And it's such a shame that NSMBW outsold SMG1 and 2 combined.
Eh? Why's that?
Because it's pretty much a bare minimum effort, whereas the SMG are very creative and innovative. You can tell a lot more effort went into making them.

Hey, at least one guy put some decent work into the level design! It was pretty decent in my opinion. NSMB for the DS had HORRIBLE level design, that one had no effort in it at all.

SMG is a break through for the Mario franchise, to me the game made an impact even greater than Super Mario 64 did. NSBM does nothing even close to this, using the retro SMB as a reference may seem like a good idea, but imo it was poorly executed with many flaws.

I loved everything about SMG, the only complaints I have is it's just too easy, but that's only because I've been toning my 3D Mario skills for several years. Getting really difficult stars isn't as hard as it used to be.

It's certainly a breakthrough for 3D Mario, but just because we have great 3D Mario doesn't mean we can't still have good 2D Mario. There's nothing wrong with having both, and we got both. 3D Platformers and 2D Platformers are really two different genres. Just because he was adapted into the 3D style doesn't mean he can't still have 2D games, just like he has Sports games, Cameo games, RPG games, Fighting Games, and just about any other type of game you could possibly imagine. I don't remember people criticizing Mario RPG games because they were nothing like Mario 64, yet the Mario RPGs are beloved as RPG games.

Really, in terms of 2D Platformers, NSMBW is not a bad game. It's not SMG2, but it never was intended to be. Saying that NSMBW shouldn't have been made (or was a bad idea to be made) is like saying we can't ever have any more 2D Metroid because of Metroid Prime.

I hated NSMB DS. NSMBW looked pretty good when I played it round a friends' though. However, I hate the music style... I don't really know why, but the music in those games just sound really unappealing to me. I don't like the sound of SM3DL's music, although the game looks sweet.

Anyway, yeah, it's really silly to rely on the sales of a remake, on a currently poorly selling system, with NO ONLINE no less. >_>

They are clearly Role Playing Game Games, duh.

@Raven, I've always thought Mario game music was hit or miss. Some is really good, and some is just crap, even in the same game. SMG has some great tunes, but it also has some I just plain hate. The same goes for just about any game.

Funny, it seems like Nintendo actually thinks that. The last 2D Metroids were Fusion in 2002 and Zero Mission in 2004, and ZM was a remake...

It was Metroid's 25th anniversary a few days ago... I wonder what they have planned for it? A re-release of Metroid Prime Trilogy would be nice... Fuck GameStop's $70 USED price.

To be fair, Metroid Fusion was released with Metroid Prime, and Metroid ZM was released at the same time as Metroid Prime 2. Only Metroid Prime 3 and Other M haven't been released with 2D games, and Other M is barely a legit Metroid game from what I've heard.

They haven't really been supporting Metroid at all, but that's not to say people don't still want another Prime or 2D game, because both are wanted by most fans. Other M wasn't even made by a company near Nintendo in the least, so it practically doesn't count as franchise support by Nintendo.

We don't talk about Other M.

Other M should be excluded from all mentions of Metroid ever again.

God I hate that game so much.
