burn. Especially when the Vita comes out. http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/gaming.gadgets/07/28/nintendo.price.drop.3ds.frum/ Edited by mediarulesworld, Jul 28 2011, 08:41 AM.

Also, for people who already have a 3DS before August 12, here's a quote: If you already own a 3DS, Nintendo hasn't forgotten about you. They are offering 20 free downloadable games from the Nintendo eShop -- 10 from the NES Virtual Console games and 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games -- before they are available to the general public. Current users who connect to the company's eShop before August 11 will automatically be registered in the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program, which will allow 3DS owners to get the 20 games for free. Classic games from the NES, including "Super Mario Bros." and "Donkey Kong Jr.," also are slated to become available for the 3DS later this year. Game Boy games like "Metroid Fusion" and "Mario Kart" will only be accessible to the Ambassador members; Nintendo says there are no plans to make them available to the general public. This means that not only will you get 20 free games, you'll get some GBA VC games before anyone else. So, I'll probably still buy a 3DS before then. I have enough money and stuff to trade in and I would like to get these free games. It's also pretty cool because that means Nintendo is FINALLY launching the GBA store and an NES store. So that's pretty awesome.

If you buy and register a 3DS system before August 12, you'll become part of Nintendo's "Ambassador" club, which will nab you special things. Like 10 GBA VC games that won't be released to the public (at least not yet). These games include Yoshi's Island: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. |

Yeah, it's an awesome price drop. Too bad nothing good is out for it yet. XD If anything, I probably won't get it until the next price drop, or after I nab myself a PSVita. |

As soon as I get my first paycheck, I'll be buying a 3DS. The only game I don't want out of that 20 is Super Mario Advanced 3, because that game gets insanely hard at the end. Edit: I'm only really looking forward to Cave Story 3DS, but I suppose I'll pick up Rayman 3D(to relive my childhood) and maybe OoT3D also. If only the Vita could come out on my first pay-day, I'd buy that also. Edited by Enrei, Jul 28 2011, 09:02 AM.

The catch to the ambassador program is that Nintendo says they have "no plans" to sell Game Boy Advance titles, but will reward 3DS owners who log on to the Nintendo eShop once before August 11 with twenty games. So it won't impact the system like it could have if Nintendo would just make GBA a part of the eShop. Somehow, even after this program, I still feel ripped off for getting a 3DS early and paying full price, which is why they are doing this, to make early buyers feel like they are not getting screwed over. This is such an aggressive price cut, the only reason they cut it so much is because of the Vita price. That’s a 32% price cut. That's still pretty unfair for people who got it at launch, a bunch of retro games don't really change the fact that the system is flawed and is not worth the $249.99 original price. According to Nintendo Life.

Too bad; there are some amazing GBA titles. Like fucking Mother 3, for example. Seriously, Nintendo, if you're going to make Mother 3 like half of Brawl, then at least let Americans have the damn game. |

>_> Well, naysayers or no, I'm happy with this. Those who were on the fence about getting the 3DS have either this push to get it now or a lower price tag to save them money, while we who got it early get a whole bunch of free games for it. They could easily have given us the finger and said we get nothing. I appreciate what we're getting, as it gives me a chance to play all sorts of old classics I never got a chance to play, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what the other games will be. I mean, just Super Mario Bros. and LoZ alone would've been great, and we're getting a whole bunch more in addition! |

So the 3DS will be the price of a new DSiXL... http://www.gamestop.com/ds/consoles/nintendo-dsi-xl-midnight-blue/78067 I didn't realize the 3DS was doing poorly enough for Nintendo to go to this extreme... |
