I love remakes, personally. There are a lot of old classics that are so great you can play 20 times and never get tired of. Why play it on the N64 when you can play an even better version?
Because the "better version" costs 60 dollars, and its system costs 250. And it's on a tiny screen.

lol well that's a given (game is $40 and the system is $170, btw. Handheld games never go above $40) all I'm saying is that remakes get an unfair rep. Nintendo didn't even make the game, GREZZO did. It did not take away any resources from Nintendo to make an original game. And would you really want a developer as inexperienced as GREZZO making an original game? They're better off building their skills on remakes.

In some cases, ports are actually worse than the originals, such as GBA ports of SNES games (the DKC ports come to mind). Although, I can't really say anything about the OOT remake since I've never played it, let alone seen it. I heard that was faithful to the original, at least, even going so far as keeping bugs that people seemed to like.

Even the music in OoT 3D is the same. Mostly. From what I've heard, anyway.

I think I'll hold out on buying a 3DS until a day or two before the cut, just to see if the upcoming games change a bit. I really kind of want those remakes, but I don't want a 3DS JUST for remakes.
–Bit.Trip Saga
–Cave Story 3D (both of which have added content)
–Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns (if you're into that sort of thing, because I am :3 Also original, albiet in a long running series)
–Dr. Lautrec & the Forgotten Knights ("original," I guess)
–Luigi's Mansion 2 (original, albeit sequel)
–Super Mario 3D Land (original, albeit overused corporate whore)
–Sonic Generations (although, it will be on pretty much every other system ever made as well...)
–Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D (remake, but I've never played the game before)
–Kid Icarus: Uprising (completely original)
–Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (original, albeit sequel)

Etcetera etcetera.

Don't forget Paper Mario and Mario Kart, which are also original. Smash Bros. too, but that probably won't be out till 2014...

Apart from an orchestral track at the end, everything's the same, though the quality is improved. Still a solid experience though.

Regardless, the 3DS' early lineup's honestly better than a lot of consoles. Expectations have just grown in recent years. Most any old console would be getting a lot of flak for a bad release lineup if they were released today. Most of us were too young to care back then. Plus, the 3DS' library is going to get good pretty fast. Plus all the nifty extras it has, etc etc

Plus, EU's FINALLY getting Tales of the Abyss :D

Letter from Iwata apologizing to current 3DS owners. Also confirms that Super Mario and Mario Kart are coming in November and December:
